Points of Articulation: A Star Wars Kind of Weekend!

For those of you that my have been off planet yesterday, Jj Abrams and the folks at LucasFilm/Disney unveiled the second teaser trailer for Star Wars The Force Awakens yesterday at the opening ceremony of Celebration in Anaheim. The reveal was nothing less than insane. Sitting at my dining room table watching the live feed of the panel I have never in my life felt so connected to other fans. This was a global event. I had friends texting me, instant messaging me, calling me, you name it, all whist we were watching some of the coolest and most chill bump inducing announcements in the history of Star Wars lore. I had friends in attendance at the panel, and even though I couldn’t make it, I felt like I was there. Not unlike how Yoda, Obi-Wan and the newly redeemed Anakin (played by Sebastian Shaw, not that other »

Neca’s 1995 Burning Godzilla Figure

16 April 2015 11:45 AM, PDT

Something big has come to the Famous Monsters’ office… something Nuclear! Neca’s Burning Godzilla has entered the building and right off the bat he is making a big impression! This representation of the 1995 incarnation measures over twelve inches tall from head-to-tail and boasts nearly thirty points of articulation.

For fans that don’t know, this incarnation hails from the 1995 classic, “Godzilla vs. Destoroyah”. In the film, we learn that Godzilla is in trouble; that his heart, which acts like a nuclear reactor, is essentially going through a meltdown, and the reaction is causing a lava-like rash to spread over his whole body. If Godzilla continues this way he will explode with a force approximately “1,000 times greater than all nuclear weapons put together, a burst of power unseen since time began.” As the Japanese scramble to find a solution, a new player enters the battlefield. Points of Articulation: Leonardo and Michelangelo 1/6 Scale Figures by Threezero

14 April 2015 1:46 PM, PDT

I had debated leading off with my utter disappointment in last years theatrical release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles directed by Jonathan Liebsman and produced by the childhood happiness thief himself Michael Bay, however upon prepping photos, I have decided to focus on the good and give Threezero the accolades they deserve.

Threezero was awarded some pretty hefty licenses in the past year or so and so far they have released and previewed some promising products. Their Tyrion Lannister turned out relatively well when comparing the figure to a company such as Sideshow. And though I don’t yet own any pieces from Threezero I am looking forward to their human characters from The Walking Dead.

Enter the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I am certain I am not the only fan of Tmnt that has long desired 1/6th Turtles; it just so happens that these weren’t the Turtles I was looking for. »

Chewin’ the Fat: A Conversation with Wolfcop’s Leo Fafard

13 April 2015 5:26 PM, PDT

I gotta tell ya (and have!), creeps: one of my current fav-o-rite flicks is Wolfcop! That’s why I was pleased as pestilent punch when the film’s star, ol’ Wc himself Leo Fafard dropped by the Crypt o’ Xiii for a lil’ chillin’ chat!

Famous Monsters. So Leo, how did you come to take on the role of the long tooth of the law, Wolfcop?

Leo Fafard. I got involved with the project early on, actually before it was even written. I was shooting a music video Lowell Dean [the die-rector of Wolfcop, ‘natch – Xiii] was directing, and I played the part of the werewolf, although a completely different werewolf than Wolfcop. More of a nerdy professor type werewolf. And by the end of the music video, Lowell must have been somewhat impressed by the way I played a werewolf, and he approached me at the end of the video and asked me if I »

Bloodshot: Reborn and Reloaded for Valiant’s 25th Anniversary

13 April 2015 4:03 PM, PDT

Article and photos by Michael Lizarraga.

Their table racked, stacked, and packed with Divinity, Ninjak, and Harbinger comics; their booth draped with Ivar, Timewalker and Imperium posters, Valiant Entertainment once again strode valiantly into WonderCon Anaheim from April 3-5, marking the company’s 25th anniversary. And like any important milestone, Valiant aims to send a “Bloodshot” heard ’round the comic world, along with an arsenal of others.

Slated for April 15 is Bloodshot Reborn #1, an all-new ongoing series by New York best-selling writer Jeff Lemire and rising artist Mico Suayan. Reborn is a dark, twisted journey of the unstoppable nano-made killing machine Bloodshot, continued from the mini-series The Valiant. Here, Bloodshot is a mere silhouette of his past persona, living a reclusive and humble existence, lamenting over the recent horrific events that almost cost him his sanity. But he is soon pulled into his former violent world when gunmen resembling Bloodshot »
