The Buzz: Paranoiacs of the West Coast, here's one way to face your greatest fears. Other than the inevitable disaster movie-induced panic, what looms large? This big, burning question: How many Americans can Dwayne Johnson actually save? We'll soon find out. All I know is that if you're not chanting "Rock! Rock! Rock!" by the end of the white-knuckle ride that is the "San Andreas" trailer, something is definitely wrong with you. - Chako Suzuki

Certificate PG-13 Comedy | Drama | Romance

A celebrated military contractor returns to the site of his greatest career triumphs and re-connects with a long-ago love while unexpectedly falling for the hard-charging Air Force watchdog assigned to him.

The Buzz: I must admit, after watching this trailer I had no idea what it's about. Not a clue. I'm hoping it's the case of a story that is so unique it's hard to capture what it's about in a trailer. So why am I still excited to see it? Quite simply, I believe in Cameron Crowe and I can't imagine this stellar cast would sign on to a film unless it had an engaging story. Maybe I'll regret it later, but I will be checking out the film. -- Michelle Nelson

The Buzz: I have a fair amount of goodwill and curiosity heading into seeing Andrew Bujalski' first movie with a mainstream actor; after exiting the theater, I couldn't quite put my thoughts into words. Fortunately, an old friend put it so succinctly..

Certificate R   -   Comedy | Drama | Romance

Martin, an ex-Parisian well-heeled hipster passionate about Gustave Flaubert who settled into a Norman village as a baker, sees an English couple moving into a small farm nearby. Not only are the names of the new arrivals Gemma and Charles Bovery, but their behavior also seems to be inspired by Flaubert's heroes.

The Buzz: As a straight take on Far from the Madding Crowd notches itself in the top 12 at the U.S. box office, here comes a complete reinterpretation of Madame Bovary that is set in modern-day Normandy. Anne Fontaine's follow-up to Adore spent the better part of the last year on the festival circuit and one of its wonderful sounding twists puts the great Fabrice Luchini in a lead role as he watches the life of Gemma Arterton's titular character begin to mimic the narrative of of Gustave Flaubert's novel. Nice to see Niels Schneider -- one of Xavier Dolan's favorites -- in a steamy supporting role here.

Certificate R   -   Drama

Harley loves Ilya. He gives her life purpose and sets her passion ablaze. So, when he asks her to prove her love by slitting her wrists, she obliges with only mild hesitation, perhaps because of her other all-consuming love: heroin.

The Buzz: Arielle Holmes makes her film debut in this buzzy festival-y let's-shoot-smack-in-Manhattan drama from co-directors Ben and Joshua Safdie (who spotted Holmes as she was heading into the subway and was transfixed by her). What's more? The hellish-sounding narrative was adapted from Holmes' actual life.
