Fired Chemistry Teacher Charged with Assault

A former Denver chemistry teacher has been charged with assault in the wake of an accident that left four students burned. Daniel Powell, 22, "has been served with a summons charging him with four counts of third-degree assault, a Class 1 misdemeanor," Lynn Kimbrough, communications director at the district attorney's office, told the Associated Press. The young teacher was conducting a lab experiment involving methanol on Sept. 15, when a fire erupted, burning four students, one severely. Powell was fired in the wake of the accident. Three students have returned to classes, while one, who was not identified, is still on the mend. »
