Where Does the Robert Durst Case Go From Here?

8 hours ago | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

On Sunday, March 15, hours before the series finale of HBO’s The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, police in New Orleans apprehended Robert Durst and charged him with first-degree murder. When he was found, Durst was staying in a hotel room he’d paid for in cash, under a fake name. Sources told the New York Times they considered Durst a flight risk. Durst was represented by legal counsel during the filming of The Jinx; his lawyer Chip Lewis even appears on camera in some of the episodes. After the finale, Lewis spoke to a triumphant Jeanine Pirro on Fox News and claimed to be “underwhelmed” by Durst’s muttered bathroom confession. Durst himself seems to understand the trouble he is in. He has again retained high-priced Texas attorney Dick DeGuerin, the man who managed to get Durst acquitted of murder under sensational circumstances once before. DeGuerin »

Watch: New Trailer For 'Furious 7' Is All About Family And Cars Jumping Into Skyscrapers

8 hours ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Last night at SXSW, Universal treated audiences with a "secret" midnight screening of "Furious 7." We'll have our verdict on the movie later today, but first, a new international trailer has arrived for the movie which positions it's two key selling points: it's a movie about family....where cars parachute out of gigantic airplanes and speed out of one skyscraper and crash land in another skyscraper. In case you haven't been made aware until now, this franchise has all the subtlety of a punch to the groin. Anyway, this new international spot follows the general beats of the domestic trailers, but with a good amount of new footage tossed in for good measure. You're not here to see character moments, but the sizzle reel stuff. And yes, you will get served with macho dudes fighting and expensive machines being trashed real good. Vin Diesel will never let you down. "Furious 7 »

Jack Huston and Jessica Brown Findlay to Star in 'The Crow'

7 hours ago | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

The Crow remake over at Relativity sure has had its share of ups and downs, departures and attachments. Most recently Luke Evans dropped out of starring as the lead character, Eric Draven, a man that rises from the dead to avenge his and his fiancee's death. Now, previous rumors that Jack Huston ("Boardwalk Empire") would pick up where Evans left off appear to have come true. Reported by Dread Central, series creator James O'Barr told the site, "Jack Huston has definitely been cast. I'm really happy with that choice and the film will shoot in a couple of months." Meanwhile, we also learn Jessica Brown Findlay (A Winter's Tale, "Downton Abbey") will star as Draven's fiancee, Shelly Webster. I've never read O'Barr's graphic novel, which served as the inspiration for 1994's The Crow starring Brandon Lee, but he tells the site this new adaptation will stick much closer to the source material. »

Alchemy has acquired worldwide rights to director Mitch Dickman’s marijuana documentary “Rolling Papers” following its premiere at South by Southwest.

“’Rolling Papers’ is a must-see documentary about how the media and society deal with the rapid cultural shift to marijuana legalization,” said Alchemy topper Bill Lee. “The film couldn’t be more timely and we look forward to bringing it to a worldwide audience.”

The documentary centers on the Denver Post’s introduction last year of the Cannabist section — led by Ricardo Baca, the world’s first marijuana editor, as he sets out to report history in the making with a team of strait-laced staff writers and offbeat freelancers.

Producers are Britta Erickson, Daniel Junge, Karl Kister, Alison Greenberg-Millice and Katie Shapiro. Executive producers are Dave Berlin, Joni Eddy, Chad Troutwine and Walker Diebel.

DC ComicsJustice League may be a few years away from fruition on the big screen, but the comicbook publisher is steadily building a powerful roster of superhero shows on TV. The CW’s hit “Arrow” has already spawned an equally successful spinoff in “The Flash,” and now executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim are looking to further cement their empire with another super-powered offshoot, this time taking characters from “Arrow” and “The Flash” and combining them in an epic team-up series. The spinoff will be produced by the trio, along with Sarah Schechter.

Berlanti — who is also executive producing CBS’ “Supergirl” series with Kreisberg, Schechter and Ali Adler — told Variety that the new show is designed to be “most similar to our crossover episodes, where you feel that ‘event-iness,’ but all the time.”

For us, first and foremost, with all of [our shows], it’s about ‘how is it its own thing? »

SXSW: ‘Trainwreck’ Star Amy Schumer Says “If You’re Against Feminism, You’re a Crazy Person”

46 minutes ago | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Amy Schumer's outrageously hilarious feminist sketch series "Inside Amy Schumer," on Comedy Central, brazenly lampoons social institutions, muscle-flexing machismo and, of course, Schumer herself. She is unabashed and unafraid to take comedy's X-ray to herself and does exactly that in her upcoming "Trainwreck," which she wrote and stars in, directed by Judd Apatow. (Universal opens the film July 17.) Theater-trained in New York, Schumer waited tables, tended bar and worked in a mail office while struggling as a comic. She idolized Lucille Ball, Whoopi Goldberg, Gilda Radner and Julia Louis-Dreyfus ("the funniest person alive") while developing her own filter-free, loudmouthed, unapologetic style. And now she's about to break out big time. In spirit of the film's raucous South by Southwest premiere on Sunday — technically as a "work-in-progress" — Schumer offered up a blunt chat about the film, her career and where her »
