The APN Competency program is designed to highlight APN Partners who have demonstrated technical proficiency and proven customer success in specialized solution areas. Attaining an APN Competency allows partners to differentiate themselves to customers by showcasing expertise in a specific solution area.
Partners can qualify for one or more APN Competency by having a strong overall AWS practice, showcasing customer success, and demonstrating technical readiness within the Competency.

In addition to the benefits you receive as an APN member, partners that qualify for APN Competencies will receive a number of valuable benefits, which may include:
- Public designation on AWS Website and AWS Partner Directory
- Use of APN Competency Logo in marketing tools
- Preferred access to GTM funding
- Selective eligibility for inclusion in future AWS announcements regarding APN Competencies
- Selective eligibility for inclusion in APN Partner spotlights (quotes, testimonials, videos, etc.)
- Selective eligibility to customer opportunities
- Preferred access to AWS Private Betas
- Preferred access to AWS Roadmap briefings from AWS Service Teams
- Selective eligibility for APN Competency subject matter webinars
- Preferred access to Market Development Funds

In order to apply for APN Competencies, partners must meet program prerequisites listed above. Follow the steps below to ensure your firm's Partner Scorecard is up-to-date.
APN Tier (Standard or Advanced): To Upgrade your firm’s APN membership to Standard or Advanced, follow the steps below:
- Step #1: Log in to the APN Portal
- Step #2: Click on "View Partner Scorecard" from left navigation
- Step #3: Submit APN Consulting Partner compliance details
- Step #4: Click "Apply to Upgrade"

AWS Customer References (≥ 3 within Competency): Competency Customer References are pulled from the Partner Scorecard. These references can either be public (such as a case study, whitepaper, or customer quote) or non-public (a customer who can confirm a given project happened). To submit Customer References, follow the below steps:
- Step #1: Log in to the APN Portal
- Step #2: Click “View Partner Scorecard” from left navigation
- Step #3: Click “AWS Customer References”
- Step #4: Add project details and click “Submit”

AWS Trainings (≥ 4 Staff): APN Partners receive discounts on AWS Instructor-Led Training by registering through the APN Portal*. Follow the steps below to sign up for courses near you:
- Step #1: Log in to the APN Portal
- Step #2: Click on the "Training" tab
- Step #3: Select course and register

Once your firm has met Competency prerequisites, follow the steps below to submit your APN Competency application:
Apply for APN Competencies:
- Step #1: Log in to the APN Portal
- Step #2: Click "View Partner Scorecard" from left navigation
- Step #3: Click “Apply for APN Competencies”
- Step #4: Select the Competency you wish to apply for
- Step #5: Complete Competency Application
As part of the Competency Application, you will be requested to provide details about your solutions and customer deployments related to the Competency.
