Perspectives on Health Care

The health care debate in Washington, D.C., and around the nation has ended with passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The new law has important consequences for Johns Hopkins Medicine operations, for our employees, and for our patients. JHM executives played a quiet but notable role in the debate, meeting with officials from the White House and the Cabinet, and with Members of Congress and their staff, explaining the key role of academic medical centers in the delivery of health care to millions of Americans. The resources below will give you insight into the JHM contribution to the debate and how the institution will move forward under the new law.

The following is the statement by Johns Hopkins Medicine leaders regarding enactment of H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
“We at Johns Hopkins Medicine applaud the enactment of health care reform legislation that extends coverage to tens of millions of Americans and we stand ready to work with the administration and Congress on these new and significant changes to our health care system. The months ahead bring both opportunities and challenges for additional adjustments to the new law.”
