According to Ryan Seacrest, American Idol will follow in the footsteps of Dancing with the Stars and eliminate its results show this season. The show will run two nights a week throughout the auditions and preliminary rounds, but once the top ten contestants have been selected, it will move to a single night format, with performances and the announcement of the prior week's results combined into a single episode. Seacrest revealed this format change to The Hollywood Reporter during an interview this weekend. While the singing competition's ratings have declined dramatically from its heyday, it's still one of FOX's strongest shows. Given the network's ratings woes on Thursdays this season, it's a surprising move. Most of last season's results shows earned a 1.5-1.8 adults 18-49 rating, far better than what Gracepoint averaged in the 9PM time period this fall.
