'Pitch Perfect 2': A mess where heat was applied to it

Kendrick hit her notes. The music was groovy, but “Pitch Perfect 2” won’t make you feel happy like an old-time movie because the direction hit somewhere between amateurish and hand-me-a-drink awful, with insidious gags and hurtful tropes suffocating the cast.
