About Kish Free Zone Organization

 

This organization is in charge of handling the infrastructure affairs, development and economic growth, creating job opportunities, attracting local and foreign investors, regulating the good and labor market, maintaining presence in the global markets for the purpose of promoting non-oil exports, preparing the preliminaries for the manufacture of industrial goods, establishing convertible industries and ultimately utilizing the Island’s tourist potentials. 
The organizational chart of the KFZO includes, the General Assembly, Board of Directors, Managing Director, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Legal Inspectors. The General Assembly is in charge of drawing up the general objectives of the region such as establishment or dissolution of affiliated companies and institutions, drafting and amendment of Articles of Association, maintaining supervision on the performance of the Organization, assignment or dismissal of the members of the Board and Managing Director as well as levying taxes and duties on individuals and institutions residing on the Island. A three man Board of Directors administers the Kish Free Zone Organization. The Board has been granted full legal authority for action in the areas mentioned above.
 
The Board of Directors is also in charge of determining various applications for the free zone’s properties, sale or transfer of national resources in compliance with the executive laws and by-laws approved by the General Assembly.

The Managing Director of KFZO chairs the Board of Directors. The president assigns him for an extendable period of three years. The Managing Director enjoys full authority to put into effect the ratifications of the Board of Directors and represents the Organization before the third parties. He is also responsible for the faithful performance of all the current affairs of the Free Zone and protects the rights, interests and assets of KFZO.

 

 

 

Sub-divisions and Affiliates of KFZO

 

During the early years of its operation, KFZO initiated to establish a number of companies and institutes in an attempt to speed up materialization of the objectives stipulated in the Kish Comprehensive Plan. These companies and institutions are not intended to magnify the role of KFZO as a state-run authority; rather, they serve as the Organization’s executive arms and are assigned to perform specific tasks as the case may require.
The Companies and institutes affiliated to KFZO include:
 

  • Kish Airline Company

  • Kish Urban Development and Services Company

  • Kish Development & Management of Port & Airport Company

  • Kish Institute of Science and Technology

  • Kish Investment and Development Company

  • Kish  Free Zone Sports and Recreation Institute

  • Kish University

  • Kish Water and Power Company

  • Kish Hospital

  • Kish International Airport

  • Kish Welfare & Fund Institute

  • Kish Information & Communication Technology Company

 

Kish Free Zone General Objectives

 

Host countries establish free zones primarily to create jobs, boost hard currency earnings, attract foreign investment, and promote exports.

Indirect advantages attached to the establishment of free zones include; higher technical skills, transfer of technology and access to international markets.

Such objectives will activate business and trade in the free zones creating many job opportunities in the region. Transfer of technology into the free zones will improve technical skills in the host country.

The following objectives are pursued by the KFZO:
 
 

  • Utilizing Kish Island’s superb location and potentials for the development of the whole region.
     
  • Attracting local and foreign investments for the purpose of earning local and foreign currencies and laying the foundations for a dynamic economy in the region.
     
  • Creating job opportunities and wiping depravity off the region.
     
  • Setting up a base for the promotion of exports and re-exports.
     
  • Transfer of modern technology into the region and having access to occupational and technical skills.
     
  • Maintaining presence in the world markets through promotion of international trade in the region.
