NEW DELHI: The murder probe of the 25-year-old woman who was killed by her husband has revealed a heinous and well-hatched plot to make it an almost perfect murder. It has come to the fore that Saima had reportedly told her husband about her love affair before marriage and that she had got pregnant. This irked her husband, Fareed, who often beat her up.
Fareed subsequently detached himself from Saima and started seeing other women. Fareed also stopped paying for Saima's expensive clothes and jewellery, which led to frequent fights between the couple.
Finally, inspired by a popular crime show, he planned to kill her. Using the internet and police probe shown in a TV soap, he carefully formed the plan. First, he created a perfect alibi by going to his in-laws' place on the night of murder (Friday) and decided to sneak out at night. He made sure not to use his phone once he was in his home area (Chandni Mahal) as he had seen several criminals being nabbed due to this. Thirdly, he made sure to take autos to his house both times and be visible in CCTVs of the Metro station the next morning.
On Friday night, he reached Old Delhi around 9.30pm and left the auto near Delight Cinema. Once at home, he picked up a tawa (girdle) and attacked his wife after picking up an argument. He hit her on the head and other parts of the body around 12 times, then picked up the kitchen knife and stabbed her a dozen times.
The next morning he returned home and cried mourning his wife's brutal murder. Addl CP (central) Alok Kumar formed a special team led by inspector Anil Sharma to crack the case. Fareed cooked up a robbery bid and complained of Rs 1.5 lakh having gone missing. Cops first scanned around a lakh phone numbers of the area but Fareed did not figure in them. However, inspector Sharma found out that he had been in constant touch with his wife before the murder unlike other days.
When asked why he went to his in-laws' house unusually he said he had to return Rs 50,000. However, he had had no such discussions there. The cops also found some faint bloodstains on his clothes and hands.
After interrogation of around seven hours, Fareed broke down and confessed to the crime. Police have found the murder weapons and sent Fareed to Tihar Jail. Their son is with Saima's parents.
