Chris Hardwick is a stand-up comedian, chart-topping podcaster, television personality, contributor for Wired magazine, and creative head of the multi-platform media behemoth known as Nerdist Industries.
Chris is the CEO of Nerdist Industries, which has grown to include the Nerdist.com website; a premium YouTube channel (youtube.com/nerdist) with over 850K subscribers; 2.1M Twitter fans; and a podcast network including the flagship Nerdist Podcast that averages 4.8M monthly downloads.
Nerdist also produces content for television including All Star Celebrity Bowling for AMC and In the Name of Science for National Geographic Channel. Further, Nerdist hosts live events around the country such as The Nerdist Podcast Live! and Course of the Force, an annual lightsaber relay in partnership with Lucasfilm LTD and Octagon which leads up to San Diego Comic-Con International.
On top of his Nerdist responsibilities, Chris is the face of AMC’s live after show Talking Dead, which discusses the highly-rated The Walking Dead. His new late-night show on Comedy Central, @Midnight, premiered in October, 2013 and airs nightly after The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Nerdist Industries is headquartered at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood.

I want to start off say that your articles are bitch’n and secondly I am currently an English Major at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, its about 30 minutes from Austin and I really wanted to see your stand-up during SXSW but was unable to. I was wondering what sort of schooling, back alley dealings, and/or demonic seance did you do to ascertain and prepare for your career in journalism and KICK-ASSery?

Oh, thanks. I have always been a little confused about the whole server deal.
You don’t have to physically set gear up. It’s just an option that you select when you’re signing up and they do it on their end. Don’t worry about setting up a server box.

How did you set up the Linux Server? (I may be tech savvy enough to check techmeme every couple hours and keep updated with tech, but I am not quite a guru ;] )

I’m sure that you have a ton of things going on, as I just read your Time Management Wired article, but I wanted to stop by and announce myself as an official number-one fan. That’s right, I know that you’ve got more than one already, so I’m applying for a position on the list. I don’t know if fans are measured by their enthusiasm or knowledge of the people they are fans of, but I am absorbing all that you have made available on the web as time permits. Procrastinating on things that aren’t interesting has to be one of my favorite pastimes!
It’s rare that someone with the wit of a headlining stand-up comedian can affectively apply their humor to nerdy things (especially Genetics, mathematics and relativistic physics), so I enthusiastically applaud you for that. Just randomly in public when I think about it. People often stare, but it’s worth it.
Also, please keep doing what you do. I’m a mechanical engineering student who would love nothing more than to apply his knowledge of the nerdy in the same way that you are doing it every day. Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be very good at that just yet, but I’m learning and (hopefully) improving. Gotta follow your heart, huh?
Sorry for the lengthy comment, I actually cut it down from a 1432 page manuscript. There’s no fun to be had in reading something of that magnitude. Also, come to Colorado sometime soon! I’d be glad to show my support by coming to a show, and I’m certain that a lot of other people would too.

just finished reading the Wired article. you’ll be happy to know that i scheduled myself to read it rather than possibly getting to it whilst on the pooper…or maybe you’re *not* happy to know that. a few other things:
- i *have* seen Wired Science, and no, I’m not 104.
- i didn’t see you in T3, though i was half-paying attention which means i should have seen you in at least one scene.
- some time ago i stumbled across some mp3s of Hard ‘n Phirm. within these is an audience recording of mbar paradise – two chicks ate each other’s box = pair of dykes? oh my. comic genius? close enough. (though out of context i guess it’s more obvious than funny, but those who have heard the song are likely to at least guffaw when remember the song.)
now stop distracting me so i can get back to work!
You need to shove in there ” Voted best tech reviewer by that random kid name Kyle on Nerdist.com”. Honestly you are an amazing tech reviewer with that mix of humor and information. I think I have watched the part where you point and say “tard” in the LG Dare review like fifty times! Not only on ATOS, but with the comment in the Best of CES Awards when you said “someone just threw their salad and stomped down.” You just have the humor I like I guess. Keep it up! Don’t change the humor! You have fans!…or fan!…yeah!

Hot dang. I’m somewhat elated to realize you’re alive and kicking after completely writing you off dead for disappearing from the Finnish TV sets some years ago. After all, the end of Shipmates was indeed one of the most darkest and traumatizing moments of my life (aside from seeing what the drunk Santa Claus did to Rudolph at the back of a men’s bathroom last week with the help of an iPhone playing The Scorpion’s “Rock you like a Hurricane”.) And in fact, losing my daily fix of such politically correct lines as “Oink, oink! Bitch!” made me shed the first tears since learning about how David Hasselhoff was the true reason why the divided Germany united, marking the beginning of the end to the Cold War.
Anyhow. That vile, cynical show (Shipmates, not the one Santa put out) grew to be one of the best and underrated shows the TV has ever put out. After The Wire anyway. Come to think of it, Shipmates was like The Transformers: More than meets the eye. In the midst of all the brainless reality shows (from then and now), yours actually showed brain activity. Thus, if you have any leverage on anyone responsible for Shipmates, push ‘em to release it on DVD. During these dark times, I could show my support, do some good and sell my somewhat toxicated kidneys and use the dirty Euros from them to stimulate the American economy!
But in the end, I just wanted to pay my respect from across the globe to you good, sir and wish you the best of luck with your current and future endeavors. May they cross our frozen airwaves some day.

Just read your Self-Help Dropout article on Wired.com, and I have to admit that for the past 3 weeks I’ve been into a self-help love triangle with both Getting Things Done and The 4-Hour Workweek.
Gotta say that Tim Ferriss opened my eyes to the truth that I DON’T HAVE TO PERSONALLY DO everything on my to-do list to be ultra productive, and that I can be productive without being a 14 hours a day slave. Amen to that!
Now, if I could just oursource ackward social calls and stupid house chores to a doppelganger or clone… MWAHAHAHAHA!!!

I just read your article in the recent issue of Wired and LMAO!! I, too, am a slave to email and identifed too easily with your inability to let it go. BTW, I’m not 104, but I watched every episode of Wired Science (thank you, TiVo). My favorite pieces were the “What’s Inside”, esp. the one with Rainn Wilson. I’m a total nerd and learned somewhere in my 20′s to quit trying to fight it and/or hide it and to just embrace it!
I contribute all advances in the scientific and artistic fields in the last 100 years or so to all the cartoons children watch that feature anthromorphic animals. I myself spent countless hours on such gems as Rocko’s Modern Life and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, though I belive the latter featured monsters that resembled animals, though, weren’t actually animals. Anway, just think of it this way, you might be bettering the would by providing young, influential minds with the creative release they need to get all those juicy brain fluids flowing at a young age, possibly leading to development of some sort of warp drive or maybe a toilet that courtesy flushes itself.I contribute all advances in the scientific and artistic fields in the last 100 years or so to all the cartoons children watch that feature anthropomorphic animals. btw, I noticed you’re in L.A. Stop by the Miracle Mile area (Wilshire, 2 blks west of La Brea) to my little “coworking” office community: http://www.BLANKSPACES.com. People here are way productive and no book required. Something about reporting to an actual office – cafés don’t count! – gets people to be all legit and stuff. I figure it must be some balance of ‘legitmatism’ and freedom, which fits our mantra, “work FOR yourself, not BY yourself.” Your 1st week is on me!
