We'd expect image quality from Canon's EOS Rebel T6s and T6i (760D and 750D) to be very similar, and so far the 24.2MP APS-C DSLRs haven't surprised us in our studio tests. The real differences between these two models is in the user experience, as the T6s provides advanced touches like a top-panel LCD and rear quick control dial for easier access to exposure settings. Leica has updated users of Apple's Photos and Aperture software regarding crashing issues when DNG files from its new Leica Monochrom (typ 246) are opened. The company says that the photo libraries of these applications will not be damaged by these crashes, and that Apple is working on an update that will resolve the issue. Read more
DxOMark Mobile has published their report on the HTC One M9, HTC's latest top-end smartphone. The new model is a touch smaller and thinner than its predecessor, the One M8, but under the hood HTC upgrades the 4MP "ultrapixel" 1/3" BSI sensor of the predecessor to a larger, higher resolution 20MP 1/2.3" BSI CMOS sensor. The F2.2 lens provides no optical image stabilization, but the M9 is the first One model capable of recording 4K video. Read our report on DxOMark's findings

At 50X, the Fujifilm FinePix S1 may not have the longest lens in its class, but it is the only superzoom that's weather-sealed and one of the very few with Raw support. US luxury camera bag brand Ona has announced a new black version of its Berlin ll messenger-style bag. Designed especially for the Leica M system, the Berlin was originally a limited edition model created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Leica, but the Berlin ll went on general release beyond Leica stores. Previously only available in the Vintage Bourbon tan finish, the black version of the Berlin has been created, according to Ona, because so many people asked for it. Read more
Olympus USA has produced a spoof documentary that claims to highlight the problems faced by those who spend too long carrying heavy DSLR equipment. The hero of the films, Paul, suffers a condition called 'DSL-Arm,' which is characterized by a dramatic lengthening of the right arm as a result of carrying weighty camera bodies and lenses. Chinese manufacturer Oppo has today launched its new duo of flagship phones, the R7 and R7 Plus. The R7 features a 5" 1080p screen, while a 6" screen with the same resolution places the Plus model firmly into phablet territory. In the camera department both smartphones combine a 13MP sensor with an F2.2 lens but the R7 Plus chip is, like the Huawei P8, of the RGBW variant and supported by laser-AF and a dual-LED flash. Sigma UK has said that the company's latest compact camera from the Quattro line will cost £899.99 and will be available from the end of June. First announced at the CP+ show in February this year, the dp0 Quattro is the fourth of the unusually designed Quattro range and features a 14mm F4 lens. With the 23.5x15.7mm Foveon image sensor this focal length delivers a similar angle of view as a 21mm lens would on a full frame system. Read more
The Fujifilm XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR is a weather-sealed prime, equivalent to a 24mm field of view on Fujifiilm's X-mount cameras. With a close focus distance of just 0.15m/6in. and a fast F1.4 aperture, this lens is super versatile. In our sample testing we found it to be sharp, and to offer pleasing bokeh. Samsung has announced yet another firmware update for its flagship NX1 mirrorless camera. The company has been good about providing useful updates for the NX1, and firmware version 1.30 continues this trend. It includes numerous enhancements for still photos, video, and even Wi-Fi connectivity. Read more

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 improves on its predecessor the G6 with a newer sensor, 2.36 million-dot electronic viewfinder and improved autofocus - plus this year's must-have feature: 4K video. Panasonic has announced the Lumix DMC-G7, updating its mid-range mirrorless line with 4K (30p/24p) video and still recording and some slight spec upgrades across the board. It offers a built-in 2,360k-dot OLED viewfinder, fully articulated 3" 1,040k-dot LCD, improved autofocus speeds, 8 fps burst shooting (6 fps with continuous AF) as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. The Fujifilm X-T10 shares a similar relationship to the X-T1 that the OM-D E-M10 shares with its siblings - advanced features borrowed from a higher-spec model in a compact body. The X-T10 uses the X-T1's 16MP APS-C X-Trans sensor but offers slightly downgraded hardware and lacks weather-sealing. Fujifilm has formally announced the 90mm F2 R LM WR, a lens we saw in prototype at this year's CP+ show in Japan. It gives a 137mm equivalent view on Fuji's APS-C camera bodies, a popular focal length with portrait and event photographers. The lens uses 11 elements in 8 groups and offers a new Quad Linear Motor with four magnets for higher torque in autofocus. Read more

Entering photography competitions is a great way to maintain a level of drive and inspiration in your photography, as well as winning cash and photo-related equipment. We can all collect cameras and lenses, but when it comes to using them we sometimes run out of things to take pictures of. Last year, Microsoft introduced its hyperlapse algorithm for stabilizing camera footage into smooth timelapses. Despite the service's recent major update, Flickr doesn't yet offer a way for users to search content based on camera settings. Shutterdial, a website from photographer Tianhe Yang, fills that void by using the Flickr API to offer photo searches based on four criteria: subject, focal length, shutter speed and aperture. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology claim to have developed a method for eliminating reflections in glass via digital processing. It is hoped that with further development the idea could see its way into digital cameras, allowing reflections to be automatically removed when they interfere with the view through a window. Toronto-based Town 30 has launched the Emissary Series camera bag on Kickstarter, where it is seeking funding for production of the photography-centric bags. The Emissary is geared specifically to photographers' needs with attachable pockets, a removable laptop compartment, a locking mechanism inspired by film-advance levers and a lens cap mount. Lily Robotics has unveiled Lily Camera, a self-flying drone designed to autonomously track and record its owner. Once it's thrown into the air it begins automatically following its target, which is anyone in possession of the accompanying GPS tracking device. Its camera captures 1080/60p HD video and 12MP stills, and the device itself is waterproof to 1 meter underwater. Read more

The Nikon 300mm F4E PF ED VR is an extremely light-weight, compact telephoto lens well-suited for use on both FX and DX Nikon bodies. It is 30% shorter and 1.5 lbs / 0.68kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to the use of a Phase Fresnel design. An exhibition of photographs taken by Captain Linnaeus Tripe during a tour of India and Burma is on show in The Metropolitan Museum in New York, and will then move to London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. The collection of 60 images made on paper negatives display historic places, buildings, geology and the infrastructure of parts of the two countries, and were in some cases the first photographs ever to be taken of these sites. They've been on Olympus's roadmap for a while, but today the company officially announced two new wideangle 'Pro' lenses - the M.ZUIKO Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO and M.ZUIKO Digital ED 8mm Fisheye PRO. The 8mm fisheye is equivalent to a 16mm, while the 7-14mm covers an equivalent focal length range of 14-28mm. Both lenses are weather-sealed and are clearly intended for use with the company's high-end OM-D cameras. Click through for a closer look
Olympus has announced two additions to its Micro Four Thirds 'Pro' lens series, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm F2.8 and 8mm F1.8 Fisheye PRO. Both are weather and dust resistant and lighter than their competitors, according to the company, and both are slated to become available in June. Read more
Olympus has announced that it is is producing a new limited edition 'Titanium' OM-D E-M5 II camera. The Titanium E-M5 II will offer all of the same features and specs of the regular version, with its top and bottom plates swapped out for dark metallic versions that match those of the OM-3/Ti from 1994. Worldwide, 7,000 copies of the Titanium model will be made, though how many will be available in the US is yet to be announced. The company is also readying firmware updates for both the E-M1 and E-M5 II, related mostly to underwater shooting. Read more

New firmware has been announced for the Fujifilm X-T1 mirrorless camera that promises to overhaul autofocusing performance and 'introduces a new AF system' to this X-series flagship body. Firmware version 4.00 will be available in late June, and seems to take significant steps towards solving issues with moving subjects and focusing in low contrast conditions. Read more
Canon has announced its EF 50mm F1.8 STM lens, which uses a stepper motor for quieter and more responsive autofocus compared to its 'Mark II' predecessor. It also features a 7-blade circular aperture and minimum focus distance of 35cm - both improvements over the Mark II. The lens is just 39mm long and weighs 160g, has a metal mount, and supports an optional integrated hood. Read more

Sheila Murphy took family and vacation photos for most of her life, but didn't consider herself a photographer until her daughter got her interested in black-and-white film photography. She now pursues personal projects and occasional commercial work, and cites a love of the outdoors as the starting point for much of her photography. Getty Images has announced a new grant offered in collaboration with Instagram. There are a total of three grants available, each for $10,000 USD, and will be awarded to photographers using Instagram to document underrepresented communities. Recipients will also be given a mentorship opportunity with Getty Images' photographers. Read more
Sigma's 19mm F2.8 DN, 30mm F2.8 DN and 60mm F2.8 DN Art lenses were launched at the CP+ show in Yokohama way back in January 2013. We've been using these inexpensive primes on both Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds cameras for a while now, and our man in London, Damien Demolder has written up his impressions. Pricing and availability for Tokina's AT-X 24-70mm F2.8 Pro FX lens has appeared on the company's website. Announced at CP+ earlier this year, the lens will be released in a Nikon mount in June and then for Canon in July. Retail price is listed at ¥150,000 before tax, which is around $1250 US (final US pricing is not yet confirmed). Read more
Canon USA has released a product advisory regarding the sensor defects on its Rebel T6i/T6s (750D/760D) that we reported on last week. The company states that on certain cameras 'white spots may exist on the optical layer which may result in the appearance of dark circular patterns on the captured image under certain shooting conditions'. These cameras will be repaired free of charge and models that have already been repaired will have a marking inside the battery door. Read more
Image sharing service Flickr has released a major update to its mobile app for iOS devices. In the new design images are displayed in a similar way to Apple's own Photos app, with images grouped by capture date. The new version of the app also emphasizes the auto upload feature, trying to convert Flickr from an image-based social network into everybody's go-to photo app. Read more

Updated The Lee Filters SW150 Mk ll filter holder system for especially wideangle lenses is now shipping, and Lee has announced pricing for the holder, the adapter rings and the filters. The system is designed to allow filters to be held in front of the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED wideangle zoom without vignetting and uses a light seal to prevent reflections on the filter's rear surface. Phottix, a lighting equipment maker, is reporting an issue where its Odin TTL triggers may not work properly with the Nikon D750. According to a recent blog post the company claims that the D750's hot shoe design differs slightly from that of other Nikon DSLRs, which causes the pins of the Odin trigger to line up incorrectly. ZTE, one of the big Chinese device manufacturers, has launched its new flagship phone, the Nubia Z9. On paper the new model looks like quite a high-end device and that's especially true for the camera. The 16MP Sony CMOS sensor appears to be the same as in the recently announced LG G4, and is combined with an F2.0 lens and optical image stabilization. Read more
While plenty of DSLRs also have a built-in flash, the feature has been out of favor with mirrorless manufacturers, prioritizing miniaturization. This is where the Metz mecablitz 26 AF-1 digital steps in. Small compared to standard hotshoe flash units, it's still a good deal larger than those that come in the box with most mirrorless cameras. When the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were launched earlier this year there was no talk of the ISOCELL technology previously used by the Galaxy S5's and Note 4's in-house image sensors, so it was believed the 16MP 1/2.6 CMOS chip in the S6 was provided by Sony. However, rumors have emerged that in some units Samsung sensors are used instead of the Sony variant, and a company spokesperson has confirmed that different sensors are used. Read more
Canon's flagship superzoom is its PowerShot SX60 HS, which sports a 21-1365mm equivalent lens - not quite Coolpix P900 territory but still very impressive. It also features a fully articulating LCD, Wi-Fi with NFC, and 1080/60p video.
