Mega Evolution

A powerful new mechanic has been revealed for Pokémon X & Y: Mega Evolution! Mega Evolution is a form of evolution that several Pokémon are able to undergo through a special evolution method involving objects called Mega Stones, which transforms them into their "Mega" form. The player also needs to wear the Mega Ring, obtainable in some point in the game, to allow Mega Evolution to occur.

Mega Stones vary based on the Pokémon species, with the Blazikenite being used to Mega Evolve Blaziken into Mega Blaziken and the Lucarionite Mega Evolving Lucario into Mega Lucario. These held items induce a temporary evolution that lasts for the duration of the battle, increasing the Pokémon's stats, granting a different ability, and even potentially changing the Pokémon's type. Whether the Mega Stone is consumed after its use in the battle is presently unknown.

The Shalour City Gym Leader, Korrina, may hold the key to Mega Evolution, and the Tower of Mastery within Shalour City is said to have a connection to Mega Evolution.
