With the recent developments that Windows 10 will be not only a free upgrade, but will be done through Windows Update (no discs or major update requirements), I am curious to know how fast we can get GW2 up and running with the new OS.

Has anyone bothered to install Windows 10 yet? I am considering getting the release candidate, but I am pretty hesitant since I primarily play games on my PC.

Thoughts?

There's no point to running Windows 10 because games have to be coded to take advantage of the features in DirectX 12.

DirectX 12 won’t make your PC or XBox One magically faster.

First off, the developer has to write their game so that they’re interacting with the GPU through multiple cores simultaneously. Most games, even today, are still written so that only 1 core is dedicated to interacting with the GPU.

Second, this only benefits you if your game is CPU bound. Most games are. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a modern Nvidia card get GPU bound (if anyone can think of an example, please leave it in the comments).

Third, if you’re a XBox One fan, don’t assume this will give the XBO superiority.  By the time games come out that use this, you can be assured that Sony will have an answer.

It's okay to enjoy crap if you're willing to admit it's crap.

Yes, it works perfectly fine.  I've been runing the technical preview as my primary OS since it was released by microsoft.

I think the think you'd likely run into would be driver compatibility or bugs therein.  If you do go with Windows 10, install the latest Windows 8.1 drivers for your hardware and you should be good to go.

The hardware I'm using is as follows...
MSI Z87-G45 Mobo
Intel i5-4570k @ 4.2GHz
MSI GTX 760TF
32GB Corsair Vengeance Pro @ 2133MHz

For my GPU, I'm using the nVidia driver version 347.25.

Good luck :)

I don't want to get Windows 10 to run GW2 better. I want to run Windows 10 to learn it as quickly as possible. I am in IT, and I also support friends and family, and everyone is going to have a ton of questions. I don't have a test machine at the moment though.

I am simply curious to know if anyone has been able to run GW2 on Win 10 or not. I know most drivers are still compatible.

Wouldn't you be better served VMing it instead then?  Just install your current version into a VM, then upgrade the VM.

I would like to use 10 as the default OS for the time being, so I can actually experience it. Not through a VM, nor through anything else. As close to the way everyone will be using it during release.

It is coming out sooner than later, and I want a solid handle on it. I keep important files saved on a separate hard drive and backed up, so there is no real risk of data loss. I could be back up and running with Win 7 in no time.

I was simply curious to know if anyone has any actual experience with the actual topic.

Yep, runs slightly better, because Windows 10 uses less CPU resources when idle than 8.1.

EDIT:  I know how to speak English...

Had it running on my machine.  I've only reverted back due to work requirements, but it's solid even in its current state/current build.
