The Buzz: If you didn't grow up with a stuffed Paddington bear wedged under your arm, this seemingly note-perfect movie translation of Michael Bond's series of children's books should serve as a proper introduction to the lovable character. The were a few slight bumps along the road here: the initial trailer gave some people the CGI creeps; Colin Firth, who was never a good fit to voice Paddington, was replaced by Ben Whishaw; and the movie first earned a PG rating in the UK, where it went on to make nearly $50 million at the box office. Next up for the bear: get US audiences to fall in love with him.
The Wedding Ringer (2015)- Comedy
A shy young groom needs to impress his in-laws, so he turns to a best-man-for-hire to help him out.

The Buzz: Even though he now knows exactly how certain Sony execs feel about him, Kevin Hart maintains his career focus by promoting his latest movie with abandon, right down to his stumbly appearance at the Golden Globes alongside Salma Hayek. The other spotlight here is shining on "The Big Bang Theory"'s Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting as she tests her big-screen appeal; I hope a strong comedy script with a starring/co-starring role is in her hands because she deserves movie stardom as well.
Blackhat (2015)- Action | Crime | Drama | Mystery | Thriller
A furloughed convict and his American and Chinese partners hunt a high-level cybercrime network from Chicago to Los Angeles to Hong Kong to Jakarta.
Director:Michael Mann |

The Buzz: The timing feels right for a Michael Mann movie, especially one focused on a matter that took down a global mega-corporation at the end of 2014. We imagine there was plenty in neophyte screenwriter Morgan Davis Foehl's script to get Mann behind it, and we're keeping an eye on this test of Chris Hemsworth's non-Marvel potency. If adult men are engaged by the story and its action, Blackhat could be a surprise success both in the US and abroad.
Still Alice (2014) - [Limited]- Drama
Alice Howland, happily married with three grown children, is a renowned linguistics professor who starts to forget words. When she receives a devastating diagnosis, Alice and her family find their bonds tested.

The Buzz: Julianne Moore's Golden Globe victory positions her for her first-ever Oscar win, too -- she's been nominated four times previously, but this is no case of honoring someone who is overdue for an award. Over the second half of 2014, we read many a review acknowledging this performance as one of Moore's greatest, which is something when you consider her body of work. This is a profile-raising project for everyone involved, especially for Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, the writer/director duo who made inroads with Quinceanera several years ago. Ditto for Kristen Stewart, as she continues to pick roles that help redefine her for audiences.
Spare Parts (2015)- Drama
Four Hispanic high school students form a robotics club. With no experience, 800 bucks, used car parts and a dream, this rag tag team goes up against the country's reigning robotics champion, MIT.
Director:Sean McNamara |

The Buzz: Soul Surfer director Sean McNamara returns to the spotlight with another inspirational drama from the savvy and focused distributor Pantelion Films, who are getting quite successful with their releases, such as last year's Instructions Not Included.
Match (2014) - [Limited]- Comedy | Drama | Family
As a Juilliard professor is interviewed by a woman and her husband for her dissertation on the history of dance in 1960's New York, it becomes increasingly clear that there are ulterior motives to the couple's visit.
Director:Stephen Belber |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: The hooky trailer for Stephen Belber's follow-up to the forgettable Management is the kind of New York story that recalls some of the great indie movies that were set and made in that city in the 90s. We can't quite pin down the sexuality of Patrick Stewart's character, which adds to the movie's overall allure.
Little Accidents (2014) - [Limited]- Drama
In a small American town still living in the shadow of a terrible coal mine accident, the disappearance of a teenage boy draws together a surviving miner, the lonely wife of a mine executive, and a local boy in a web of secrets.
Director:Sara Colangelo |

The Buzz: Having Elizabeth Banks as your lead actress is one way to help distinguish your small-town-drama-where-things-go-bad-for-a-handful-of-characters movie, because there's been an uptick in the number of soundalike projects since Winter's Bone.
Son of a Gun (2014) - [LA/NY]- Action | Crime | Drama
JR busts out of prison with Brendan Lynch, Australia's most notorious criminal, and joins Lynch's gang for a gold heist that soon pits the two men against one another.
Director:Julius Avery |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Australia-set, character-driven, crime-dramas have staked out a settlement in the indie-film scene, and we hear writer/director Julius Avery's entry might be the popcorniest of them all. Some reviewers have loved the movie's fulfillment of genre requirements, while others have wondered what drew talent like Ewan McGregor to the project.
