Will Damian Lewis Replace Daniel Craig as James Bond? Bookies Slash Odds

5 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

London — Rumors that Damian Lewis could become the next James Bond have forced U.K. bookmakers to slash their odds on him taking the role. Meanwhile, 007 production company Eon Productions has released behind-the-scenes footage of the opening sequence of the latest Bond film, “Spectre.”

Odds on the former “Homeland” star stepping into Daniel Craig’s shoes have tightened from 25/1 to 3/1, according to Britain’s biggest bookmaker William Hill. The bookie’s favorite remains former “The Wire” and “Luther” star Idris Elba, who is 5/2. Other actors in the running include Tom Hardy (4/1), Henry Cavill (5/1), Michael Fassbender (7/1) and Orlando Bloom (12/1). The odds that “Spectre” will be Craig’s last appearance as Bond are 10/1.

“This is an unprecedented gamble, as for no apparent reason we have seen bets of up to £200 ($312) on Damian Lewis being named as the next Bond. This could well be significant and might herald the end of Daniel Craig »

Maleficent 2 Is Happening

4 hours ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Deadline reports that Disney's sequel to 2014's Maleficent is starting to take shape. Linda Woolverton will return to write the script, while Angelina Jolie has reportedly been kept "in the loop" to reprise her role of the fairy turned villain turned awesome foster mom. No word yet on whether or not Elle Fanning will also be brought back onboard, but we'd totally watch a spinoff of a spinoff with just Angelina and her raven (played in the first film by Sam Riley) meddling in other people's business. Maybe it'll end up on Netflix, too. »

Helen Mirren Thinks Ageism Against Women in Hollywood Is ‘F*cking Outrageous’

Earlier this year, Russell Crowe had the gall (ignorance?) to suggest that actresses like Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren would "give you 10,000 examples and arguments as to why [complaints of ageism are] bullshit." Nope! Upon hearing that Maggie Gyllenhaal was told that she was "too old" to play the love interest for a 55-year-old man, Dame Helen responded succinctly and appropriately: "It's fucking outrageous." She told The Wrap: "It’s ridiculous. And ’twas ever thus. We all watched James Bond as he got more and more geriatric, and his girlfriends got younger and younger. It’s so annoying.” Now, if you'd like to hear those words spoken in Helen Mirren's lovely accent, there's a video clip: »
