Libraries are a key constituency for AAUP members. Nonprofit scholarly publishers and research libraries share a common mission to support scholarly communications and have many overlapping areas of policy interests. Libraries of all kinds—academic, public, and school—are key partners as well in AAUP members' goal of disseminating the work of their authors as broadly as possible.

Collection Development Tools

University Press Books for Public and Secondary School Libraries

This valuable collection development tool is compiled each year in partnership with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the Public Library Association (PLA). The bibliography is published in both print and online editions and distributed free to more than 14,000 librarians.

Often the most complete and illuminating background research and knowledge for a breaking news story is only available in scholarly books from presses committed to the public interest. When a major story breaks—such as the Egyptian uprising or a Supreme Court nomination fight— Books for Understanding compiles guides to relevant books and journals published by our member presses.
