Getty Images has announced a new grant offered in collaboration with Instagram. There are a total of three grants available, each for $10,000 USD, and will be awarded to photographers using Instagram to document underrepresented communities. Sigma's 19mm F2.8 DN, 30mm F2.8 DN and 60mm F2.8 DN Art lenses were launched at the CP+ show in Yokohama way back in January 2013. We've been using these inexpensive primes on both Sony E-mount and Micro Four Thirds cameras for a while now, and our man in London, Damien Demolder has written up his impressions. Pricing and availability for Tokina's AT-X 24-70mm F2.8 Pro FX lens has appeared on the company's website. Announced at CP+ earlier this year, the lens will be released in a Nikon mount in June and then for Canon in July. Retail price is listed at ¥150,000 before tax, which is around $1250 US (final US pricing is not yet confirmed). Read more
Canon USA has released a product advisory regarding the sensor defects on its Rebel T6i/T6s (750D/760D) that we reported on last week. The company states that on certain cameras 'white spots may exist on the optical layer which may result in the appearance of dark circular patterns on the captured image under certain shooting conditions'. These cameras will be repaired free of charge and models that have already been repaired will have a marking inside the battery door. Read more
Image sharing service Flickr has released a major update to its mobile app for iOS devices. In the new design images are displayed in a similar way to Apple's own Photos app, with images grouped by capture date. The new version of the app also emphasizes the auto upload feature, trying to convert Flickr from an image-based social network into everybody's go-to photo app. Read more

The Lee Filters SW150 Mk ll filter holder system for especially wideangle lenses is now shipping, and Lee has announced pricing for the holder, the adapter rings and the filters. The system is designed to allow filters to be held in front of the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8G ED wideangle zoom without vignetting and uses a light seal to prevent reflections on the filter's rear surface. Phottix, a lighting equipment maker, is reporting an issue where its Odin TTL triggers may not work properly with the Nikon D750. According to a recent blog post the company claims that the D750's hot shoe design differs slightly from that of other Nikon DSLRs, which causes the pins of the Odin trigger to line up incorrectly. ZTE, one of the big Chinese device manufacturers, has launched its new flagship phone, the Nubia Z9. On paper the new model looks like quite a high-end device and that's especially true for the camera. The 16MP Sony CMOS sensor appears to be the same as in the recently announced LG G4, and is combined with an F2.0 lens and optical image stabilization. Read more
While plenty of DSLRs also have a built-in flash, the feature has been out of favor with mirrorless manufacturers, prioritizing miniaturization. This is where the Metz mecablitz 26 AF-1 digital steps in. Small compared to standard hotshoe flash units, it's still a good deal larger than those that come in the box with most mirrorless cameras. When the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were launched earlier this year there was no talk of the ISOCELL technology previously used by the Galaxy S5's and Note 4's in-house image sensors, so it was believed the 16MP 1/2.6 CMOS chip in the S6 was provided by Sony. However, rumors have emerged that in some units Samsung sensors are used instead of the Sony variant, and a company spokesperson has confirmed that different sensors are used. Read more
Canon's flagship superzoom is its PowerShot SX60 HS, which sports a 21-1365mm equivalent lens - not quite Coolpix P900 territory but still very impressive. It also features a fully articulating LCD, Wi-Fi with NFC, and 1080/60p video. Nikon's Coolpix P900 offers a 16MP sensor and a mind-blowing F2.8-6.5 24-2000mm equivalent zoom. It features built-in Wi-Fi with NFC, 7 fps burst shooting, built-in EVF and a fully articulated LCD. Westcott has announced the second incarnation of its Ice Light LED lighting wand. Ice Light 2 promises to be 50% brighter than the previous model and comes equipped with Bluetooth for remote control and an interchangeable, rechargeable lithium ion battery. The light has a color temperature of 5500K, Color Rendering Index of 96 and a beam angle of 72.6 degrees. Read more
CyPhy Works, a company helmed by iRobot co-founder Helen Greiner, has introduced a camera drone with a few unique features. Called the CyPhy LVL 1, its six-rotor design promotes better stability over common quadcopters and its camera is integrated into the body of the drone. Read more
Voigtländer is one of the oldest names in photography, with a long history of making cameras and lenses. Recently, the company has turned its focus from affordable M-mount lenses to lenses with digital cameras in mind. Apple has extended system-wide Raw support for 14 additional cameras, including Canon's newest flagship DSLRs. Digital Camera Raw 6.04 also brings Raw support to OS X Yosemite for the Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1 smartphone, Nikon D7200 and Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II among others. Read more

Lomography has introduced the LC-A Minitar-1 f/2.8 32mm to its 'Art' line of lenses. Like that of the original Lomo LC-A 35mm camera (and more recent LC-A+) the lens features a pancake design and Russian optics, aiming to preserve the 'unique character of its vintage' origins. The lens will be sold in a Leica M-mount, and is available for pre-order. Read more
LensRentals received its first Canon EOS Rebel T6s/760D and T6i/750D units and has identified a sensor problem with a number of those cameras. Out of about 20 units (around 10 of each model), 4 T6s and 2 T6i units contained sensors with noticeable defects in their sensor stacks. These layers of glass on top of the sensor contain a pattern of dust-like spots or particles that are visible when studied under angled light. Read more

Leica has introduced an updated version of its black-and-white-only digital rangefinder. The M-Monochrom Typ 246 uses a full frame 24MP CMOS sensor that, like its predecessor, has no color filter array. The model that came before it used an 18MP CCD sensor, so the upgrade to a CMOS chip provides several improvements such as live view and video recording capabilities. Read more
Entries are now being accepted for the Epson International Pano Awards competition that celebrates and rewards outstanding panoramic photography. In its sixth year, the contest which is sponsored by Epson Australia, has a prize fund of $50,000, including a single prize of $5,000 for the Jeff Mitchum Fine Art category. Read more

LG's new flasgship smartphone, the LG G4, takes over some of the G3's design details, but from a hardware point of view it's an all-around new device. Specifically, it puts a lot of emphasis on camera specifications. Its 16MP 1/2.6-inch CMOS sensor is larger than the 1/3-inch sensors in many other phones, and the F1.8 aperture is the fastest among the current crop of high-end mobile devices. Read more
Ansix Engineering has taken to Kickstarter with its LensPacks, a rear lens cap backed with Velcro that can be attached to the inside of a camera bag. It's designed to speed up lens changes - when a lens swap is necessary, the photographer can twist the current lens into the fixed lens cap, then twist a different lens off of another cap. Read more
US bag manufacturer MindShift Gear has introduced a new range of bags and pouches aimed at the GoPro and action cam market. The GP series is made up of 10 individual cases that can be purchased individually or in three bundles of differing sizes. Read more
GoPro has announced its acquisition of Kolor, makers of stitching software used for spherical 360-degree videos and panoramas. Demonstrating exactly what we can expect when the two companies combine forces, the above 360-degree video has been released today, recorded with three GoPro Heros and stitched together with Kolor software. American photographer John Moore has won the L'Iris d'Or Photographer of the Year prize in the World Photography Organization's annual competition. The Getty Images photographer submitted a dramatic and emotional series of pictures telling the story of the Ebola crisis in Liberia's capital Monrovia – a series that was credited with being the first to expose the scale of the problem that country faced and the severity of the epidemic. Sony has released a beta version of its Touchless Shutter app, immediately available for download through the PlayMemories app store. The app makes use of the eyepiece sensor as a shutter release mechanism and brings all the advantages of a traditional cable release without needing any extra camera gear. All that is needed is a hand wave near the eyepiece and the shutter will release. Read more

Panasonic's Lumix CM1 has the potential to break new ground in the territory between smartphones and cameras. It offers a 1-inch 20MP sensor, much larger than the typical smartphone camera chip. It also provides an F2.8 Leica-branded lens encircled by a control ring that can be used to adjust various exposure settings. We got out and about with it to see what its images look like. Italian accessories brand Manfrotto has announced a new model in the 190 range of tripods that is lighter and more compact than others in the series. The Manfrotto 190Go! is designed for traveling photographers and those working on location who require an eye-height tripod that packs away to take up as little space as possible. Read more

Who doesn't love free stuff? Visual Supply Co has been churning out Photoshop and Lightroom-compatible film presets for some time now. To date, they've released seven different 'Film Packs' each containing presets that mimic both classic and contemporary film stocks. Now, they're offering one for free. Read more
China-based manufacturer Yongnuo has produced what looks like a near-clone of Canon's well-liked EF 35mm f/2, a lens that dates back to 1990. With a couple of minor exceptions (one of which being the brand name on the front of the lens) the Yongnuo lens looks very similar to Canon's 25-year-old prime, but at an attractive price of ~$115. Olympus and Pentax have introduced cameras with sensor-shift-driven resolution modes designed to maximize the amount of information collected by their sensors. Apple has also patented a similar system, using an optical image stabilization system to create and combine multiple exposures into a higher resolution image. Read more
As promised last November, Sony has announced two new full-frame A-mount lenses. Compared to their 2008-vintage predecessors the Vario-Sonnar T* 16-35mm F2.8 ZA SSM II and 24-70mm F2.8 ZA SSM II feature improved image quality, less ghosting and flare, and a four-fold improvement in subject tracking speed, according to Sony. Another addition are seals that should make these lenses dust and water resistant. More details

The Pentax K-3 II is a modest update to its predecessor, but that doesn't mean that its new features are insignificant. While faster autofocus and more shake reduction is great, we're most excited about the Pixel Shift Resolution feature. Ricoh has just launched the Pentax K-3 II semi-pro DSLR with an improved image stabilization system that drives a new Pixel Shift Resolution feature. Retaining its predecessor's 24MP sensor, 27-point AF system, and durable construction, the K-3 II now offers sensor-shift IS with a claimed 4.5 stops of shake reduction. Read more
Chinese lens adapter manufacturer Kipon has announced plans to introduce the first adapter that allows AF operation when a Canon EF or EF-S lens is attached to a Micro Four Thirds camera body. Previous adapters have either been entirely manual or, more lately, offered aperture control, but the Shanghai-based company has said that its next model will allow full frame and APS-C EOS system lenses to focus automatically too. Sigma has issued a service notice advising that some of its Canon mount interchangeable lenses cannot be used with Live Mode on the Canon EOS Rebel T6s (760D) and the Canon EOS Rebel T6i (750D). Lens owners will receive a free firmware update to fix the problem, though the company has not provided a timeframe for when the update is expected. Both current and discontinued lens models are affected by this issue. Read more
With the launch of Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC, Adobe has released Camera Raw 9 with some of the some added features. Merge to HDR and Panorama are now available in ACR, using Raw image data to automatically assemble HDR and panoramic images, which are output as DNG files. This eliminates the need to edit files before merging them in Photoshop. Read more
