Serial Killer + Inception = Extracted

25 July 2013 7:41 PM, PDT

Gee, let’s enter the mind of serial killer! Cause, you know, that worked out so well for Jennifer Lopez in “The Cell”. Nir Paniry’s “Extracted”, which hits VOD and selected theaters tomorrow, is working with a tad smaller budget than the Lopez film, or Nolan’s “Inception”, which it also has more than a little resemblance to. Still, it looks pretty interesting if you’re in a mood for a little mind-screw and don’t mind the lack of big-budget Hollywood gloss. A scientist invents a technique to enter people’s memories deep within their subconscious when their mind is at its most vulnerable state. When he is tasked with entering a convicted criminal’s mind to see whether he committed murder, he is faced with his most dangerous and risky memory extraction ever. Starring Sasha Roiz, Jenny Mollen, and Dominic Bogart. Get extracted this July 26th, 2013. »

It’s definitely worth your time, because this thing is Intense. Academy Award® winners Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side,” “The Proposal”) and George Clooney (“Up in the Air,” “Syriana”) star in “Gravity,” a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. The film was directed by Oscar® nominee Alfonso Cuarón (“Children of Men”). Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. Violent Final Trailer for Joon-ho Bong’s Snowpiercer

25 July 2013 8:30 AM, PDT

Short but sweet and ax-chopping goodness. Check out the final trailer for Joon-ho Bong’s “Snowpiercer”, which is basically a 45-second clip of Chris Evans’ Curtis character fighting his way through the train. I don’t know who those guys in ski masks are, but I’m guessing they’re not the good guys. No one stops Captain America, boys, no one! (Especially when he has an ax.) Set in a future where a failed experiment to stop global warming creates an ice age that kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train, but a revolution brews. Starring Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Octavia Spencer, Ed Harris, John Hurt, Kang-ho Song and Tilda Swinton. Piercing later this year. »

24 July 2013 9:42 AM, PDT

Sandra Bullock needs help, Houston. What, another trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s “Gravity”? So soon? Yup, here’s another groovy trailer for “Gravity”. It’s just as cool as the last trailer. Which is to say, holy crap, look at that camerawork! Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium Opens Up in a New Featurette and Clip

24 July 2013 8:46 AM, PDT

Matt Damon vs. robots. I got money on Matt Damon. Check out a new featurette focusing on the tech of “Elysium” and a clip from the Neill Blomkamp movie. I just hope this movie isn’t nearly as “hammer to the face” about its message as the trailers make it appear. I get it, it’s got a message, but don’t let that stop you from giving me cool sci-fi action, guys. In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy “Coordinators,” people who can afford bio-genetical engineering, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, built by the Armadyne Corporation, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes, a hard government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, »

Jeff Renfroe’s The Colony Sets VOD and Theatrical Dates

23 July 2013 10:43 AM, PDT

Superman’s new pal Perry White saves us from cannibals. Or at least he tries to, in Jeff Renfroe’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie “The Colony”. Which is the second snowed-in this year, counting Joon-ho Bong’s “Snowpiercer”. Except I don’t think “Snowpiercer” has cannibals, which is a crying shame. Can you imagine cannibals on that train? Awesome! Someone make a movie, stat! Anyhoo. Image Entertainment has announced that Renfroe’s “The Colony” will debut on Ultra-vod on August 22, 2013 and in-theaters on September 20, 2013 in Los Angeles, New York and major U.S. markets. The Colony opens as an endless winter engulfs Earth. Humans struggle to survive in remote underground outposts. When Colony seven receives a distress call from a nearby settlement, Sam (Zegers) and Briggs (Fishburne) race through the snow on a dangerous rescue mission. What they find at the desolate base could mean mankind’s salvation—or its total annihilation. »

New Image of an Older, Grayer Caesar in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

23 July 2013 10:42 AM, PDT

He’s older, sure, but he could probably still kick your butt. Take a look at Caesar from Matt Reeves’ “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”, the sequel to 2011′s surprise hit “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”. I knew that first movie was going to be a moderate hit, but I was really surprised it was That big of a hit. I guess moviegoers went, ahem, ape for it. Heh. Moving on… A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species. “Dawn” stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo, »

Find Out How the World Ended in This Extended Animated Clip for Snowpiercer

23 July 2013 10:07 AM, PDT

It’s all the fault of global warming, as it turns out. Check out a 4-minute-plus extended animated clip from Bong Ho-Jong’s “Snowpiercer” that shows us how the world came to an end. Basically, it’s global warming’s fault. And our fault for not stopping global warming. Or something. Bottom line: the planet frozen. There. You happy now? The film is set in a future where a runaway experiment to stop global warming has caused an ice age that killed nearly all life on the planet. The only survivors are the inhabitants of the ‘Snowpiercer’, a massive train that travels around the planet and is powered by a perpetual-motion engine. Over time a class system evolves on the train, with the elites inhabiting the front of the train and poor inhabiting the back of the train. Tired of their poor living conditions, the riders in the revolt, attempting »

Syfy Channel Greenlights 12 Monkeys TV Series

22 July 2013 12:03 PM, PDT

Rise of the planet of the monkeys! Or, rise of the planet of the 12 monkeys, anyway, because it looks like the Syfy Channel is getting into the post-apocalyptic business with a TV series based on the 1995 movie “12 Monkeys”, directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt, and Madeleine Stowe. The original movie, based on the French short “La Jetee”, goes something like this: In the year 2035, convict James Cole volunteers reluctantly to be sent back in time by scientists to discover the origin of a deadly virus that wiped out nearly all of the earth’s population decades earlier. But when Cole is sent mistakenly to 1990 instead of 1996, he’s arrested and locked up in a mental hospital, where he meets a psychiatrist and the son (Brad Pitt) of a famous virus expert. No word on what the TV series will be about, but I suspect it’ll »

Welcome Back to the Arena in New Hunger Games: Catching Fire Trailer

22 July 2013 10:19 AM, PDT

Hope you kids took your swimming lessons! Check out the new, full trailer for Francis Lawrence’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, which is a much better trailer than the first teaser they released a while back. This one actually looks interesting, with Peeta and Katniss back int he Arena for what is called the Quarter Quell. I don’t know what a Quell is, but it looks pretty damn dangerous! The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter »
