What's Happening Now
I wanted to let you know that WEBMD no longer have physicians that respond to posts. We are all lay people who suffer from spine conditions so we will help you as much as we can!
sorry it has taken so long to respond. I thought your post had already been answered.
I'm not sure what type of pain doc you have seen but most of us here like to see a PHYSIATRIST Pain Specialist as they go deeper into pain management control based on patients' needs and treat from where the pains are coming from and not the symptoms.. Most of the pain specialists have a set of spine specialist they work with too so if you need to see one they can help you with that.
the pain specialist will examine you and let you know what your options are. IMHO I believe this is the best course of treatment for you
please keep us posted how you are doing and what you find out. Take care. JoyView Thread
Colonoscopy would be to see where the stricture is if you have one - they can enlarge it at the same time by putting in a balloon at the end of the scope - they enlarge the balloon into the narrowed part of the colon and gently stretch it open.
I have had that done when my small bowels were attached to my sigmoid colon when the rest of the colon was removed. At that conjunction I had a stricture or narrowing of the colon. They did the balloon to open it wider for stool to pass.
There really isn't any need to worry about any of this at this point - they just want to repeat the tests so that you can have an answer as to what is going on. Once they have the answer then they can better treat you - without answers the wrong treatment most likely won't help.
It is better to wait. Hopefully on Monday you will know when, where and how. Until then worrying I am sorry to say isn't going to do you any good. My prayers will be with you. Keep me posted thanks DebbieView Thread
It's a shame that WEBMD's staff deletes the entire post instead of the one pertaining to the ad -
think this is why some members don't return cause their posts were removed when a single post was listed under them relating to an ad of some sort.
WEBMD needs to learn how to delete just that one post and not the entire streamline.View Thread
I have allergic reactions to steroid injections where I will turn beet red and sweat profusely for almost 2 weeks solid. I also seem to have a an open pit in my stomach as I could continuously eat and not be full. I gained 25 pounds in one week (took forever to lose it).
please do contact the doc who did the injections so they are aware. Also contact FDA so they can add to the list of allergic reactions.
please keep us posted how your husband is doing. Take care. JoyView Thread
who diagnosed you as having DDD? What tests were done? What type of doc was this?
you really should see a spine specialist either Orthopedic or Neurosurgeon Spine Specialist as they are about the best types of docs to see for the spine. They will examine you and order tests (MRI, CT Scan and maybe Xray) in order to get the best diagnosis and treatment plans for you.
IMHO i would stop seeing the chiropractor until you have a full diagnosis and have been given a treatment plan thst may include therapy then you can decide on seeing a physical therapist or chiropractor where the spine doc has written a script outlining what type of treatments should be done.
do you remember if you injured your back, even when you were younger? It would help us more if we knew more about your spine problems i.e. when dud it start what happened have you seen any other docs for it.
please let us know. Take care. JoyView Thread
if you see a pain doc discuss with them as they maybe able to do this too.
also if you are not happy with your primary doc because of this then its time to get a new one.
keep us posted what you find out. Take care. JoyView Thread
Not sure what kind of training she could get. She has experience in retail management, secretarial and bookkeeping.
We'll see how all this works out.View Thread
I am so sorry about your accident and your pain.
You might want to consider a spinal orthopedic surgeon or a spinal neurosurgeon. You are right, given your height and age you may do better with a doctor that treats adults. The spinal specialist should order a fresh MRI or CT scan of your spine for an accurate diagnosis. Then you can consider seeing a pain management specialist that is a physiatrist. These doctors offer a wide variety of pain treatments.
I pray you find answers and relief soon.View Thread
The specialist is called a PHYSIATRIST. Here is a link to a definition of this specialist: http://www.spineuniverse.com/treatments/what-physiatrist
We are not supposed to name doctors in any WebMD community, so I can not tell you the physiatrist that I am seeing. I think I can tell you that he is with the NY Spine and Wellness Center. Search for them if you are interested in seeing the doctor I am seeing. He is excellent.View Thread
for many of us we cannot do any type of stretches especially since I have 2 spine fusions with rods I cannot have any decompression or compression plus it would just spike my pain levels so high I'd end up in ER surgery!!
I'm sure some if our members may agree with what I've said and there may be some that might be able to pull it off.
take care. JoyView Thread
I will be praying that you have less pain soon.View Thread
Unfortunately, no doctors reply to posts in this WebMD Back Pain Forum and we are not allowed to diagnose or offer any type of medical advice.
Your best move would be to take your x-ray films with you and see a spinal orthopedic surgeon or spinal neurosurgeon for an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan. You may also be sent for an MRI or spinal CT scan which show more of the whole picture of your spinal problems.
I pray you can get answers and relief soon.View Thread
I have been on the Butrans patch, and it is a good pain releiver. I had to switch to fentanyl because Medicaid would not pay for Butrans.......View Thread
Dave has given you great info, as always. And that he gave you info relating to his wife's WC claim.
I just wanted to reiterate Work's Compensation is to cover the employers A__ and not the employees.
I worked in the insurance industry for 16 yrs and I can tell you it amazed me every time a claim was filed and the employee realized this coverage was to protect the employer and not the employees.
As Dave said to make sure you have an attorney that handles W/C Claims ONLY. this way they spend all their time working on W/C.
You may also try and see if your attorney can get you in to see another Spine Specialist Doc - either Orthopedic Spine Specialist or Neurosurgeon Spine Specialist for a second opinion of you lumbar and your neck.
You indicated you are going to a Pain Center for treatments. What type of doc's are they? Reason I am asking is a good pain doc specialist is a PHYSIATRIST as they go deeper into pain management control than regular pain centers.
Please keep us posted what you find out - Take care - JoyView Thread
Usually when we have members write in that have been hurt on the job we always ask if you have a Worker's Comp Attorney?? If not please get one ASAP and make sure they handle WC Claims only. Worker's Comp Insurance protects the company and NOT the employee (I worked in Insurance for 16 yrs!!!) so it's vital that you have one so they can battle this for you. Plus I don't trust most Worker's Comp Docs as I've seen some that I wouldn't send my worst enemy to!! A Worker's Comp Attorney can get you to see another surgeon for a 2nd opinion.
When you give the WC people your items to review do you give them the film (CD) or just the written report? what type of surgery do they want you to have??
I know all surgeons I have seen over the last few years do not even look at the written reports - they all look at the film because the written report is done by the Radiologist and as one surgeon put it the Radiologist looks at dozens of these daily and it's like looking at a Picasso paintings!! LOL
As I noted above it's imperative you have an attorney to help fight your battles for you. Plus they can also get you extra $$ you may deserve.
Yes hereditary stuff is on my mom's side of the family. I'm 53 and still learning lots of different hereditary problems. I can remember back in 1990 after my youngest daughter was born I had horrible migraines (24/7) and had been on one med after another with no help. And I suffered for an entire year and finally got mad, went off all the meds and astoundingly the bad part of the migraines went away leaving me with Cluster Headaches every day. So a year or so after the migraine stopped my mom tells me they are hereditary!!! I had my first fusion surgery (L5-S1) in 2/08 and it wasn't until 2010 my mom tells me back problems are hereditary!!!!
I can understand your position and not wanting to be on the other side - that's sad as you know what needs to be done etc.
Try to do as much research on the internet on what they say is wrong. You can also let us know what they say - we can help you research etc.
Take care ~~ JoyView Thread
you are asking questions to members that have not been on the support group for almost 4 years.
you can look at some if my responses under the names if BJ1208.
before my first fusion (L5-S1 I had the RFA done twice as the nerves repaired themselves. We (support group) have heard from several members that the RFA worked for them and lasted quite a while.
as an FYI I am fused at L5-S1 (done in 2008) and also L4-5 (done this last Dec).
let us know if we can answer other questions you may have. Take care. JoyView Thread
yes its normal to feel anger and depression too. Some if the wonderful after affects of surgery that's supposed to help.
fusions are mainly to help stabilize the spine and usually have a success rates up to about 50-60%. Helping reduce pains is hopeful but no guarantees.
we don't mind members venting. I do it too when the pains become so great. Weather changes are our best enemies.
I see you are a Veteran - thanks for keeping America safe and to all the Veterans who have protected us.
have you applied for VA benefits? I'm not sure how it work but you should be able to utilize the benefits.
keep us posted how you are doing. JoyView Thread
let us know what you find out and how ur dad us doing. Take care. JoyView Thread
since this post is over 2 yrs ago this member has not been back. But as some members did respond possibly an MRI needs to be done to see what's going on and if anything else may be causing the problem.
keep us posted. JoyView Thread
There is a fluid leaking in his abdominal cavity , surgeon says that they don't know were it is coming from and claims that it is serrouss fluid of some type and also says that pathology doesn't even know what it is. My father has been experiencing much pain and discomfort. Kaisers surgeon went back in to drain it .It filled back up so now they have a drain put in his side. The bag is filling up every 15-20 min. My brother has some medical background and stated that it looked like spinal fluid
so that's when I looked on the internet and came across all these posts. I would like to know if this is life threatening and also is this a normal occurrence from back surgery. The procedure was supposed to be 3-4 hrs and lasted almost 7 hrs. If anyone could give me more information I would appreciate it. thankyouView Thread
I got mine through Walgreen's and they are always more expensive than other pharm. in my opinion.
Some people I know get theirs through mail order and get a 3 pens at a time which saves them money. My ins. plan says I can not get it through mail order cuz my supplier doesn't have a way to ship it refrigerated.
I have been on it a week now with no signs of reactions - except for the minor headaches and a small red patch around the injection site in my thigh, but when I do it the stomach there isn't any red patch go figure.
It is normal to get a red patch - it just shows the medication got into the area.View Thread
