The Buzz:
"I'm really, really excited about Cinderella." That statement has been met with skeptical looks from my friends for the past few weeks. I'm a bit surprised about it, too - my reaction to Disney's last three live-action fantasy movies have ranged from disappointment (Maleficent) to disgust (Alice in Wonderland). So why would I want to see this?
First, it seems like this movie has more-or-less avoided the kind of gaudy CGI work that dominated those previous installments. There are real sets here - and they look fantastic. The other main selling point is the movie's cast. Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother? Yes please. It's also nice to see Richard Madden playing royalty again (following his star-making role as Robb Stark on "Game of Thrones"). Finally, relative newcomer Lily James seems to be imbuing some energy in to the role of Cinderella.
Even if you're not completely on board, I urge you to go out and see this: if this earns as much, or more, than some of those past fantasies, Disney may consider less CGI-heavy approaches to future fantasy movies as well.

The Buzz:
Liam Neeson acts tough and beats up bad guys - haven't we seen this before? Many, many times. So why am I excited about Run All Night?
First, the movies reunites Neeson with the director of Non-Stop and Unknown, both of which are solidly entertaining entries in his recent action movie portfolio. Second, this one is rated R, which will allow Neeson to really let loose on the movie's gangster baddies; two of his best movies in recent memory are The Grey and A Walk Among the Tombstones, both of which were also rated R.
The movie also has a really strong supporting cast. It's going to be exciting to see Neeson face off against Ed Harris, who is probably his most interesting nemesis in quite some time. I also think Joel Kinnaman has the goods - he's top notch in "The Killing" - but RoboCop didn't really let him flex his acting muscles that much. Here's hoping that Run All Night is the right showcase for his talents.

The Buzz:
What appeals to me about this throwback horror movie is that it seems irony-free and focused on mounting a form of lingering terror that will remain after watching it. In terms of how it addresses the scariness of sex, the story brings to mind of one my favorite graphic novels: Black Hole by Charles Burns.

Seymour: An Introduction (2014) - [Limited]
Meet Seymour Bernstein: a beloved pianist, teacher and true inspiration who shares eye-opening insights from an amazing life. Ethan Hawke helms this poignant guide to life.
Director:Ethan Hawke |

The Buzz: Apparently the music of Seymour Bernstein helped Ethan Hawke through a rough artistic patch, but Hawke is barely on-screen during his documentary on the renown pianist, who turned away from the limelight to focus on teaching. Bernstein plays for the camera literally and figuratively in what's been called one of the warmest documentaries in recent memory.
The Wrecking Crew (2008) - [Limited]
A celebration of the musical work of a group of session musicians known as "The Wrecking Crew", a band that provided back-up instrumentals to such legendary recording artists as Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys and Bing Crosby.
