Motto: ‘Healthcare for people in a healthy society’

The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) makes the government policy in the field of healthcare, social care and sports.
Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba strive to improve the quality of healthcare, both in field of medical care and the field of service.

Since January 1, 2011 there is a general mandatory healthcare insurance for all lawful residents of the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands.

Significant investments have been made for the renovation of the hospitals and the purchase of new equipment. Through a partnership with the VU and the VUAMC in the Netherlands more basic specializations can be attracted on Bonaire. For St. Eustatius and Saba contracts have been entered into with specialists to hold more consultation hours.
Furthermore, new ambulances have been purchased and the emergency transportation to go abroad has been better arranged on the islands.

The optimization of healthcare on the islands of the Caribbean Netherlands is continuously being worked on.
