Life at UNB Saint John

Many students say they love the small campus since it allows them the chance to really get to know faculty and other students.

It also allows for the opportunity to shine when it comes to extracurriculars, of which the University of New Brunswick Saint John has many. Though small, UNBSJ attracts a number of international students, enriching the cultural flavor of campus.

The Saint John campus is surrounded by acres of land overlooking the Kennebecasis River, which makes for beautiful scenery and the chance to enjoy the outdoors. Combined with the university's athletic facilities, this allows for the opportunity to live a healthy, active lifestyle.

Although campus is in such a natural setting, there are regular bus runs to uptown Saint John and surrounding areas, and uptown is only a ten minute drive away.

Nightlife

It's no secret that university students go to school to do more than just study. The university experience is also about having fun, which is why the University of New Brunswick Saint John has a number of fun things to do at night.

Colonel Tucker's, UNBSJ's campus bar, hosts a number events from live shows to trivia to karaoke. It's also a great place to go to just play cards or hang out with friends.

The Students' Representative Council also plays a role in spicing up the nightlife on campus by holding Friday night dances on a monthly basis. Dances are well attended and a great place to meet people.

How to get involved

The best way to get involved is to just walk in to a club and try it out. Pay attention to notices on campus bulletin boards and try out for a team, or drop by the office of the Baron, the campus paper, and volunteer to write a piece. You never know, you might wind up as team captain or editor.

Aside from organized clubs and societies, there are numerous places to just hang out with friends. There's a campus bar, a Tim Horton's, a cafeteria, and numerous wooded areas where you can grab a seat and just relax.

The Students' Representative Council (SRC) holds regular Friday night dances, and these are a great way to get out there and meet people since they're such a popular event. The size of campus makes it really easy to get to know members of the SRC and learn about what's going on.

The City of Saint John

The City of Saint John has a bustling nightlife with a uniquely Maritime feel. As it's a port city on the waterfront, a lot of Saint John's activity takes place on the waterfront boardwalk. The area is flooded with specialty shops, quaint bars, pubs, and coffee shops, and all the friendly people you'd care to meet.

In the summer there are a ton of festivals and live shows, and in the winter there are cozy little restaurants and cafes to go to with friends, as well as holiday craft shows and regular concerts at Harbour Station.
