Rupert Blakely

Image Rupert Mitchum Blakely, born November 11th, 1885 in Lamar, AR, was a professional baseball played from 1908-1910.

Biography

Rupert was the son of Thomas B. Blakely, a physician in Coal Hill, AR.

In 1909, Blakely was named captain of the University of Memphis baseball team. However, Blakely's eligibility to play was questioned because of his professional employment in 1908 with the Hot Springs Vaporites and Little Rock Travelers. In response, it was claimed that the 1908 player was Rupert's brother Bernard (2). However, this was not true and Rupert most likely actually was ineligible to play (4).

Blakely later became a physician and lived in Little Rock, AR. He died there in September, 1976.
