CBS's 'Supergirl' Gets Greenlit, Will Likely Become Fall's Only Female-Centric Superhero Show

7 May 2015 11:08 AM, PDT | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

"Supergirl" is zooming toward the small screen as we speak.  Focused on 24-year-old Kara Danvers/Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Aka Superman's cousin, the CBS series is the first drama to be confirmed by the network for the 2015-16 season. Its early pick-up suggests a fall premiere date, and with ABC's "Agent Carter" still on the bubble, "Supergirl" will likely become fall's only female-centric superhero show.  Starring alongside Benoist will be Calista Flockhart as Kara's boss Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks as love interest Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Kara's sister Alex Danvers and Laura Benanti as Kara's mother.  Helen Slater, the actress who played Supergirl in the 1984 film, will also make an appearance on the show.  [via Variety]

'Supergirl' Gets Series Order at CBS

6 May 2015 3:52 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

With all of the major TV networks getting ready to unveil their 2015-2016 schedule at the upfront presentations next week, CBS has issued an early series order for Supergirl. The network's deal between Warner Bros. TV and executive producer Greg Berlanti included an early deadline for the network to make a decision on the pilot, a perk only reserved for the most prolific producers, such as Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory). This show will be the third DC Comics property that Greg Berlanti has brought to the small screen, following Arrow and The Flash.

Melissa Benoist stars as Kara Zor-El, who escaped from her home planet of Krypton at a young age and has been hiding in plain sight on Earth ever since, refusing to showcase her incredible powers. At the age of 24, Kara decides to embrace her abilities and become the hero she was always destined to be. »

Supergirl lands full series order at CBS

6 May 2015 3:31 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s… super good news! Ahead of the upfronts next week, CBS has officially granted a full series order to Supergirl.

The series – developed by Arrow and The Flash producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg along with Chuck alum Ali Adler – was given a series commitment last fall, and has picked up quite a bit of buzz ever since. Where it will wind up on CBS’ schedule hasn’t been announced, and likely won’t be until the aforementioned upfronts next week, when the network unveils all of its plans for the upcoming fall television season.

Despite sharing a creative team with the CW DC shows, Supergirl is expected to stand independently from The Flash and Arrow - though I guess crossovers are never out of the question in today’s superhero-driven climate. The show stars Glee‘s Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, »

The show stars Glee alum Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, who escaped Krypton’s destruction and has been in hiding on Earth and keeping her powers a secret ever since. The series will pick up when Kara is 24 years old and ready to “embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.” Her famous cousin, Superman, is expected to show up in a small capacity, but the Supergirl will mainly focus on Kara’s solo adventures and coming-of-age journey into heroism.
