Floyd Gardner

Floyd "Jelly" Gardner, born September 27th, 1895 in Russellville, AR, was a Negro League baseball player from 1917-1933.

Biography

Gardner was the son of Alex and Josie Gardner. Among his earliest professional engagements was with the Longview Giants and the Texas All-Stars. He later signed with the Chicago American Giants and spent most of his long career there. He was known as a fierce competitor with an equally fierce personality.

Gardner died March 28th, 1977 in Chicago, IL. In 2006, he was nominated for the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Special Negro Leagues Committee.
