Grant Cerny
Chief Product Officer
Grant Cerny is responsible for the product strategy and development of services for over 60 individual publishing brands including iOne’s national and local brands, as well as third party iOne Studios partners. In this role, he has delivered BlackPlanet Radio, iOne and Radio One’s national, customized streaming offering that brings the best of their local and national DJ/radio programming voices to a free and unlimited personalized radio experience. Prior to Interactive One, Mr. Cerny served in executive product leadership positions across major media, digital music, technology and social marketing services. His stints included SVP of Product Marketing for KickApps, a social media publishing services company with clients including Scripps, Hearts, and BlackAmericaWeb. He spent 6 years prior at AOL as VP of Entertainment, Lifestyle & Real-Time Products, where he directed all interactive product strategy, management and marketing for AOL’s various platform experiences, including AOL Music Network, Winamp, AOL Video, Moviefone, and AOL Television. Prior to AOL, Mr. Cerny led interactive product teams at various major tech companies including Hewlett-Packard (HP). Mr. Cerny hold a bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College, and masters and doctoral degrees from the University of Oxford.
Smokey Fontaine
Chief Content Officer
Named after the Motown legend, Smokey D. Fontaine leads all digital content and editorial efforts at Interactive One. In this role, Mr. Fonatine oversees the largest online African American network comprised of the third largest online social network (BlackPlanet, MiGente) and five distinct sites (TheUrbanDaily.com, HelloBeautiful.com, NewsOne.com, Elev8.com, and GIANTmag.com) that super serve African Americans. His mandate—to engage and empower the full and diverse range of urban communities—is at once a programming, technology and brand-building achievement throughout Interactive One’s sites and across parent company Radio One’s radio, TV, and print mediums. Prior to joining Interactive One in 2007, Mr. Fontaine held various senior programming positions, including Editor-in-Chief of GIANT magazine; Senior Producer of Entertainment for Volume.com, the $35 million Internet portal sponsored by HBO; U.S. Editor of fashion and music magazine Trace; and Music Editor of The Source. He has authored two books which include What’s Your HI-FI Q? (Simon & Schuster/Fireside) with partner Scott Poulson-Bryant and EARL: The Autobiography of DMX (Harper Collins Entertainment). Mr. Fontaine is also a featured music correspondent for the BBC and Channel 4 networks in England, and is a repeat guest on CNN, The Today Show, FOX News, VH-1, The Wendy Williams Experience and The Tom Joyner Morning Show. He graduated from Wesleyan University.
Gillian Kellie
Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer of Interactive One LLC, Gillian Kellie is responsible for directing and managing all finance and administrative functions across the company. She joined Interactive One in October 2007, upon which she conducted the financial modeling and due diligence for the strategic corporate acquisition of Community Connect, which owned BlackPlanet.com, MiGente.com, and AsianAve.com. Following, Ms. Kellie oversaw the integration process for Finance, HR, IT and Facilities that merged and consolidated staff, systems, facilities and operations for the new company. She continues to lead and manage these functions while continuously ensuring company-wide efficiencies. Before joining Interactive One, Ms. Kellie spent 7 years with Warner Music Group (WMG), in a number of divisional CFO roles, including London-Sire Records, WEA Distribution and WMG Corporate Services. Prior to WMG, she held senior financial positions in PolyGram, EMI Records Group N.A. and Sony. Ms. Kellie started her career in public accounting at Ernst & Young, with stints in both the U.K. and the U.S. She holds a B.S. in Social Sciences from Bristol University, England and is a Chartered Accountant.
Alfred C. Liggins III
Chief Executive Officer, Interactive One LLC, Chief Executive Officer and President of Radio One, Inc. and the Chairman of TV One, LLC.
Alfred Liggins is responsible for the overall management and operating performance of Interactive One, which includes pursuing new business ventures, identifying acquisitions, managing an integrated business plan and attracting key talent. Mr. Liggins is also the founder and CEO of Radio One, Inc., the parent company of Interactive One and the largest multi-media company that primarily targets African-Americans. In his role as Chief Executive Officer and President of Radio One, Mr. Liggins has led the Company’s transformation into a diversified multi-media platform that owns the following assets: 53 radio stations located in 16 urban markets in the United States, leading African American digital platform Interactive One, interests in cable/satellite network TV One, and Reach Media, Inc, owner of the Tom Joyner Morning Show. Mr. Liggins attended the University of California in Los Angeles and the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D.C. He received his MBA in May 1995 from the Wharton School of The University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Liggins serves on the Board of Directors for Radio One, Inc., TV One, LLC, Reach Media, Inc., Ibiquity Digital Corporation and the Apollo Theatre.
Tom Newman
President
Tom Newman joined Interactive One as President in May 2007, where he is responsible for leading and managing the company’s businesses, including the suite of online brands targeting the African American market. Prior to Interactive One, Mr. Newman spent close to 7 years at Time Warner serving in various capacities. Prior to departing Time Warner, he served as the Senior Vice President of Network Development, focusing on strategy and corporate development for AOL. He reported to the President of Media Networks, AOL’s advertising and e-commerce division. He worked on a variety of initiatives including the acquisition and integration of Advertising.com, the development of new advertising products and businesses, and key transactions including the multi-billion dollar Google strategic relationship. His previous role was in Time Warner’s Mergers and Acquisitions group, where he worked on a variety of domestic and cross-border media transactions. Mr. Newman graduated from Harvard College magna cum laude with a degree in classics and earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School. He is involved in several not-for-profit organizations, including serving as a Board Member and Treasurer for Asphalt Green, one of the largest community and sports centers in New York, providing services to thousands of inner city children each year.
Detavio Samuels
President, One Solution
Detavio is the President of One Solution, the full-service agency inside of the media company. In addition to the agency, Detavio oversees ad sales marketing and is responsible for company innovation, where his teams develop new franchises, media products and solutions for brands. Samuels joined One Solution from GlobalHue-Detroit, the nation’s leading multicultural agency. Previously, Samuels worked in global marketing at Ethicon, one of Johnson & Johnson’s largest medical device companies. In addition, Samuels authored the Amazon Best-Seller, Exist No More: The Art Of Squeezing The Most Out Of Life.
Samuels is a graduate of Stanford University, where he received his MBA and MA-Education, and Duke University where he received his Bachelors Degree.
Dan Shelley
Senior Vice President, Interactive One Local
Dan Shelley is responsible for strategy, revenue, and programming for more than 50 websites representing Radio One’s various radio stations around the country, as well as radio shows syndicated by Radio One such as The Russ Parr Morning Show, The Rickey Smiley Morning Show, The Yolanda Adams Morning Show and CoCo Brother Live. Additionally, he leads Radio One’s mobile platforms, its personalized Internet streaming experience, BlackPlanet Radio, and develops other digital businesses for Radio One’s radio division. Prior to joining Radio One in 2009, Dan was Director of Digital Media at WCBS-TV in New York City, where he transformed wcbstv.com from fifth place to first place in traffic and revenue among the five local broadcast television news websites in the nation’s largest media market. Dan’s career also includes 26 years of programming management experience in small and medium market radio stations. He was news director and assistant program director at WTMJ-AM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s highest rated station. Before Milwaukee, Dan was news director at KTTS-AM/FM in his hometown of Springfield, Mo. Dan is a former chairman of the Radio-Television Digital News Association and the Radio and Television Digital News Foundation. He continues to serve on the boards of both organizations. Dan is a graduate of Missouri State University.
Maria Weaver
Senior Vice President, Sales
Maria Weaver Watson is Senior Vice President, Sales, leading all marketing, public relations, the company’s pro-social initiatives and diversity partnerships. In this role, Ms. Weaver Watson is responsible for consumer, trade and sales marketing, leveraging online, mobile, video and offline to develop innovative client solutions for the leading online platform targeting the African American community. Prior to joining Interactive One, Ms. Weaver Watson was one of the co-founders of Triple Threat Films, which financed and produced films such as, Dirty Laundry and Through The Fire: The Sebastian Telfair Story. Prior to her film endeavors, Ms. Weaver Watson was Director of Brand Development and Subscriber Marketing at HBO, where she developed and managed the implementation of marketing strategies targeting African American, Latino, 18-24, and LGBT audiences, as well as acquisition marketing for Direct TV. Before joining HBO, Ms. Weaver Watson worked for Showtime Networks in the marketing department and prior to Showtime she served on the executive management team of Global Telecom Solutions which as the Vice President of Marketing was instrumental in the company’s rapid growth, public offering and sale. Ms. Weaver Watson began her career at Rainbow Advertising where she held positions in sales, marketing and design. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Pace University and a Master of Professional Studies in Design Management from Pratt Institute.
