After years of pleading to the forces of the Hoenn region, it appears that Hoenn fans have finally had their pleas answered: this November, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are to be released worldwide for the Nintendo 3DS!
Yes, that's right. Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Hoenn remakes confirmed!
There aren't too many details about the game just yet, but from the sounds of it, it is not just a remake, but an entirely new adventure. Additionally, even looking at the official box art implies that there's something going on with Groudon and Kyogre.
Here's the full press release, which expands on what it says over on the official website:
BELLEVUE, WA — May 7, 2014 — The Pokémon Company International and Nintendo announced today that Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire will launch worldwide in November 2014, exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. Pokémon fans will collect, battle, and trade Pokémon in a new adventure.
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire are a fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, which launched in 2003 and were fan-favorite hits on the Game Boy Advance system. The new titles promise to take players through a dramatic story within a spectacular new world.

Needless to say, it's incredibly exciting to hear that there will, indeed, be new Pokémon games this year, and that The Pokémon Company and The Pokémon Company International have listened to the pleas for Hoenn remakes. Of course, it hasn't been 100% confirmed that these games take place in Hoenn, but being a "fresh take on Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire" suggests it.
UPDATE (9:42am CDT): Added the full press release.
Omg I'm so excited! I can't believe they're actually doing remakes. Can't wait till November!!!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh man. I haven't played the originals, but totally getting this.
I wonder if there'll be new Megas.
I guess there will be Mega Groudon and Mega Kyogre (or more likely new forms - Omega Groudon and Alpha Kyogre)!! Also new mega starters!!
I just love waking up to new Pokemon News every morning. As someone who's only copy of Sapphire was lost somewhere in the black hole that is under my bed (Have cleaned and never found it), I love the idea of remakes for the younger players who never got the Gen 3 games as they are nearly impossible to find anywhere these days.
Hear, hear. I jumped on the Pokémon bandwagon about the time HGSS came out, so this is totally awesome for me.
In my opinion HGSS had too many flaws for me to "really" enjoy them :-(
The level caps where completely f***ed up. How where anyone supposed to train for Clair's lv40 beasts when all the Pokémon in the surrounding areas where Lv20-25? That's right they can't!
I had the same issues in gen 3... Lv42 gym leaders no Pokémon to train against... highest where lv26 and ain't nobody got time for that!
I dearly hope they fix this in the remakes! At least so that one can train without having to perform mass murder on Spheal's!
I need more money to throw at the screen!
So many good games coming out this year! AWESOME!
I hope its gonna be good, or else its gonna ruin many good momeries for many people. I guess its going be few years after the originals with some kind of new leader to the magna/aqua teams. i wonder if they'll leave norman and whos going to be, if any, the new champion.
These are remakes. There won't be any differences story-wise. (Nolan will be the gym leader dad, Steven will be the champion and Team Magma/Aqua will have an unexplained hatred for water/land.)
What I hope they mix up is the levels of the wild Pokémon I remember having no way to train for the Mossdeep gym since all there was to fight in the wild at that point was Lv26 and lower Zubats/Spheals. And the gym leaders where at LV42... I hated them soooo much for not giving me any good training grounds... Really hope they fix that part...
But all in all these have been confirmed to be remakes of Ruby and Sapphire that means it'll still be the same story only that they might add some new areas like they did with HGSS (another game that lacked foes worth training against...seriously I'm gonna fight Clair's mighty dragons Lv38-40 and you give me Lv22-24 wild Pokémon to fight?)
YES YES YES JUST YES
IM EXCITED!! Well I'm always excited for Pokemon games but!! Gonna get Omega Ruby!
And this isnt April fools this time?!
It's May, so I guess it isn't. Moreover, these games are officially confirmed by The Pokémon Company, as you can see in the video embedded in Marriland's article. ;)
I know, right? When I saw this, I thought I was going mad. But no, that was a month ago.
Wow, Marriland, if they make Ruby / Saphire remakes and don't put them in Hoenn, that'd be one of the greatest trolls by Nintendo i've ever seen. XD The fans will rage~
OMG GEN 3 REMAKE! So happy! I played Gen 3 as my first game with Emerald [couldn't find Gen 1 at that time]. I call Torchic!
And what's great is there's already a Mega Blaziken, so you'd have a soon-to-be-Mega in your party at the beginning!
mega sceptile grass/dragon and mega swampert water/ground. it will happen.
