Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire: What Else There Is To Do

By Laura . November 22, 2014 . 5:00pm

Aside from going on your journey to become Pokémon Champion and saving the world a few times, what is there for you to do in Hoenn? Well, there are several options. In Slateport, you meet Lisia and Altaria, top Contest idols in the region of Hoenn. She picks you out of a crowd and proclaims you as a potential future idol. Now, you can achieve all of your dreams of stardom by entering Contests and trying to achieve Master Rank in all five categories.

I never tried Contests in the past. They were always a black box to me, and I never had any idea what the effects of any of the attacks were. I tried bluffing my way through one, and it ended horribly and this traumatized me, so I never tried again.

Okay, Okay… so it wasn’t that bad, but the Contests in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are extremely easy to get into, in comparison to the original games. You can easily see the effects of any attacks, and the rules are easy to follow. There are also fancy effects that happen when an audience is completely hyped up, and you can see the hilarity of a Tough Magikarp … well, looking extremely “Tough,” complete with punching noises. I also love how your character changes into a Contest Costume to match the spirit. (I’m still holding out on unlockable costumes, but I haven’t found any yet…)

Even more interestingly, the Contests have their own separate storyline that slowly unlocks as you complete more of them. You get to learn more about Lisia, and… well, I’d like to tell you more about it, but I’m still just getting my feet wet. As long as it’s done well, any world-building is good world-building in my opinion, though, and Lisia’s story looks promising.

If Contests aren’t your cup of tea, another reason to return to old areas is to build your very own Secret Base. The general concept is the same—use Secret Power on a bush, tree, or hole in the wall, and voila! A room of your very own. This time, it’s a Secret Base Expert Aarune who shows you the ropes. He is also the leader of the Secret Base Guild located in Fortree City, where you can gain hints on how the newer features of Secret Bases work. There seems to be multiplayer functionality, and you can trade QR codes to share your Bases.

One of the biggest problems with setting up a Secret Base for me in Pokémon Emerald was using the PC. There was too much menu usage, but now, both “Put Decoration” and “Remove Decoration” has been condensed into one “Decorate your Base” option, and adding and removing items is easier than ever before. My favorite change, though, is how you can interact with items you put in your Base. For example, if you put a lamp in your Secret Base, you can turn the lights off to simulate a Flash cave. For fun, I tried out an item called the Boppoyama, which is apparently a punching bag. Inspecting it took me to a mini-game to try to press A as much as possible in a limited period of time, and this score is kept for when others explore my Secret Base.

Also, Secret Bases are as expensive as ever to furnish. Get ready to be broke.

If you’d rather take on a more Pokémon-focused challenge, you could always try to catch some National Dex Pokémon. The National Dex is actually unlocked before you defeat the Elite Four, and so you can buff your team up with a whole range of Pokémon before you take on the ultimate challenge. Since Hoenn doesn’t have any new areas unlocked to explore, all of these new Pokémon appear in old routes—every single one of them. With new Pokémon spread through so wide an area, it can take many an hour to find them all. I feel it keeps the areas fresh, and it gives me another excuse to return to areas that I’d loved traveling through.

With the addition of Soar, you can also hunt down Legendaries and Mirage spots, both of which change daily. These new “uncharted” islands are marked by a red light, and I can only wonder how many different variations of Mirage Islands there are. There are also symbol encounters with birds (read: Flying Pokemon) when you’re airborne.

Once you’ve found your ideal team, you can also take up Norman’s (the main character’s father) offer to head to Battle Resort, home of the Battle Maison. The moment you land on the Resort, though, you are confronted by one of the Teams. Apparently both leaders will be taking part, and later you find out that Steven is also moonlighting here. There are also some powerful trainers here, as well as small story tidbits here that fascinated me, but these are better discovered yourself. The Maison itself runs like it did in Kalos. While it’s a shame that the Battle Frontier wasn’t kept, the game sets the Maison up story-wise as a sort of prototype for the Frontier. I also wonder if there is some sort of story to be had here, since Wally had traveled here with you as well.

I really liked how these optional routes were given more attention. Contests gained a storyline, while the Battle Maison actually has story significance and history on top of adding competitive battling to a remake of Ruby and Sapphire, where it didn’t exist. Even Secret Bases got their own character to give them some context in Hoenn, even if most of their functionality seems to be multiplayer. As you can probably tell, there is still a lot I have to do before I can count the game fully complete, and I’m already very happy that there is more to do than I expected after I’d finally defeated the Elite Four.

That said, while we’re on the subject of late-game content, don’t forget about Episode Delta. We’ll cover that next time for those that want to read about it.

Food for Thought:

1. That Magikarp in the Tough Contest has actually bested me twice… I’ve only been so humiliated in a Pokémon game once before.

2. There is also an added activity here reminiscent of the restaurants in Kalos in the form of the Food Court. Essentially, you pay for a meal, and as you wait for it to be finished, you try to finish battles in a set number of turns. Finishing battles fast, though, won’t help you since it’ll just cause another trainer to challenge you. I always enjoyed the restaurant battles (good for money), and I enjoyed my short foray trying to eat a sub in the Food Court, too. (It ended up being a little soggy.)

    That’s one tough Magikarp

  • MrTyrant

Im doing the contest right now and damn Lisia is very cute and well the things she says…gosh. Never expected to have a character like her. Im playing with male mc and well she gave me a very cool costume that I would love to use outside the contest, sadly is not possible.

Using the dressed Picachus make everything easier in the contest lol They even “casualised” those ones lol

    • http://terracannon876.livejournal.com Laura

If you use different types, you can see different special moves though. Those are always fun.

      • Ben Sylvia

So the special talent things that happen after the audience gets five stars are different depending on the type of Pokemon? I suppose a video with all of those will be on youtube before Monday. XD

        • http://terracannon876.livejournal.com Laura

Different depending on type. A grass will have a different one than a ground. Etc. You’ll probably see a few different from opponents, even.

  • Shippoyasha

I’m actually really glad that the secret base is expensive to improve on. Because having millions in Pokemon Dollars is kind of depressing, with nothing to spend it on.

    • http://mewisthebest.deviantart.com/ AnotherDeadArtist

I’m instantly reminded of Platinum’s Villa.

I loved that option to death.

Never have I spent so much time and pokedollars on one thing before. And there was no easy way to farm except for doing elite 4 runs with an amulet coin.

  • CptPokerface

If there was one thing I was definitely appreciative of in Ruby/Sapphire was the fact that the safari zone came back. Bug catching contests in gold and silver just didn’t cut it for me, and it felt like such a slap in the face to make it all the way into Kanto, get to Fuscia City. .only to find it was closed.

    Ugh.

  • Adorabunny

    >I tried bluffing my way through one, and it ended horribly and this traumatized me, so I never tried again.

I think I used my starter because why not lol.

      • Adorabunny

        That’s cute.

Back then, I played it like normal, Milotic for Beauty and all that, but anyone who got a bit more in-depth with the Contest realize that anyone with the move “Ancient Power” can break the contest.

  • pokeroi

I remember I play the crap out of contests, and those berry-mixture things that I forgot the name. I also travel the region countless times to find the biggest secret base to put everything in.

    • andref

poffins if I remember the name right

      • http://terracannon876.livejournal.com Laura

If I have it right, Poffins are from DPPt while Pokeblocks are from RSE. Though I remember so little about DPPt so I might be off on that one. In ORAS they are known as Pokeblocks.

        • andref

You’re right, it is poffins in DPPt. I assumed it might have been the same in ORAS though what I know of it was from little of the anime I watched. I was burnt out after crystal and skipped gen 3

        • Codi Schumacher

poffins and pokeblock still both serve the same purpose to enhance contest stats when your pokemon eat them.

        • pokeroi

Yes pokeblocks! I was a pro for that

It’s amazing seeing all the visual improvements from the originals, and seeing how much more amazing areas look with the new systems.

Seeing Mauvile, the redesigned gyms, makes me sad Black2/White2 weren’t made for 3DS, the battle against Drayden would have looked boss actually being on top of the dragon statues. T.T

Can’t wait to see the route before Fortree City, if it actually looks like a rainforest now instead of a very lush route I keep wishing I could skip over. XD

    • CureMarine

It shouldn’t. This game really isn’t that great. It’s literally just R/S again with a few minor improvements and new graphics, a lot of handholding and much, much more linear. I’m surprised, I’ve enjoyed every other main Pokemon game up until now but I am finding almost no enjoyment in this.

      • HarakiriKami

Really? I like it more than the other games.

  • Mr_SP

    “boppoyama”

They didn’t translate that to “bop bag” or something?

    • Steven Higgins

It probably looks like a Hariyama, which would explain the name.

  • http://yaminoseigi.blogspot.com/ Yami no Seigi

Never did all of the contests back then so might give the contest a go this time. All i care about the game this time is the post game content which i heard ORAS slightly better than XY but still disappointing.

    • Guest

Main game completed in 7 hours, After content had decent story but otherwise same old boring crap that had been recycled over and over every game just in a different ‘package’.

The ‘social’ aspects of the games are retarded, it was not funny when none of my friends safari haDittos in it, had to go out of the way to find someone and nobody wanted me because my friendcode farted out brellooms, Oh give me a bloody break. I don’t even wanna start on the ridiculousness of global trade. Granted the safari issue was X & Y’s but even so why was I losing out because my Friend Code was shitty?

Gamefreak and Nintendo keep churning out more excuses on why they can’t come out a more complete Pokemon game for once.”each region has its own style!”Bull ***, if I were a true Pokemon trainer, I’d travel the bloody WORLD, not just a region.

Then again we can’t expect a 10 year old kid to travel the world alone… but the story in itself already doesn’t make sense. (because the template is the SAME for all the games so far. Kid meets professor soandso, gets ball, says bye to mom, travels region alone, takes out a criminal gang/empire alone, gets game title legendary, challenges champ, becomes champ, kicks rival’s ass, becomes the one and only, more legendary, hur, dur, hur. Oooo multiplay. The end.

      • Histirea

Since it’s significantly more accessible than 10 years ago, they really are relying on the multiplayer aspect of the game for post-game entertainment.

It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the return of the Battle Frontier would have made it much more fun and replayable for players not interested in battling online.

        • JeremyTMH

Isn’t it battle mansion now? Same thing I think.

          • Histirea

The Battle Maison is brought in from X & Y, but it doesn’t have even close to the same feel and variety that the Battle Frontier gave to Emerald.

The Battle Frontier was in a class of its own. It was like a second Pokémon League that you could challenge in any order.

To compare, the Battle Frontier is to Emerald what Dragonborn is to Skyrim.

          • JeremyTMH

Hmmm isn’t it Battle Resort that replaces the Tower then?

          • Codi Schumacher

no the battle frontier is like a more difficult set of gym leaders called frontier brains each has a frontier symbol you earn when you beat them and they have points you can use to cash in for items of different kinds. Also the battles had restictions and rules in each facility within the frontier.

          • http://terracannon876.livejournal.com Laura

Battle Frontier had 7 separate places. The Battle Tower ended up being the most popular, and it is the most similar (the same?) as the Battle Maison. The other places include Battle Factory, where you play entirely with rental Pokemon and the option to swap with your opponent’s after every battle; Battle Dome, a tournament; Battle Pike, where you choose a room to move on but every room has random effects; Battle Arena, which is kinda like contests in that it looks at how you battle; Battle Palace, in which the Pokemon fight on their own; and Battle Pyramid, which is like a mini-dungeon with limited items.

        • http://yaminoseigi.blogspot.com/ Yami no Seigi

i find Pokemon is one of those franchise that grew up with you, i wish GF would make a pokemon game that would appeal more to the older fans someday. “Pokemon fans grew old, Pokemon stays young” i find this is really true for someone who followed the series since Yellow

          • Attribule

The same applies to almost anything people grow up with. You’re no longer the child that the product is aimed at.

It’s like when people say, “X cartoon was better back in the day”. That isn’t a fact. The cartoon *seemed* better back then because you were young enough to truly enjoy it. As you get older your tastes change greatly, and sometimes entirely without you realizing it. The cartoon loses appeal because you grew out of the cartoon, not because the cartoon itself got worse.

The new generation of kids replaces the old generation of kids. Yes, Pokemon has a dedicated following that is getting older, but it has also replaced many of the old players with new, young players. I’d wager that the majority of the first generation of kids no longer plays Pokemon, and haven’t for years.

In this case, what do you actually expect from a Pokemon game to make it “appeal to an older audience” to begin with? Outside of a “more mature” story, I don’t see what they could possibly do. The game would still be the same at its core, which is simplistic. Pokemon designs would still be childish and colorful. This is a kid’s franchise at its core.

          • http://yaminoseigi.blogspot.com/ Yami no Seigi

    • JeremyTMH

There IS a new story, but aside from that it’s the same.

      • MrTyrant

And all the legendaries post games were they present in the original game?

        • JeremyTMH

The day Nintendo/Game Freak puts ALL Legendaries in ONE game is the day a meteor smashes into Earth turning us into space dust.

        • http://terracannon876.livejournal.com Laura

The original games only had Groudon/Kyogre, Rayquaza, Latios/Latias, and Regi3.

    • Steven Higgins

Every Pokemon game has more post content than X/Y except the Original Red/Green/Blue/ Yellow. But the amount of Post Game content here seems second only the Gold/ Silver.

You should have mentioned how you can turn your Secret Base into an unofficial Pokemon Gym.

      • http://terracannon876.livejournal.com Laura

Because of the heavy emphasis on multiplayer with Secret Bases, I couldn’t use any of them and play them for myself :(

      • triablos

The postgame in ORAS is second to GSC, emerald, HGSS, Platinum, BW2, probably even FRLG (which indroduced 7 new islands) and BW (which had the NE corner of unova).

        • Steven Higgins

Besides the Villa, what did Platinum have? And what was there to do in the Sevii Islands and NE Unova except wander aimlessly? This has an entire
post game story chapter and I’m willing to bet Mirage Spots are post game too.

          • triablos

Platinum had several story and environment changes like BW2, had the distortion world and redesigned and added the battle frontier.

Mirage spots are ways to catch legendaries. I will agree there are a lot of legends to catch but once they’re caught that’s it.

Those places had a lot to do, if you weren’t too busy wondering aimlessly that is.

But that’s okay, the game is awesome because there’s a maybe 2 hours (pushing it) of story as the delta episode! Which once you’re done with (caught deoxys and rayquaza) then you’ll probably never do again! Seriously, I like the whole delta episode thing. Its making my childhood dream of catching deoxys in space a reality. BUT it doesn’t excuse having less other stuff, especially the BF which was one of, if not the best thing to come out of Hoenn.

          • Steven Higgins

The distortion world wasn’t post game, you could access if before the Elite Four. And while Mirage spots may be one time things, only a certain number appear at a time and they change daily, so it’ll keep you busy for a while Plus, from what I’ve read, it’s not like you Soar into a storm cloud and battle a Legendary, it seems that the Mirage Spot is a small island that its home to that Legendary. And while the Battle Frontier missing is a shame, almost all Pokemon games have some kind of post-game battle establishment.

  • Bobby Jennings

Is there any other end-game content?

The greatness that are the secret bases in pokemon zeta can never be topped.

  • ShawnOtakuSomething

so far i’m enjoying oras a LOT more than x and y I was like a puppy waiting for his master when I was waiting in lone to pick it up

  • triablos

This remake is a disappointment compared to HGSS, which is worthy of being called the best pokemon game so far. Even FRLG had the whole sevii islands on top. Emerald probably has more content than ORAS because of the Battle Frontier alone. The endgame here is basically XY (aka nothing) with a bit more sprinkles.

    • HarakiriKami

Actually there’ is a lot to do post game here.

The battle frontier wasnt that much to begin with anyway. Just a bunch of battling.

We need more stuff like the Delta Episodes and you know, actually defending your pokemon league championship at one point.

Hell we’re finally getting to run our own gym with secret bases now after so long.

      • triablos

If thats what you call a lot to do then you were probably happy with XY postgame. A whole quest involving Looker, and the beloved battle maison.

You know the BF was like 7 challenging buildings each with their own gimmicks to change up the game and with their own leaders.

I will admit that having our own gyms is great, but thats something that most of us were coming to expect from the secret bases on top of other stuff.

        • HarakiriKami

No I wasnt happy with X and Y’s post game. There’s less stuff to do than in ORAS, HGSS or Platinum XD

          • triablos

Luckily it was the generation transition so it had new battle models and shininess going for it lol

    • sakanaとkoeda

Oh! I loved the Sevii Islands! There was something engaging about island hopping and discovering unique qualities on each.

    • Princess_Eevee9

HeartGold/SoulSilver were far from the best game. The only thing of worth the game provided was the Pokélathon and them following you around. The post-game was lacking despite you being able to fight the Kanto Gym Leaders and the Battle Frontier that Sinnoh made. Platinum and Black 2/White 2 added more to their storyline and created immerse post-game environments.

      • triablos

        “The post game was lacking”
I’m not sure how to respond

        • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

It was. Kanto is a huge wasteland and if you consider beating Red the post game then there’s nothing to do other than wait until trainers feel like rematching on specific days and hours, which is boring.

          • triablos

Kanto wasn’t really a wasteland though.

Red IS the post game. So are Kanto and the BF. Saying that there’s nothing to do after beating Red is like saying “wow, there’s nothing to do here after I’ve unlocked every achievement, seen every hidden object and 100%ed everything”. I wouldn’t put it like that, but you get my point hopefully. Basically, every game has to end at some point.

          • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

It was a wasteland, Kanto’s post game part didn’t felt so rewarding to me.

They left the entire wild Pokemon level and species almost the same as it was on FRLG, I heavily disliked that, even DP had more wild Pokemon variety post game on that small area and felt on par. Only thing you can resort to level up is fighting the trainers around that for some ilogical reason their Pokemon are leveled up on par with yours but the wild doesnt… k’. You can rematch trainers but the rematching system in HGSS sucks, you gotta guess or look up when and where trainers feel like rematching, which it’s inconvenient, it works but it’s inconvenient. They didn’t really improve that by a whole lot ever since GSC, in comparison to FRLG and DPPt’s Vs Seeker and AreaNav now in ORAS it’s really underwhelming. Gen V didn’t had a rematch system but at least the wild Pokemon are well implemented with double wild, high leveled pokemon battles.
I feel like I level up really slow in HGSS and sucks since you have to fight what’s probably the highest lv trainer of the whole Gen IV with wussy wild Pokemon and trainers.

I dunno but from my experience HGSS is definetely not the best and on my remake list it’s on rock bottom.

          • triablos

It seems to me that your issue isn’t the post game, but your need to level up. All your criticisms boil down to “I want exp quick”

          • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

The level cap is due to the post game so yeah, my problem is the post game.

          • Chris Wunsch

I beat kanto in an HOUR on my Crystal playthrough.

            Have a cookie?

    • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

For me ORAS was better than HGSS by quite a lot, the level cap doesn’t suck for instance and the champion is somewhat of a challenge than Lance. People say Diantha was the easiest CHampion, for me Lance will always be the biggest joke among champions.

      • ShawnOtakuSomething

        Gary was

        • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

While I didn’t particulary find him too hard, at least I had to switch Pokemon a couple of times and his theme is pure gold.

Lance? Use Gyarados and you’re good, you sweep the bastard, yaaay.

          • ShawnOtakuSomething

            and he was the boring..

          • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

            And a hypocrite asshole too!

Pokemon shouldn’t evolve early pfft, yaaay consistency!

      • triablos

I agree that there were levelling issues (well not really issues, the whole game was lower levelled for the sake of kanto), its not as bad as XY though, where I was like level 15 at gym 1 and around level 45 when I reached gym 2. Also, Pokemon isn’t known for difficulty so let’s be honest, it doesn’t really matter whether Wallace or Diantha or whoever are hard. Its also a matter of opinions and situations like you pointed out

        • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

X&Y’s problem at least can be solved by just switching the Exp.Share off, HGSS always felt mostly underwhelming.

Since I don’t care for competitive yeah, for me the level cap from start to very end do matter, how many species are available per game and how they are distributed also counts for me so yeah.

Yep, I really don’t care about people’s favoritism but when you stated HGSS being best remake pretty much as a fact yeah, can’t help but raise an objection there.

          • triablos

The level gap between gyms is small, but so are your own levels so its not really noticeable. Just because you aren’t in your level 80s (I don’t think I’ve reach 80 in any game unless by redoing the e4 on purpose) by the end of the game doesn’t mean its bad.

          • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

For me it is, again I feel the game is throwing me shit trainers and wild Pokemon to “stay on par”, it’s boring.

          • Zero Bahamut ZX

X/Y’s problem for me was there was nothing to do post game except for Masuda Method(which of course you could do before beating the game…)

          • http://gamgambit.tumblr.com/ One Winged Wanker ♢

I won’t deny that, X&Y do have a lot more to be picked on about post game content but quite honestly the post game isn’t really a deal breaker to me and hey, least X&Y got something veery short but veery sweet for post game sidestory.

Also online trades had me busy post Looker’s quest, I got lots of goodies by just searching at the GTS and finding good trades, actually filled my dex this way.

    • rik nijholt

OR/AS has much more entertaining content then Emerald in my opinion.

The Battle Frontier is fun, but most of the time it was just boring battles. The only battles I found fun were the battles against the Frontier Brain, which were pretty hard to reach I might add. And even then they could kick your a**. I’m not justifying the exclusion of it and I really wanted to have it in OR/AS. But I’ve noticed I can live without (tho many tears were shed)

In OR/AS, Soaring alone rivals the Battle Frontier. It’s not as much as the Battle Frontier, but It’s a load of fun. This game also has the most Legends of any Pokemon game.

Then you have the Contests, which are much more accessible this time around and has a storyline behind it that keeps you going. Secret Bases are also much more accessible this time around. It’s basically a mini Animal Crossing, and getting Secret Bases is super easy. Just click the “go online” button, check your Buzznav and you have an other 20-30 secret bases.

Which brings me to my next point, the whole Online happening. You can battle/trade online, which you couldn’t do in Emerald. Of course that’s because you didn’t have online play for Pokemon back then and you don’t have to enjoy competitive play. But that doesn’t matter, the fact Online is there adds to the Postgame, whether you like it or not (not wanting to sound rude here.)

The Delta Episode is one of the most lore heavy Postgame quest I’ve ever seen, and I love the lore.

And then you have the Battle Mansion, the replacement of the Battle Frontier. It does not make up for the lack of the Battle Frontier, but the Battle Mansion isn’t really that bad. The reason X/Y’s Postgame was bad was because it ONLY had the Battle Mansion, and nothing really notable next to that. With OR/AS, that Isn’t the case, as there is content next to the Battle Mansion.

The normal Battles in the Battle Mansion aren’t as boring as they were in the Battle Frontier because you can change the Music tracks. You can also streak battles, and stop at any time you like. Again, it doesn’t justify the lack of the Battle Frontier because the Battle Frontier had more diverse challenges and the Frontier Brains are MUCH more like able and epic then the Battle Chatelaines. But I’m happy they didn’t replace it with the old R/S Battle Tower, because that’s just a boring facility.

Finally, this game makes “catching them all’ much more accessible then ever before thanks to the Dexnav and the sneaking mechanic. You can actually finish the Pokedex with the combination of OR/AS and X/Y. I might even catch them all this time around!

OR/AS has an great updated Ingame, something R/S/E needed. And if you combine the fact that the Postgame is pretty accessible, this game surpassed Emerald as favorite Pokemon game for me. And it took 9 years for a Pokemon game to surpass Emerald (tho, most of the games came close. Most notably, B/W2.) The Battle Frontier will be missed, but this game definitly meet, or even exceeded my expectations. OR/AS is the best take on Hoenn by far for me.

      • triablos

Thanks for the detailed response. I agree that ORAS is definitely more fun to play than Emerald, but a lot of that comes from the fact that we’re comparing the latest Pokémon entry to a decade-old game. Its to be expected that it should have accessable online, contests, other small improvements and of course, more legends. I guess the game just didn’t live up to my expectations. I’m also getting pretty burned out. I’ve been playing since the original Red and Blue, and there’s only so many times I can play the same game (I beat emerald a lot of times) and catch the same legends over and over, but that’s just me.

One thing I really, really don’t get is the exclusion of the battle frontier. It leads me to 3 conclusions: a)Gamefreak are a bunch of lazy &@#£(&£&# b)They saved it to boost the content in Version Z/XY2 or c)Delta Emerald incoming. And I don’t like any of those.

        • rik nijholt

I don’t think it’s option A. Too much detail has been put into OR/AS.

Option B wouldn’t be fun. I don’t like it if one region takes content from the other. Then I will always live with the fact that they didn’t give us a full Hoenn remake just to boost the sales of an other region.

Option C would be such a cash grab.

No, If the Battle Frontier does make an return somehow, I want it to be in Hoenn. And I would like it to be a sequel.

Masuda stated he wants to end Gen 6 in an unexpected way. My idea would be the 2 region approach from G/S/C, but then with Kalos and Hoenn. There are so many hints in OR/AS that can lead to a sequel. 1 is of course the Battle Frontier project the NPCs talk about. But also in the Delta Episode *SPOILER ALERT*, Steven calls you via the Multi Nav, Something only available in Emerald. Then Steven proceeds to tell you it’s a “prototype” and that they “want to implement the feature in the future”.

There is also one blueprint at the Slateport City dock stating they want to use Kalos’ High-Speed rail technology for a Ship. Possibly a ship connecting the 2 regions.

So what I think is that maybe, just maybe we get Hoenn and Kalos sequels. But that’s just an Idea I have :).

          • triablos

I think its very optimistic to think of another 2 region game, but Gamefreak is unpredictable so who knows xD

Honestly through, I think its delta emerald incoming (which will piss me off to no end) or the next 6th gen game getting the cut content. I mean, they can’t honestly think they can get away with XY level content for the sequel. I’d rather the latter since I’ll be a new entry.

  • SlickRoach

I need to know, does this game have a move tutor(s)? Because I’d like to see all the new move tutor moves I could teach my Kalos Pokémon.

  • https://twitter.com/LLCoolOyd Lloyd

Decent post game; nothing amazing, though.

    • Zero Bahamut ZX

Better than X/Y’s though, I feel.

      • Ace Trainer Chris

Barely holds a candle to the amount of content HeartGold/SoulSilver had in total or the amount of post-game content Black 2/White 2 had.

        • Zero Bahamut ZX

          True indeed.

        • rik nijholt

BS, it does hold a candle to the both of them.

          • Ace Trainer Chris

X and Y had what? Looker, Battle Maison, Friend Safari, catch Zygarde, Mewtwo and Articuno/Zapdos/Moltres. That was it.

HG/SS? Go through Kanto, battle Red, get a Kanto and Hoenn starter, catch Groudon/Kyogre and Rayquaza and rebattle ALL 16 Gym Leaders and Elite Four who’ve received upgraded Pokémon.

B2/W2? Pokémon swarms appear, battle Alder, get an Eevee with a Hidden Ability, catch Cresselia, Heatran, Black/White Kyurem, Reshiram/Zekrom, Azelf, Uxie, Mesprit, Latios, Latias, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Regigigas and a Shiny Haxorous. You’ll also get a Shiny Dratini or Gible, battle N, finish the story behind Team Plasma including battling Colress, open up various Hidden Grottos, battle the former Gym Leaders of Striaton Gym, battle Cynthia, Hugh, Bianca and Cheren, as well as Elite Four rematches. Unova, Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Champion Leaders become available in the Pokémon World Tournament and finally the White Treehole/Black Tower.

That’s not even factoring in trying to complete the Dexes.

          • rik nijholt

Oh sorry….I thought you were talking about OR/AS XD.

  • Leonard Norwood Jr.

Post game was okay, although the shouldn’t opt out on Battle Frontiers and any ideas that will still keep us playing. The fact that you got a lot of Legendaries from 2nd gen to XY in this game is a bit staggering, this solves some problems of trying to get those kinds of pokemon. and once again the starters from 2nd gen to XY are there, except you have to go through the whole elite four and the champion a few more times. Every time you get a chance for another starter to raise. Other than that and the Delta Episodes, the post game keeps us a bit busy.

  • Heartlesswithaheart

I’m very disappointed in this. The Battle Frontier is my favourite part of Emerald and a large part of why I played SoulSilver as much as I did, so I was really looking forward to them remaking my favourite frontier. Since I’m not fond of Hoenn to begin with, looks like I’ll certainly be passing on this game. Thanks for detailing everything, though!

  • sakanaとkoeda

I’d like to see recurring in-game community events like festivals or sports marathons in their next installment.

  • Daniel Gulyas

Post game looks okay, but not like Emerald or Black 2. Really, the thing that bites is the lack of Battle Frontier. I can’t really call it the definitive Hoenn without it.

  • Yan Zhao

I wish this had that Pokemon tournament thing (Forgot name) they had in Black/White 2 where you can battle every former gym leaders and even be type-locked. That was awesome and needs to return :(

        IGN – Team Magma confirmed

  • http://greenygrass.myminicity.com/ TheBlackCrow

Perhaps leaving out the battle frontier, which many people evidently enjoyed, is more of a confirmation on Delta Emerald being confirmed? Just a bit of food for thought since nintendo try’s to do the extraordinary and not do 3rd installments anymore. Maybe this time they’ll do it since no ones fully expecting it? I’m sure that would make lots of people happy

    • Steelix343

There will be no delta emerald. Nintendo never remakes the third game in a sequence, eg. Crystal or Blue. The delta episode, in which you can get rayquaza makes up for that.

      • http://greenygrass.myminicity.com/ TheBlackCrow

In Ruby and Saphire, rayquaza was already obtainable. The delta episode was there for story purposes and making previously unobtainable pokemon in game, obtainable. Nintendo likes to do things out of the ordinary to shock their fans, and that’s exactly why I’m saying it would be possible. Is there any hard evidence that they don’t make the third games in a sequence? If there is, that’s the only way to completely rule Delta out.
