Information & Advice

Boots Repeat Prescription Service

If you have a repeat NHS prescription for a long-term condition, our online Repeat Prescription Service could help you manage your medicines and save you time.

Online NHS Prescriptions

If you use our online service, there is less running from the doctor's surgery to the pharmacy organising prescriptions, and we can arrange for your medicines to be ready and waiting at your local Boots pharmacy* or you can arrange home delivery**.

If you choose to collect your medicines from your local Boots pharmacy, this service is completely free. If you prefer, your medicines can be sent to your home address, but postal charges may apply. We will text or email you so you know when your medicines are ready to be picked up, or that they have been posted

We also know that it's easy to lose track of when you last reviewed things with your doctor, so we can also let you know when your doctor would like to see you for a review.

How does it work?

It is simple to start using the online Boots Repeat Prescription Service. If you are an existing Boots.com customer you will be asked to log in to your account. If not, you will be asked to register for an account, which will take just a few seconds. After filling in a simple online form, you will then:

*payment will be made at this point if applicable

Once you join, you can collect your prescription from any of our participating pharmacies (subject to stock availability). So, if you're away on holiday for example, just let us know and we can deliver your prescription to a convenient Boots store.

You can also order medicines that you don't use regularly, although we are committed to reducing medicines waste, so would ask you to only order medicines that you need at any particular point in time.

Of course, if you don't want to use our online ordering service but want the benefits of our Free Repeat Prescription service, just ask in any Boots Pharmacy and they can arrange to set this up for you. Find out more about how this works below, in the section entitled "I want to go into a Boots pharmacy for my Repeat Prescriptions rather than use the online service"

Is my personal and prescription information secure?

We will only ask you for the essential information we need to collect and dispense your prescription. The prescription details you enter are stored securely on our systems and can only be viewed by Boots UK pharmacy staff.

Why do I have to pay for home delivery of my medicines when I qualify for free prescriptions?

Whether you pay for your prescriptions or have free prescriptions, we have to send your medicines to you in secure, confidential packaging and pay for the delivery of these items to you, so we need to include this in the cost of your order. The delivery charge is £2.95. If you pay for your prescriptions and your order total is over £45, we will deliver your medicines for free.

We offer a service where you can order online and collect in most Boots stores free of charge, so look out for details when you place your order online.

Do I need to be in for delivery of my medicines and what happens if I am out?

Professional pharmacy guidance requires that someone over the age of 18 signs for receipt of medicines, so the package will need to be signed for. If you are not in when the delivery is made then a card will be put through your door with details of where to collect them from. If you have more questions, read our FAQs about prescription services

What are the prescription charges and delivery charges?

If you live in England and pay for your NHS prescription, you will pay the standard cost of a prescription in England, currently £8.05, plus £2.95 postage costs.

Because our online pharmacy is based in England, the NHS prescription charges and rules for England will still apply if you live in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. If you live outside of England please read important information about prescription charges and exemptions .

We will send you an email or text message when we have sent your medicine, so you know when to expect it.

I want to go into a Boots pharmacy for my Repeat Prescriptions rather than use the online service

If you would rather go into one of our pharmacies to organise your repeat prescriptions, then you simply need to follow these steps:

Four simple steps

To save time, you can download the form here and complete it at home before bringing it into any Boots pharmacy.

The benefits of the service are the same as the online repeat prescriptions service, except you won't receive the email or text reminders when you use the in-store service.

What if my prescription/medicines change or I need to order a medicine that isn't my usual prescription?

Don't worry. If your medicines change, just let us know and we can manage this for you. If you use the repeat prescription service in store, just let the store that dispenses your medicines know what has changed. If you use the online repeat prescription service, simply order the new prescription online when it is due and do not re-order any unneeded medicine.

What if I'm on holiday or going to be away?

You can either order your medicines in advance, or even arrange for you to collect your medicines from another Boots store that may be more convenient. Just let us know and we'll take care of it.

I'm worried that I might miss my review with my doctor, or that they won't know what is happening with my medicines.

You will still visit your GP for your reviews and your doctor will tell us if you need to see them, so we'll pass this information on to you when you collect your medicines. However, you don't need to keep going to the surgery every time to order and collect your repeat prescription, which hopefully will save you time.

Do I have to collect my medication on the day I put down as my preferred date when I join?

Your medicines will be ready and waiting for collection on the day you have requested. But if you can't collect them on that date, we'll keep them for you. If you need to collect your medicines before that date then if you contact our pharmacy team in your Boots store they may be able to arrange it for you.

*Collect your medicines during opening hours only, participating surgeries only
**Delivery charges may apply.
