David Letterman’s farewell show may have drawn the largest Late Show audience in 21 years, but even those numbers couldn’t stop time. On Thursday, a demoltion crew took apart Letterman’s iconic set at New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater, throwing many of the items into a dumpster.

And so it finally happened: the man who despite of—or perhaps because of—his own depressive nature and personal demons united millions of people through his small screen antics has departed from TV.

But, seriously, that’s enough about Don Draper. How was David Letterman’s last show?

CBS announced Thursday that it will air David Letterman: A Life on Television in primetime, a little over two weeks before Letterman signs off from The Late Show for good. The 90-minute retrospective, set for May 4, will be hosted by Ray Romano.

Stephen Colbert will make his CBS debut this fall.

CBS announced Monday that the Late Show with Stephen Colbert will premiere Tuesday, Sept. 8. “I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby,” Colbert said. “So first, I should find out how you make a baby.”

Back in the days before YouTube, a Marv Albert appearance on David Letterman’s show was bound to feature a few hilarious sports videos you’d never seen before. Dubbed the Albert Achievement Awards, his periodic collection of sports bloopers and blunders was a must-see Hall of Infamy.

On Friday night, Darlene Love brought her tradition of singing “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on David Letterman’s show to an end—in spectacular fashion. Members of the band were outfitted in white jackets; the men wearing black bow ties, while Love donned a sparkling red gown. She concluded the number standing on top of Paul Shaffer’s piano as (fake) snow fell.
