Trivia
Gwyneth Paltrow starred in The Royal Tenenbaums, in which her love interest/non-blood brother's pet falcon was named Mordecai, which sounds like Mortdecai.

I saw Mortdecai at the UK Premiere a few nights ago after walking the red carpet, and I'm going to put my points across straight-up. I greatly respect Johnny Depp and I've loved some of his past work. He's easily one of the biggest and best actors of our time. But unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of Mortdecai, it just wasn't very funny. I did like the character he played, however. He works so well in these types of films and he definitely holds a strong performance as Mortdecai, but I'm blaming the script. Some scenes were quite humorous but there wasn't enough to keep me entertained. I was actually quite bored of the script and story by about 45 minutes in and was waiting for the film to end. Saying that, the score by Geoff Zanelli was a really nice touch, I've been listening to it constantly since seeing the film. Although I didn't enjoy the film, the seats we had were terrible as the screen was huge and we were on the bottom corner so it was all curved. Maybe that affected my thoughts. The seats were great for when the director and cast came up to introduce us to the film, though. I will have to re-watch it when the Blu-ray releases in the next few months and see if that makes a difference.
