Once again proving that Fast & Furious is the nexus of all action-movie realities, Fast Five enemy and Furious Six frenemy Dwayne Johnson has officially joined the DC Universe.

The wrestler-turned-actor-turned-franchise mercenary tweeted the news himself:

The Politician: Vince Vaughn Could Be on the Upswing in New Comedy

21 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

It looks like Vince Vaughn is willing himself out of a career rut with some of the projects he’s been signing onto recently, which is something I’m pretty happy about.  I’ve always loved his comic timing and have found him to be a relatable, charismatic and funny screen presence more often than not.  But the shine started to come off of him over the past few years as his comedies grew more formulaic (in my opinion this fallow period stretches from Fred Claus up until Delivery Man).  But with a role in Season 2 of True Detective and what sounds like a darker film coming up in Term Life, maybe Vaughn truly is taking back his career á la Matthew McConaughey. The Politician could be another step back in the right direction.  At first glance, it appears possible that this studio project could be another paycheck gig, but »

The Humbling Trailer: The World Is a Stage Featuring Al Pacino, Greta Gerwig, and Charles Grodin

17 minutes ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The first The Humbling trailer for director Barry Levinson’s (Rain Man, Wag the Dog) upcoming comedy has landed online.  Based on the novel of the same name by author Philip Roth, the film stars Al Pacino as a retired stage actor in decline who strikes up an affair with a “flirtatious lesbian” (Greta Gerwig) while staying at a secluded country house in Connecticut.  The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival to rather mixed reviews, and indeed this trailer is a bit of a mixed bag itself.  There are portions of the film that look incredibly funny and the cast is phenomenal, but the romance aspect between Pacino and Gerwig’s characters feels off and a little strange (the “turning a lesbian” storyline again, really?).  There’s no denying the talent of this cast, though, and I still find myself curious to see full film. Watch The Humbling trailer after the jump. »

James Gunn Provides a Look at Stan Lee’s Original Cameo from Guardians Of The Galaxy and Explains Why It was Cut

25 minutes ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Yesterday, we reported that James Gunn had a different plan for Stan Lee’s Guardians of the Galaxy cameo.  For those who have seen the film, you know that Lee pops up fairly early in the film as a guy hitting on a young woman on Xandar.  In an Instagram post, Gunn explains he originally intended to have the scene play as “Rocket looks over and sees Cosmo the dog in one display case, Quill looks over into another display case and is surprised by a tentacle slapping against the glass, and Groot looks over and sees, in another display case, Stan Lee.”  Then Stan Lee would flip off Groot. It’s a cute gag and fits the irreverent tone of the rest of the film, but Gunn’s decision to cut it makes sense. Hit the jump for Gunn’s explanation about why he removed Stan Lee’s original »

Watch: Full Trailer For Barry Levinson's 'The Humbling' Starring Al Pacino & Greta Gerwig

36 minutes ago | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Al Pacino seems to be heading for something of a comeback this year: after years of taking films and roles that seem well below his talents, the actor's been lining up several intriguing prospects: David Gordon Green's "Manglehorn" just premiered at Venice with a Pacino turn that our review called one of his best ever, and intriguing comedy "Imagine" is lined up for 2015. In between, Pacino was also in Venice for "The Humbling," Barry Levinson's adaptation of Phillip Roth's novel, about a Broadway star who romances a much young lesbian (Greta Gerwig). Our reviewer Jessica Kiang was decidedly unimpressed a few days back, but you can get a glimpse of the film for yourself, as a trailer just debuted over at Deadline. The film's clearly a passion project for Pacino, who bought the rights to the project himself, and if nothing else, it should be fun to »

Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight' Backed by Weinsteins, Per Usual

38 minutes ago | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

In a non-shocker, The Weinstein Company announced today that it will handle worldwide distribution for Quentin Tarantino's next film, "The Hateful Eight." Although Tarantino held a live script reading of his Civil War-era western in La in April, the project has been on-again/off-again ever since the script was leaked online made its way to many eyeballs via Gawker.  The director sued the digital media company earlier this year, and it seemed production was out of the cards.  But then at Cannes, Tarantino said he had "calmed down" and was working on a new draft of the screenplay--which he said he might shoot, publish, put on stage or "all three." Then came a poster (even before the film had been shot) and a teaser trailer--shown only in theaters--in front of "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For."  And now the official green light from the Weinsteins.  Principal photography will start in January, »

New Line: 'Shazam' will have 'a tone unto itself' and 'a sense of fun'

Earlier today, Dwayne Johnson tweeted that he would be playing Black Adam in a filmed based on DC’s Shazam. The announcement was surprising for a few reasons. For another thing, most of the recent buzz around the bigscreen DC universe had focused on Justice League characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman.

The Shazam project will be produced by New Line, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. proper, and when New Line president Toby Emmerich gets on the phone to EW, he makes it clear that »

Jason Reitman’s Men, Women & Children Poster Reminds Us That Studio Poster Art Isn’t Entirely Dead

Ahead of the film’s world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival later this week, Paramount Pictures has released the first Men, Women & Children poster and it’s kind of fantastic.  Up in the Air and Juno director Jason Reitman’s new film looks to be an incredibly dark departure for the filmmaker, as it follows the story of a group of high schoolers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, communication, self-image, and their love lives.  Aside from the wonderful folks at Mondo, the world of official movie poster art has been frustratingly dull over the past decade or so.  Thankfully, Reitman understands that the one-sheet can be an extension of the film's creative expression itself, giving us this beautiful and slightly haunting Men, Women & Children poster.  More of this, please.
