Tron 3 May Be Titled Tron: Ascension

The surprise news broke earlier this month that Joseph Kosinski's follow-up to Tron: Legacy was suddenly gearing up for an autumn shoot. Now it looks as if the title may have been revealed too. Tweets from industry journal Production Weekly casually suggest that it's Tron: Ascension, as if everybody knew that already.Joseph Kosinski’s Tron: Ascension is planning to film in Vancouver from Early-October 2015 thru February 2016. http://t.co/ihBaFAc3O5— Production Weekly (@prodweek) March 30, 2015That may be a simply a place-holder production title, but speaking purely speculatively, it would certainly make sense given where we left off last time. [Tron Legacy spoiler klaxon] Olivia Wilde's Quora has ascended from the Grid to the really real world, and certain clues that Kosinski has already dropped might suggest other game characters are about to level up in a similar fashion."Tron 3 delivers on the promise of Tron: Legacy, particularly its final scenes, »

Metal Gear Solid Movie Finds A Writer

With director Jordan Vogt-Roberts apparently still attached to direct, the job of nailing down an actual screenplay for Sony's video game adaptation Metal Gear Solid is of slightly more pressing concern. That gig has fallen to Jay Basu, the British writer fresh from Monsters: Dark Continent.Basu is quickly making a name for himself. His action adventure The Pier made the 'Brit List' (like the Black List, but British, do you see?) of buzzy as-yet unproduced screenplays, and he's already ensconsed with Universal developing the new proto-franchise around its roster of classic monsters.Metal Gear Solid, of course, has been around in several incarnations since 1987, but it's taken years of development for the film version to reach this stage. First announced in 2007, it was shoved back into limbo in 2010 when the producers and game creators Konami couldn’t agree on how to approach the property. With those issues now seemingly smoothed out, »

Colin Trevorrow Opens Book Of Henry

With the journey to Jurassic World already complete, director Colin Trevorrow already has Intelligent Life in his sights for the future. But he's now also signed up for a mysterious new project called The Book Of Henry. Not much is yet known about the film, other than that its screenplay is by Gregg Hurwitz, who was involved in the most recent V series and has Orphan X at the option stage with Bradley Cooper. He's a published author who's also written comics for Marvel (Wolverine) and DC (Batman), but The Book Of Henry is an original script. Which means there's no source to plunder for details. Curses. It's clearly been around for some time, however, since Trevorrow says, "Book Of Henry is a remarkable piece of screenwriting that has stuck with me for years. I feel very fortunate to be able to tell this story. It is a true original. »

Disney Developing Live-Action Mulan

Following Alice In Wonderland, Maleficent, the just-released Cinderella and the currently-filming Beauty And The Beast, Disney are heading east for their next live-action fairytale. The Mouse House are now putting together a new retelling of the Chinese legend Mulan. Newcoming team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek are at work on the screenplay.Disney, you'll recall, previously tackled Mulan with a classic animation in 1998, hence most of the internet this morning referring to the new iteration as a remake. Since the legend dates back to the sixth century, however, it seems a bit much to be calling the one with the proto-Donkey Eddie Murphy comedy dragon the "original version", as many are. The first film adaptation was a Chinese silent in 1927.Whatever, in any telling, the thrust is a peasant girl who disguises herself as a man and takes her father's place in the army to go off and fight dastardly invading forces. »

New Trailer For Star Wars: The Force Awakens To Run With Avengers 2

The teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens pretty much brought the internet to a stop back in November. Expect the Lego version to land on May 2.Where this leaves the UK trailer break remains to be seen. The Star Wars Celebration, taking place between April 16-19, will see it debuted in Anaheim, and that could potentially lead to an official online launch soon after. Alternatively, we may not glimpse it until Age Of Ultron opens in UK cinemas on April 24. Clear? Excellent. In any case, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams, from a script that he wrote with Lawrence Kasdan, and stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, »

Johnny Depp's Hand Injury Delays Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 Further

Script issues, tricky actor schedules and many, many other things delayed the shooting of the fifth outing of the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise - officially titled Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - but now, with Johnny Depp's injured hand situation getting a little more complicated, the film's production has been delayed yet further. In early March, Depp injured a finger in an "off-set incident", resulting in a delay to production originally pencilled in as two-weeks long. Now, with a pin inserted into Depp's hand to help fix the problem in the long term, in the short term, the cameras won't be point in Depp's direction soon. That leaves co-stars Javier Bardem and Geoffrey Rush twiddling their hopefully still moveable thumbs, and directors Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning (of Kon-Tiki fame) no doubt increasingly stressed.Meanwhile, 400 or so crew have done what they can to »

Bryan Singer Shares More X-Men: Apocalypse Concept Art

With production minutes – okay, days – away from kicking off on X-Men: Apocalypse, Bryan Singer is back on social media to drop another teasing look at the movie via the medium of production art. He’s been posting pictures from the pre-production phase and today brings a look at what we can only guess is one Warren Worthington III, Aka Angel.  Some production art. #Xmen #XmenApocalypseA photo posted by Bryan Singer (@bryanjaysinger) on Mar 30, 2015 at 10:57am PDTThe image offers an intriguing possibility for what could be happening to the winged one in this film (the character last appeared in person in X-Men: The Last Stand and was listed in Days Of Future Past as having died in a mutant demonstration, though of course the timeline is fluid these days, so here we are). Is he on display in some cruel sideshow? Imprisoned? In a research facility? We’ll have to »

Not content with being among the breakout stars of one of TV’s biggest hits as Arya Stark on Game Of Thrones, Maisie Williams has landed a role on another slightly popular series. That’s right, she’s the new host of Top Gear she’ll appear on Doctor Who. “I'm so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British culture,” Williams said with trademark enthusiasm. “I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”Doctor Who boss and spoilerphobic overlord Steven Moffat welcome the new arrival, while dropping only small hints about what we can expect. “We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, »

Desmond Harrington Finds The Neon Demon

The cameras have already started to roll on Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn’s latest stab at the dark heart of the world. He’s currently conjuring up female-led horror movie The Neon Demon, and has just added Desmond Harrington to the ensemble.Elle Fanning leads a cast that also includes Jena Malone, Karl Glusman, Bella Heathcote, Abbey Lee, Christina Hendricks and Keanu Reeves in the story that finds aspiring model Jesse (Fanning) moving to the City Of Angels only to find that it hides some very dark terrors. In short, “Her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women that will do anything to take what she has.” Which, weirdly, is paraphrased from a slogan on one of the greeting signs when you land at Lax.“I very much look forward to the odyssey I’ll be taking with all these wonderful actresses (and a few »

Emily Blunt Joins Animal Crackers

Indie ‘toon Animal Crackers already boasts Ian McKellen and Sylvester Stallone for an unexpected team-up as part of its cast. Now co-directors Scott Christian Sava and Tony Bancroft have announced that real-life married couple Emily Blunt and John Krasinski are also lending their voices.Animal Crackers follows a family, led by Blunt and Krasinski’s Zoe and Owen Huntington who inherit a ramshackle circus. When they partake of the titular biscuits, they find themselves transformed into animals and other characters, which we feel is a plotline that 1998’s Armageddon sorely missed out on.“When Emily and John came in and performed their first scenes of the movie together... It was magic,” Sava, who also co-wrote the script with Dean Lorey, tells Screen International. “I can think of no other way of describing what they brought to the film. We had to literally go back and re-storyboard the sequences because they »

Mark Strong Heads For Jadotville

Mark Strong, erstwhile Floating Head of this parish and guest of this past weekend’s Jameson Empire Awards, has added another film to his typically busy roster. He’s set to co-star with Jamie Dornan in the war thriller Jadotville. The film is set in 1961 and follows the real-life events around the siege of an Irish Un battalion by 3,000 Congolese troops under the command of French and Belgian mercenaries paid by big mining companies. Dornan is set as the Irish commander, Patrick Quinlan, with Guillaume Canet in charge of the French contingent. There’s no word yet on whom Strong will play. Netflix nabbed the rights to distribute the film at this year’s Berlin Film Festival, signalling the streaming service’s ever-increasing push into original content. “The story of how Pat Quinlan led his troops against an overwhelming force without losing a single man is one of the great stories of the 20th century, »

After the first cinematic outing failed to ignite much interest at the box office, it looked like the planned franchise based on Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments book series was doomed to fade away, unlike some of its popular fellow adaptations. While it has only previously been in development, there is now an official order via Us cable channel ABC Family. The series, called Shadowhunters – after the group that battles evil from the books – will once again follow heroine Clary Fray, who discovers on her 18th birthday that she comes from a line of the hunters, human/angel hybrids who track down demons. First Look At Walking Dead Spin-Off

29 March 2015 8:27 PM, PDT

As Walking Dead creator and exec-producer Robert Kirkman revealed on Twitter, the show’s planned spin-off now has a name – Fear The Walking Dead – and it now has a first teaser too. This trailer aired during The Walking Dead's season five climax this past Sunday in the Us.A mere morsel it may be, but AMC’s first look gives a sense of the mood the spin-off show will be angling for: the cheery obliviousness of daily La life, gradually replaced by gnawing anxiety of an unspecified contagion, and then, presumably, actual gnawing by a horde of the freshly undead.Fear The Walking Dead will take to the small screen in America over the summer months, with a second season already commissioned. With the confidence that comes from a vastly successful TV property (the most recent mid-season premiere was watched by 15.6 million), AMC will have high hopes that an »
