If you're a fan of Stuart Gordon's films and/or modern indie horror, Barbara Crampton needs no real introduction. The actress continues to pair with talented filmmakers on incredible indie horror movies and she's at the Stanley Film Festival in support of multiple projects. Ahead of Stuart Gordon receiving this year's Master of Horror award during the festival, I caught up with Barbara Crampton to talk about Re-Animator, Sun Choke, and her role as a producer on Beyond the Gates:

You're here at the Stanley Film Festival for multiple films, including a screening of Re-Animator, which includes a Master of Horror award being given to Stuart Gordon.

Drive-In Dust Offs: The Devil’s Rain

“Corbis! God Damn You!!!” Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. The above quote is from none other than the mighty William Shatner, and I’m emphasizing it to let everyone know what amazing and fantastical delights await those who enter…The Devil’s Rain. Released in 1975, to little fanfare, The Devil’s Rain sits smack dab in the middle of a decade long wave of satanic cinema. From Rosemary’s Baby (1968) to Damien Omen II (1978), the market was flooded with horror films dedicated to the Behooved One. It’s a shame that audiences and critics alike didn’t want to play in this rain, as this is a devilish delight.

Mark Preston (Shatner) and his family have been hiding Satan’s Guest Book from Jonathan Corbis (a creepily effective Ernest Borgnine) , Satan’s earthly salesman, for centuries. Without the book, all of Corbis’ converts cannot »

Exclusive: Elijah Wood, Leigh Whannell, and Alison Pill Talk Cooties

1 May 2015 4:41 PM, PDT

Last night, Cooties opened the 2015 Stanley Film Festival and was definitely a crowd-pleaser. The horror / comedy finds a group of teachers fighting for their life when a virus turns their students into ravenous zombies. I'll post my full impressions soon, but I think our readers will really be into this and caught up with Elijah Wood, Leigh Whannell, and Alison Pill to hear about how they got involved with this movie.

Killing children in movies can be a very taboo subject. Not only were you able to center your movie around it, but you were able to really balance the horror and comedy. What can you tell me about the origins of this idea and how difficult was it to get the right tone for this movie?

Elijah Wood: This started as an internal idea. My producing partner Josh Waller came to myself and my other producing partner, Daniel Noah. »

New Look at Rob Zombie’s Halloween-Set Horror Film ‘31’

1 May 2015 9:52 AM, PDT

With Rob Zombie's upcoming film 31 taking place in a setting known as "Murder World", you can expect to find plenty of malevolent monsters (of the human variety) around every corner, as evidenced in the latest still from the film, which shows someone who looks like they came from Dr. Frankenstein's lab.

Revealed by Bloody Disgusting, the new still from Rob Zombie's 31 features a very memorable member of the Murder World proceedings. Though the official cast member and character in the still haven't been announced, there are physical similarities between this character and Richard Brake's Doom-Head, who was revealed in a shadow-shrouded still in March, so they very well could be one and the same.

Zombie's 31 was recently acquired for North American distribution by Alchemy. No release date has been revealed at this time, but stay tuned to Daily Dead for further updates on Zombie's latest film. »

Remake of Cube (1997) Moving Forward at Lionsgate

1 May 2015 8:25 AM, PDT

It contained 17,576 rooms filled with life-ending obstacles. The titular object in Vincenzo Natali's 1997 thriller, Cube, foreshadowed the psychological and physical torment of the Saw traps to come. If you were unlucky enough to wake up inside it, you were going to have one hell of a time trying to get out. Lionsgate, however, is willingly returning to the cube's confines. The studio is moving forward on a remake of the original film, with a director, writer, and pair of producers already in place.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saman Kesh is lined up for the director's chair on the Cube remake, which is titled Cubed. Kesh, who helmed the impressive sci-fi short, Controller, will work from a screenplay by Philip Gawthorne (based on a story angle by Kesh). Roy Lee and Jon Spaihts are producing the project, with Vertigo's Adam Stone overseeing it.

30 April 2015 8:13 PM, PDT

Fans of the Insidious films have likely never listened to "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" quite the same way since following Josh Lambert into the fire-face demon's lair and hearing the classic song bouncing off the walls. The video tells a story all its own, and it debuted today on Totally Sketch.

The "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" music video was directed by Michael Gallagher and comes from Cinemand, which was founded by Gallagher (”Smiley”), Jana Winternitz (”urFRENZ”), and Michael Wormser (”Smiley”).

Dead Island 2 Debut Delayed, Pushed to 2016

30 April 2015 8:50 AM, PDT

Gamers itching for another living dead slaughter in the sand are going to have to wait until next year. Deep Silver announced that they have pushed back the release of Dead Island 2 from this spring to 2016.

Deep Silver made the announcement via Twitter:

"We have always set ourselves a big goal for Dead Island 2: to create the sequel that takes Dead Island to the next level. A game that takes what our fans tell us they love about Dead Island – multiple different characters to play with, co-op, and turning a paradise setting into a zombie slaughter melee – and a game that adds a ton more content and combat options on top of that.

And we wanted to have all of that that done for release in Spring 2015.

We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. »
