Piyush Pramod Chawla Bio

Piyush Chawla came into the spotlight during the 2005-06 Challenger Trophy when, playing for India B in the final against India Seniors, he got the big wickets of Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni. Although his team lost the match, Chawla had grabbed enough attention for him to be selected in the national team.

Selected in the squad for the tour to Ireland and England in 2007, Chawla started off well with three wickets in three consecutive matches and troubled Kevin Pietersen in the series with his variations. Over a period of time, inconsistency crept into Chawla’s game and he drifted in and out of the side.

He was a surprise inclusion in the 2011 World Cup but was expensive in the matches against England and Ireland. Despite a string of poor performances, Chawla featured in the fourth Test against England in Nagpur in 2012. Although his performances in the national team are not much to speak about, he has performed consistently for the Kings XI Punjab team in the IPL. Chawla was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders as spin partner to Sunil Narine at the 2014 IPL auction.
