HFEA Strategy
This month we publish the HFEA Strategy 2014-17. The Strategy sets out our vision for the next three years and how we will achieve it.
We have worked with patients, clinic staff and others over the past few months to develop our new strategy. The process included a survey-based consultation, meetings with stakeholder groups, focus groups with patients and members of the public, and a particular focus on the strategy at the HFEA conference in February 2014.
The Authority’s key proposition, that patients and the quality of care they receive should be at the centre of the HFEA’s concern, has been very positively received. That’s been the case both those that work within the sector, and those who have experience of it by virtue of being patients, donors or donor-conceived people.
We got over 100 responses to our online survey on our strategic priorities, most of which were from patients and people working in the fertility sector. We also received 62 hand-written equivalents of the online survey, which were handed in by delegates who attended our conference in February.
In light of the feedback obtained, the Authority considered its aspirations for the HFEA over the next few years, the broad ways in which these aspirations could be met, and how the different elements of the strategy should be delivered.
We have considered how the HFEA itself could and should develop over the next three years, changes to the fertility sector, its users, and society itself and how we can best serve the present and future interests of patients (of all kinds), clinics, donors, donor-conceived people and all of our other stakeholders.
Our vision is for high quality care for everyone affected by assisted reproduction. We look forward to working with you to making that vision a reality.
Information for Quality consultation
Since the start of the year, the HFEA has been working with stakeholders to review the way we collect, publish and communicate information. An Advisory Group, and subsequently Expert Groups, have been developing proposals for change, including:
- Simplifying the presentation of Choose a Fertility Clinic so that users find it easier to use information to make choices about their fertility treatment
- Considering how, and what type of, patient experience information could be captured and shared
- Understanding what specific types of information our various stakeholders want to be able to access from the HFEA
In October we will be launching a consultation to hear your views on these plans.
As a precursor to this consultation we are also carrying out a website survey to review the way you access the site and improve the information we provide. Please complete our online survey.
