"I promised your mother that I would protect you." Lionsgate/Roadside Attractions has released the first trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin's zombie film Maggie, and it puts the two in a haunting conundrum. The apocalyptic thriller, directed by Henry Hobson from a Black List script by John Scott 3, follows the story of a Midwestern teenager whose father sticks by her side when she's infected by disease that slowly turns her into a cannibalistic zombie. 'Game of Thrones' Star Emilia Clarke on Playing Sarah Connor, Turning Down 'Fifty Shades' and Moving on From Nudity

20 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

This story first appeared in the April 10 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. For some reason, Emilia Clarke best remembers the fruit plate. It was 2010, and the actress was standing before Game of Thrones' casting director and several of the show's producers. But all she could see was the produce. "There was a huge, incredible plateau of fruit," Clarke, 28, recalls in her chirpy British accent. "I was like, 'Wow, I've arrived. This is a serious audition.' " Just one year out of the famed Drama Centre London (other alums include Colin Firth, Michael Fassbender and

Three Academy Award winners – Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist), Volker Schlöndorff (The Tin Drum) and Danis Tanovic (No Man’s Land) – are among 20 film-makers joining the protest against the European Commission’s plans to reform copyright law.

In their statement, also signed by Chantal Akerman, Luc Dardenne, Costa-Gavras, Jaco van Dormael and Julie Bertuccelli, they declared: “We are Europeans who still hear the echo of [European Commission] President Juncker saying that he would never accept creators being ‘treated like plastic manufacturers’, but now his College compare our work with selling a car or a tie.”

“We are Europeans shocked to hear of ‘breaking down national silos in copyright’, yet nothing to condemn ongoing violations of copyright, which hinder the development of online legal services.”

Documentary about gang rape wins Indian national film award

2 hours ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

The director of the award-winning Daughters of Mother India contrasts her film with the banned India’s Daughter documentary, calling the latter ‘sensationalist’

A documentary about the gang rape and killing of medical student Jyoti Singh has won a prize at the National film awards in India – but not the controversial film India’s Daughter, made by British film-maker Leslee Udwin.

Instead it was Daughters of Mother India, directed by Vibha Bakshi, that was recognised at the ceremony in the best film on social issues category. She said she was “overwhelmed and thrilled at this highest level of appreciation” from the judging panel, headed by director Kamal Swaroop and approved by India’s ministry of information and broadcasting. They described the 45-minute film as “explicitly and determinedly turning the spotlight on the burning issue of rape in the country and the brutal mentality that drives it.”

The film that makes me cry: Field of Dreams

4 hours ago | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

When you’ve lost your father, Field of Dreams strikes home with an unexpected force – as the tourists who flock to the farm where it was filmed prove

I first saw Field of Dreams on 25 December 1993, on ITV. My father had died on 11 January 1992. If you want to, you can stop reading now, because you don’t have to be a psychologist to work out why Field of Dreams made me cry.

I was 22 when Dad died, he was 52. I was six months out of university, living at home, and I’d just started working as a journalist. We hadn’t had a chance to get to know each other as adults, and, because of his shyness and quietness, I’d never really developed the sense of him as a person in his own right: he was just Dad, the person who went to work to pay the mortgage, then »

Cate Blanchett swears during strange Cinderella interview

6 hours ago | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

She was meant to be promoting Disney's new live action Cinderella film, but things didn't quite go to plan for Cate Blanchett in a recent interview.

The actress was speaking to Australian talk show The Project, when things got out of hand between her and interviewer Jonathan Hyla.

Watch: The Full, Uncut Cate Blanchett interview from @theprojecttv >> https://t.co/ublVe3OMEn

— Channel Ten (@channelten) March 26, 2015

Rather than talking about the upcoming movie, the exchange was filled with odd chatter about dating, potato vodka, sex and parenting among other things (quite the combination).

When the pair actually got back on topic - yes, let's not forget this is an interview for Cinderella - Blanchett laughs off the absurdity of the question.

"How were you able to get that cat to do what you wanted on a leash?" the interviewer asked.

"That's your question? That's your f**king question?" she replied. »

Studios Digitally Scanning Actors Is Tech 2.0 Greatness

7 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Over the past couple of decades, we've seen digital effects blur the limits between physical performances with digital appearances. As early as Jurassic Park's initial steps into replacing a stunt performer's face with that of a starring actor, and as recently as this year's Furious 7, we've seen technology moving mountains and making actors look as if they're doing the impossible. Now that studios are getting involved in digital scanning processes that capture the complete likenesses of their actors, it's become easier to surmount the most difficult obstacle any film could be forced to deal with: the untimely death of an actor. The Hollywood Reporter gained some interesting insight to the still highly secretive process of recreating Paul Walker's likeness in the uncompleted portions of Furious 7. With the actor's untimely death in 2013 putting a temporary halt in production at the halfway mark, Universal Studios looked like it »

Ben Mendelsohn Circling 'Star Wars' Spinoff 'Rogue One'

8 hours ago | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

When it was announced, the only thing we really knew about the cast and crew of the first of several forthcoming Star Wars spinoffs was that Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) would be in the director's chair. But in the last couple months, the film -- which recently received a title, Rogue One -- has founds its female lead in Felicity Jones, a composer in Alexandre Desplat, and now it appears the spinoff has found its male lead in Ben Mendelsohn. Mendelsohn's filmography is filled mostly with supporting credits, including a solid trio of films over the last few years in The Dark Knight Rises, Killing Them Softly, and The Place Beyond the Pines. The latter of those three includes solid acting all-round, including Mendelsohn, and I'm interested to see what he brings to a starring role in a Star Wars film considering I don't know his work with a ton of familiarity. »

How Avengers 2 Fixes Hulk's Clothing Malfunction Problem

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we've seen Bruce Banner (both the Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo versions) suffer the embarrassment that comes with unintentional public nudity multiple times. This is because whatever clothes he happens to be wearing tend to shred like paper whenever he transforms into the Hulk. This is definitely a problem that's been going on for far too long, but it's one that is finally given a solution in Joss Whedon's upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron. ComicBook.com has gotten its hands on a Disney-published list of 13 facts about the next Marvel Studios blockbuster, and included amongst trivia about new characters and the sweet new Avengers Tower is an interesting tidbit about the way that the film will be finally addressing Hulk's tendency to rip his pants and leave Bruce Banner stranded without clothing.
