Mr. Vargas was part of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team from the Washington Post that reported on the Virginia Tech shootings in 2007. A series of articles he wrote on Washington, DC, residents living with AIDS is currently being developed into a documentary.
Mr. Vargas was born in the Philippines and moved to the U.S. when he was 12 years old. He graduated from San Francisco State University in 2004.
