Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark became Patron of WHO/Europe in 2005.

Since then she has been active in raising awareness of public health issues through various activities, including keynote addresses at sessions of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, visits to countries, statements, speeches and articles.

As part of her engagement in WHO/Europe’s work, Her Royal Highness advocates initiatives for maternal and child health, as well as those for health promotion and disease prevention in areas including immunization and antimicrobial resistance.

The Crown Princess serves as patron of several social, health and humanitarian organizations and agencies, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which promotes maternal health and safe motherhood. In September 2012, the Crown Princess was appointed a member of the High-level Task Force for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).

As Patron of WHO/Europe, Crown Princess Mary is a unique and valuable advocate for the health of the 890 million people in the WHO European Region.
