Bill Cosby: NBC Under Pressure as Another Woman Accuses Comedian of Rape

4 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

NBC is under mounting pressure to act in regards to the sitcom it is developing with Bill Cosby amid allegations of rape leveled at the comedian by multiple women.

NBC would not comment on the status of the untitled project, but few believe that it has a chance of moving forward in light of new statements by two women who claim they were sexually assaulted by Cosby decades ago. Cosby’s lawyer has denied the claim, calling them “discredited allegations.”

With that denial and no legal charges pending against Cosby, the situation presents a judgment-call dilemma for NBC. The comedian has long been associated with the network, and was a cornerstone of its success in the 1980s with his domestic comedy “The Cosby Show.”

But given the disturbing nature of the allegations, it’s nearly impossible to imagine the network producing and marketing a show featuring the 77-year-old comedian’s trademark avuncular humor. »

HBO orders star-studded 'Westworld' to series

2 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

HBO has picked up its star-studded "Westworld" pilot to series, an entirely unsurprising development given the creative talent on both sides of the camera.  "Inspired by" the 1973 film from writer-director Michael Crichton, HBO's "Westworld" was written and directed by "Person of Interest" creator Jonathan Nolan, co-written by Lisa Joy and will be executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and Jerry Weintraub. The deceptively simple logline for the one-hour says, "Westworld is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin." The original, of course, focused on an American West-themed amusement park sometime in the near future. The park is populated by androids programmed to serve and entertain the guests. The androids begin going haywire due to a mechanical virus of some sort and robot-on-human violence ensues.  Back in July at the Television Critics Association press tour, HBO's Michael Lombardo shied away from direct comparisons between the properties. »

Jaden and Willow Smith's Insane Nyt Interview: What We Learned

21 minutes ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

I don't know what makes me more uncomfortable: the theories and philosophies of Jaden and Willow Smith, who were just profiled in a cryptic New York Times interview, or the fact that The New York Times indulged the theories and philosophies of Jaden and Willow Smith with an interview. Either way, the interview exists, and it is puzzling, surprising, and ultimately thrilling. We've excerpted its best and most surreal moments and summed up what lessons we've learned from the "Karate Kid" remake star and "Whip My Hair" songstress.   1. Literature recommendations Interviewer: What have you been reading? Willow: Quantum physics. Osho. Jaden: “The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life” and ancient texts; things that can’t be pre-dated.' Lesson: "The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life" actually came out in 1999. So, indeed, nothing predates Jaden's favorite ancient text -- except the Persian Empire, the conquests of Napoleon, and the TV series "Coach. »

'Mike & Molly' takes over for 'The Millers' in December

50 minutes ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The nice thing about having an established show on the bench for midseason is that you can use it to fill a scheduling hole with only limited promotion. Just days after confirming the somewhat abrupt cancellation of "The Millers," CBS has scheduled a December premiere for the Emmy-winning comedy "Mike & Molly." "Mike & Molly," which continues to star Billy Gardell and Melissa McCarthy, will premiere its fifth season on December 8 at 8:30 p.m., sandwiched between new episodes of "2 Broke Girls" and "Scorpion." Much of the promotional push for the new season will be done the previous week, as CBS has set a four-episode "Mike & Molly" mini-marathon for December 1, airing from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. followed by a "Scorpion" repeat. "The Millers," which received its cancellation notice on Friday afternoon, will air its last episode tonight (November 17). The second year comedy was shuffled from a protected Thursday slot to Monday nights and, »

CBS Slots ‘Mike & Molly’ to Replace ‘The Millers’ on Mondays

52 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

In a bid to bolster its Monday lineup — and provide a stronger lead-in for rookie drama “Scorpion” — CBS has slotted the fifth season of “Mike & Molly” for the night starting Dec. 8.

“Mike & Molly,” which had aired in Monday’s 9 o’clock hour in its first four seasons, will take over the 8:30 p.m. timeslot currently occupied by “The Millers.” CBS pulled the plug on “Millers” last week, with the second-year show airing tonight and next week before disappearing.

The move is not a surprise, as CBS had a full 22-episode season order of “Mike & Molly” and was expected to get it on the air sooner rather than later. “Mike” was also on the bench at the start of last season, and then summoned to the Monday lineup in November after “We Are Men” was axed after just two airings.

“Scorpion” remains a solid performer for CBS, but has fallen »
