Home Care Group Recognized as Top Performer (November 2014)

Johns Hopkins Home Care Group announced that it has once again been named a HomeCare Elite top agency for 2014, a recognition of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Sibley Memorial Hospital Recognized as Leaders in LGBT Health Care Equality (October 2014)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Sibley Memorial Hospital have each been named a 2014 Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality. This status is awarded to health care facilities that meet all of the core criteria for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patient-centered care in the Human Rights Campaign’s Healthcare Equality Index.

U.S. News & World Report, Best Hospitals (July 2014)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital ranked number three out of approximately 5,000 hospitals nationally and number one in Maryland. Of the 16 specialties ranked by U.S. News, The Johns Hopkins Hospital had 15 that were nationally ranked—10 of them in the top five.

Johns Hopkins Recognized as a Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion (May 2014)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System is one of nine U.S. health care employers recognized as a 2014 Frontline Healthcare Worker Champion, an award given by CareerSTAT, an initiative of the National Fund for Workforce Solutions and Jobs for the Future.

Suburban Hospital Wins Delmarva Award for Quality (December 2013)

The Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Maryland, has awarded the 2013 Delmarva Foundation Excellence Award for Quality Improvement in Hospitals to Suburban Hospital, a member of the Johns Hopkins Health System.

Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Award Presented to HCGH (December 2013)

The 2013 Delmarva Excellence Award for Quality Improvement in Hospitals from the Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care was presented to Howard County General Hospital. The award recognizes individual hospitals that excel in patient safety and quality improvement in four national inpatient clinical areas: acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, surgical care improvement projects and pneumonia.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Once Again Achieves Magnet Designation for Nursing Excellence (November 2013)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital has once again achieved Magnet® designation in recognition of its nursing excellence. The designation comes from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Only about 7 percent of the nation’s hospitals have met the criteria to earn this prestigious designation for providing the highest quality patient care, teamwork, professionalism and innovation in nursing practice.

Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Named Center of Excellence for Joint Replacements by National Companies (October 2013)

In an effort to provide excellent knee and hip replacement care for their employees while gaining more predictability in their costs, Walmart, Lowe’s and other large employers have joined the Pacific Business Group on Health Negotiating Alliance to launch a National Employers Centers of Excellence Network. Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center is the only hospital on the East Coast selected to be part of the network.

Suburban Hospital One of the Best Hospitals for Surgery in Maryland (August 2013)

Suburban Hospital is one of the region’s best hospitals for surgery, according to data recently released by Consumer Reports. Suburban was one of the six Maryland hospitals to achieve the highest rating possible, with a score of “better,” which is the highest rating on a five-point scale.

Johns Hopkins Earns Comprehensive Stroke Center Designation (July 2013)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital is the first in Maryland to have its stroke center recognized as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. The designation puts Johns Hopkins in an elite group of providers focused on highly specialized stroke care. It recognizes hospitals that have state-of-the-art infrastructure, staff and training to receive and treat patients with the most complex strokes.

U.S. News & World Report, Best Hospitals (July 2013)
The Johns Hopkins Hospital has regained the top spot in U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings of American hospitals, placing first in five medical specialties and in the top six in 10 others.

U.S. News & World Report, Best Children’s Hospitals (July 2013)
In 2013, the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center ranked as one of the top children’s hospitals overall in the nation and ranked highly in all specialty areas.

LGBT Healthcare Equality Leader (July 2013)
The Johns Hopkins Hospital has been recognized as a 2013 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Healthcare Equality Leader. This status is awarded to health care facilities that meet all of the core criteria for LGBT patient-centered care in the Healthcare Equality Index, which is administered by the Human Rights Campaign.

Howard County General Hospital Receives Two Significant Designations for Stroke Treatment Program (June 2013)
Howard County General Hospital has again received the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems redesignation as a primary stroke center for the state of Maryland. HCGH has also received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association's Get With The Guidelines--Stroke Gold Quality Achievement Award.

U.S. News & World Report, Best Graduate Schools (March 2013)
The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine remains among the top medical schools in the United States, according to the 2014 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools. In addition, Johns Hopkins is listed in the top tier of specialty rankings.

Johns Hopkins Wins Healthcare Innovator of the Year (January 2013)
The Information Technology and Systems Department at Johns Hopkins won an award for the development and implementation of Tap and Go in The Charlotte R. Bloomberg Children’s Center and Sheikh Zayed Tower. The Tap and Go application automates the process of logging on to a PC, and enables users to tap out of one workstation and into another by taking them back to the screen where they had been working.

Johns Hopkins Home Care Group Awarded Gold Seal Accreditation from the Joint Commission (November 2012)
The Johns Hopkins Home Care Group has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety in home care.

National Quality Organization Names Five More Johns Hopkins Community Practice Sites 'Patient-Centered Medical Homes' (January 2013)
Five additional offices of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians (JHCP) are now recognized as Patient-Centered Medical Homes by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, bringing the number of JHCP sites that met the strict criteria for providing the highest-quality, patient-centered care to 10.

The Joint Commission
In addition to The Gold Seal of Approval from The Joint Commission, The Johns Hopkins Hospital has been awarded several Special Quality Awards and Advanced Certification Programs.

Magnet Recognition (July 2008)
The Johns Hopkins Hospital first gained Magnet status in 2003 and was re-recognized in 2008 as part of the four-year designation.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital has received the Consumer Choice Award from the National Research Corporation (NRC), a firm that specializes in health care performance measurement and improvement.

Certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (August 2012)
The Johns Hopkins Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Green Spring Station has received national certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services "re-designates" JHH Perinatal Referral Center (February 2012)
The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) has re-designated The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) as a Level IIIC Perinatal Referral Center for Maryland. This is the 11th time JHH has earned the certification.

National Committee for Quality Assurance Recognition for Patient-Centered Medical Home program (January 2012)
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has recognized all five of Johns Hopkins Community Physicians’ (JHCP) sites that applied for Patient-Centered Medical Home program recognition.

Johns Hopkins Safety Team Honored for Reducing Clinical Alarms (October 2012)
ECRI Institute names The Johns Hopkins Hospital winner of the 2012 Health Devices Achievement Award.

Johns Hopkins Hospital Recognized as Top Hospital by Business Magazine (March 2012)
Johns Hopkins Hospital has earned a spot on the 100 Great Hospitals of 2012 list developed by Becker’s Hospital Review.

Three Johns Hopkins Medicine Hospitals Recognized as Top Performers in Quality and Safety (November 2014)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Suburban Hospital and Sibley Memorial Hospital are recipients of the Joint Commission’s 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures award. The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Recognized by Press Ganey for VTE Core Measure Efforts (November 2014)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital was named a 2014 Press Ganey Success Story Award recipient for its venous thromboembolism (VTE) improvement efforts. The award honors outstanding health care providers that have demonstrated leadership, implemented organizational change and improved performance.

Three JHHS Hospitals Honored with Delmarva Foundation 2014 Excellence Award (September 2014)

The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and Sibley Memorial Hospital have been awarded the 2014 Excellence Award for Quality Improvement in Hospitals from the Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, an independent, nonprofit health care quality improvement organization. The award honors individual hospitals that excel in patient safety and quality improvement.

Joint Commission Designates Three Johns Hopkins Medicine Hospitals as ‘Top Performers’ in Quality and Safety (October 2013)

The Joint Commission is honoring three Johns Hopkins Medicine hospitals in its 2012 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures program. The Top Performer designation is reserved for accredited hospitals that consistently and at a very high level follow best practices for treating people who require surgery or suffer heart attacks, heart failure, stroke, pneumonia or other serious conditions.

Johns Hopkins Awarded $2.1 Million to Improve Post-Hospital Care for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (October 2013)

The Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality has been awarded a $2.1 million contract to develop, implement and study a program that better supports people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) following hospitalization — a period when patients are especially prone to re-hospitalization. The three-year project will be funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.

Johns Hopkins Awarded $7.3 Million to Prevent Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (September 2013)

The Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality has been awarded a three-year, $7.3 million contract from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to bring its proven checklist for reducing ventilator-associated pneumonia — the most lethal of all hospital-acquired infections — to hospitals nationwide.

Johns Hopkins’ Armstrong Institute Receives $8.9 Million Patient Safety Grant (August 2012)
Johns Hopkins’ Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality has received an $8.9 million grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the first award given as part of an ambitious new $500 million, 10-year program designed to eliminate all preventable harms that patients experience in the hospital.

Johns Hopkins and SEHA to Collaborate on Enhancing Patient Safety (March 2012)
Patient safety at hospitals across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is the key component of a two-year agreement between Johns Hopkins Medicine International (JHI), on behalf of Johns Hopkins’ Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality in Baltimore, Md., USA, and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA).

Johns Hopkins Awarded $10 Million Contract to Reduce Surgical Infections (November 2011)
Johns Hopkins’ Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality has been awarded $10 million for a project designed to reduce surgical-site infections and other major complications of colon surgery.

Johns Hopkins Establishes Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality (May 2011)
The Armstrong Institute will oversee all of the current patient safety and quality efforts throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Innovation Grants

Johns Hopkins Awarded $2 Million Grant to Help Reduce Premature Births (February 2013)
The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine received a $2 million federal grant to advance methods of preventing preterm births. The Johns Hopkins Hospital is one of only 27 hospitals to benefit from this grant from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Maryland Innovation Initiative Invests in Johns Hopkins Biomedical Projects (December 2012)
A Maryland corporation established to help accelerate the commercialization of new technologies has awarded nearly $300,000 to three Johns Hopkins-related projects that hold promise for ushering new medical devices to the marketplace.

JHM Awarded $19.9M Innovation Grant from CMS for its J-CHIP Program (June 2012)
The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Health System (together known as Johns Hopkins Medicine, or JHM), has been awarded a $19.9 million grant by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), over a three-year period, to improve the quality and efficiency of health care delivered to JHM patients.

Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Awarded $4.1M Innovation Grant for Medicare/ Medicaid Dual Eligibles Program (June 2012)
The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing received an award for Medicare/Medicaid dual eligibles program (Community Aging in Place, Advancing Better Living for Elders –"CAPABLE") that uses a care management team to improve the everyday functioning of complex, frail patients in their own homes.

Johns Hopkins Medicine Named Top Place to Work by Computerworld
Johns Hopkins Medicine has been selected by IDG’s Computerworld magazine as one of the nation’s 100 Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) for 2013.

Best Hospitals to work for in the U.S. by HealthExecNews.com (June 2012)
HospitalExecNews.com has named The Johns Hopkins Hospital one of the "25 Best Hospitals to Work for in the U.S." Opportunities for professional development, exceptional benefits, compensation, and efficient workflow and employee satisfaction have all contributed to The Johns Hopkins Hospital spot on the best 25 hospitals to work for list.

Johns Hopkins Named Top Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace (January 2011)
The Maryland Breastfeeding Coalition and its sister group the D.C. Breastfeeding Coalition have recognized the Johns Hopkins’ East Baltimore Medical Campus as the region’s top workplace for supporting breastfeeding mothers.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital Named by Becker’s Magazines as Best Place to Work (May 2011)
Chicago-based publications Becker’s Hospital Review and its Ambulatory Surgery Center Review have named The Johns Hopkins Hospital as one of the 100 best places to work in health care in the United States for 2011.
