Summary

Curse is seeking an Executive Director of HR to provide HR leadership across Curse's existing and future offices. This position will be responsible for the well being and professional development of Curse's staff, including talent management, recruiting, performance management, organizational development, leadership development and employee relations. This position will also provide HR counsel to the executives and management. We are looking for someone who is exceptionally imaginative, flexible, collaborative, and truly excited about our people and our mission - to be the #1 media resource for gamers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of HR initiatives and operations, planning, budgeting, and measurement of results
  • Lead the development and implementation of human resources policies, programs, and practices including: recruitment, employee relations, compensation, stock options, training and development, organizational development and benefits
  • Provide guidance and support at all management levels to ensure consistent and sound human resources management and adherence to internal policies
  • Earn credibility; exercise sound judgment; communicate rationale for decision making or recommendations to multiple stakeholders
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and non-management employees to improve employee satisfaction (issues resolution, professional development, benefits, etc.)
  • Serve as an expert resource to employees in all areas of Human Resources, i.e. compensation, benefits, stock options, employee relations, recruitment, training and development and organizational development
  • Analyze situations and conduct research to resolve moderately complex HR problems
  • Develop and present training sessions as needed
  • Facilitate meetings and coherently present HR information such as employee survey results, performance management requirements, etc.
  • Maintain compliance with all local, state and federal employment laws and regulations
  • Evaluate reports and metrics in relation to department goals; develop action plans to address shortfalls and gaps
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
  • Ensure confidentiality of all information
  • Lead recruitment and retention efforts
  • Contribute to performance appraisal process
  • Manage staffing, training and performance evaluations to develop and improve staff
  • Develop and engage in team building activities
  • Develop opportunities for training and professional development for Curse's staff
  • Maintain measures of employee satisfaction and develop programs and opportunities to improve quality of work-life
  • Liaise between staff and upper management
  • Identify new development opportunities for the short to medium term
  • Initiate timely, proactive actions to gain improvements and create or enable growth in business results
  • Define a clear vision for self and others and ensure that the growth message is understood by team
  • Challenge complacency wherever it exists to remove barriers to change

Education and Experience

  • The successful candidate will be an experienced Human Resource Leader with ~10+ years of experience working at both a strategic and executional level, and ideally in a mix of high-tech or digital media companies – startup to SMB.
  • The Human Resources Executive Director should have a BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. MS/MA in related field or HR Management Certification/PHR/SPHR preferred.
  • HR Expertise: Strong command of HR regulations, laws and requirements.
  • Entrepreneurial experience, exposure to high growth, mid-sized enterprises, experience supporting building digital media teams and technology are all strong plusses.
