Potomac Arts Academy now provides a full range of private music instructors for you to choose from:

Senior Teaching Artists
• who have completed their formal education
• who possess extensive professional teaching experience


Teaching Artists

• who have completed their formal education
• who possess substantial professional teaching experience

Instructors
• who are select Graduate students (or equivalent)
• who are recommended specifically by their Professor /GMU School of Music


Junior Instructors
• who are select GMU Undergraduate students
• who are recommended specifically by their Professor/ GMU School of Music

Instructors are available for Piano, Voice, Strings, Brass, Woodwinds and more. While we highly recommend that very young students and/or beginner-level students start with Group Classes when possible, we do accept Private Lesson students of all ages (children, teens & adults). See Instructor List

Helpful Information About Private Lessons at Potomac

LESSON & SEMESTER DETAILS

Lessons are scheduled on a semester basis (Fall, Spring and Summer)
and are held once per week with 30/45/60 minute options.
Open hours: Monday – Thursday 11am – 8pm
Friday 11am – 7pm
Saturday 9am – 4pm
(Summer Hours Vary)

Private Lessons have Open Enrollment throughout the semester - however, time slots are filled on a first-come, first serve basis and as room space allows. You are encouraged to apply early!

FALL 2014 Semester Dates
September 2 - December 20
Makeup policy: 1 makeup lesson available

Total number of scheduled lessons is subject to teacher availability.
Specific Makeup Dates will be announced by the teacher.
SPRING 2015 Semester Dates
January 5 - June 19
Makeup policy: 2 makeup lessons available

Total number of scheduled lessons is subject to teacher availability.
Specific Makeup Dates will be announced by the teacher.
SUMMER 2015 Semester Dates
June 23 - August 15
(reduced open hours)
Makeup policy: No makeup lessons
*
Total number of scheduled lessons is subject to teacher availability.
*Pre-scheduled "skip dates" are allowed; minimum of 4 lessons required.


INSTRUCTOR RATES:

Senior Teaching Artist Rate Per Lesson:
Varies by instructor - please call to inquire.

Teaching Artist Rate Per Lesson:
60 min= $70     45 min= $58      30min= $45

Instructor Rate Per Lesson:
60 min= $60     45 min= $50      30min= $40

Junior Instructor Rate Per Lesson:
60 min= $55      45 min= $45     30min= $35

PAYMENT OPTIONS

You can pay in FULL for the semester
- OR -
a monthly payment plan option is available when registering - please note that a $15 payment plan surcharge for the semester will be added.

Please note: A $3 processing fee is added to ALL registration transactions

RECITALS

All Private Lesson students are encouraged to participate in our Fall and Spring Recitals which take place in the de Laski Performing Arts Building on the GMU campus. Students will have the opportunity to perform in a professional venue with their family and friends in attendance.
This event is free and open to the public.

FALL 2014 Recital Dates: Saturday & Sunday, December 13 & 14
SPRING 2015 Recital Dates: Saturday & Sunday, May 9 & 10

LOCATION

Potomac buildingLessons scheduled Monday–Friday take place at the Potomac Arts Academy building on Chain Bridge Rd. Saturday lessons take place on the GMU campus in the Performing Arts Building practice rooms.
We do NOT send instructors into homes for private lessons.

CHAMBER ENSEMBLE & MUSIC THEORY OPPORTUNITIES

Chamber MusicCHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLES Ages: All Ages
CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR STRINGS AND PIANO.
Potomac Arts Academy is excited to offer Chamber Music Ensembles (trios and quartets) - open to Potomac students AND outside students!

Music TheoryMUSIC THEORY FOR TEENS Ages: 13 to 18 yrs
Music Theory is designed to give the more advanced student an opportunity to understand how music functions and build efficient learning practices.

MUSIC FUNDAMENTALS FOR KIDS Ages: 9 to 12 yrs
Music Fundamentals is designed as an introductory course in sight-singing and music theory.

Does Potomac offer scholarships for Private Lessons?
MusicLinkWe do NOT have scholarships for private lessons available at this time. However, if you are unable to afford private lessons for your child, we know an organization that may be able to help! Please visit the MusicLink Foundation website, directed by GMU Faculty Joanne Haroutounian, for more information.
