For months I'd gone back and forth with myself about whether I was going to read the Twilight novels. But being blind, my only options were to either ..Show More »find them in braille, a medium which I find extremely tedious to be quite frank, or to listen to them. I tried at first to listen to the Library of Congress version, also known as the Talking Book version specifically recorded for us blind folks, but the narrator's voice ruined the story for me. But as is often the case in these situations, the commercially available audiobook was done much better. The story itself was far more interesting than I was expecting, always a plus, but Ilyana Kadushin's narration added just that little bit more to the pie, so to speak. Her smooth, slightly husky voice doesn't seem out of place, particularly when the character speaking is Edward Cullen or Jacob Black. I didn't hear the flatness that another reviewer complained about. I don't think they could have picked a better narrator unless perhaps it were Stephenie Meyer herself. Needless to say I'm glad I spent the two credits on this program, although I'll say right here and now that I messed up my sleep cycle for the next several weeks reading the entire series.

Awful narrator spoiled what is supposed to be a terrific read. Would not recommend this ever

I know I'm not the intended audience for this series, although I'm female I left "young adulthood" ages (and ages) ago. I enjoyed Twilight and I will ..Show More »probably listen to the fourth book when it's available (I'm compulsive, okay) but listening to this book was like treading water. The "exposition fairy" ran amok in Eclipse and other than that not much else happens. Nothing is resolved. The outcome of the big "battle" is in no way unexpected. And if you edited out every sentence where Bella expresses either her own unworthiness or someone else's perfection, this book would be half as long. Fans will feel compelled to slog their way through this one but here's hoping Bella relocates her brain and her backbone in time for book 4.

Now I'm downloading the story to listen all over agian. Only hoping that this isn't really the end and perhaps there could be one more story to be told.

Given t..Show More »hat it is essentially a short story it cannot be expected to have the kind of development of a full novel, yet this story manages to establish understanding and sympathy for the main character Bri plus the beginnings of a tragicly shortened budding romance between two characters who deserve better than they've been getting. Like reading Romeo and Juliet for the second time, we already know the hopeless fate of Bri and anyone she might care about and don't expect to be drawn in or touched by the fates of those we already know to be doomed. And yet, like Romeo and Juliet, the very fact that we know in advance that they are doomed becomes what touches us.

I personally think that Meyer's writing is better in this short story format so that the action and emotion build quickly without the writing becoming tedious. In fact, I became more interested than I would have expected in learning even more about the characters we glimpsed so briefly. The narrator does a very good job with Bri's and Diego's voices and the overall tone. Other character voices aren't quite as well established, but this doesn't take anything away from the experience to any great degree.

This may not be the most important work within the Twilight series, but it is a surprisingly satisfying addition.
