Cee Lo Green Is Really Rapey, And Stupid. Don’t Forget Stupid.

4 September 2014 11:01 AM, PDT

If you aren’t completely up to speed on all things Cee Lo Green, the former The Voice judge recently entered a “special” no contest plea to a felony charge of giving a woman Ecstacy, which I don’t think is the exact charge, but whatever. The specialness of the plea is that it cannot be used against him in a civil trial. He was apparently sentenced to three years probation and some community service.

The reason the story became more interesting is because of the Tweets he… Tweeted shortly after entering the plea.

Remember, as the story goes (and with lots of “allegedly” sprinkled around), a woman woke up in bed with Cee Lo, and had no memory of the night before. All the details are obviously not going to be public knowledge, but we have to assume there is some reason to suspect that Ecstacy was actually found in the woman’s blood, »

Hector And The Search For Happiness Images

4 September 2014 7:00 AM, PDT

Hector and the Search for Happiness, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, is the kind of adaptation that could turn into a new favorite for millions, or completely ruin the book for everyone, without a lot of room to fall anywhere in-between. There are tone requirements, a wide range of emotion, and supporting characters that need to be worked in to things just so.

The big questions that creates in this case revolve around director Peter Chelsom, and Simon Pegg. I’m generally fan of Pegg, but can he go everywhere this film will need him to, and go to all of those places effectively? I’m not sure. Chelsom is a different case, and isn’t a name that most people are going to be able to easily associate with his body of work as a director. The Mighty is an under-appreciated gem, and Serendipity is »

Outlander Review – TV – Starz

3 September 2014 7:07 PM, PDT

Outlander Review

Starz is continuing with its unique and engaging string of original series with Outlander. Based on the series of books by Diana Gabaldon, the show starts off with a major uphill battle ahead as it must face off with legions of adoring fans.

It’s the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a married combat nurse from 1945. On her honeymoon with Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), Claire pokes her nose into druidic dancing and magical stones, and suddenly finds herself in 1743. Naturally, the first person she sees is Black Jack Randall (also Tobias Menzies), a British soldier who doesn’t have pleasant intentions toward her, or any of the Scotsmen in the area. Rescued from Randall’s clutches, she is taken to a group of Scottish fighters, and meets Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). Now she has to find a way to survive, and figure out what to do with her growing feelings for Jamie. »

Craig Ferguson Returns To Hot In Cleveland Tonight – Previews

3 September 2014 11:04 AM, PDT

Hot in Cleveland’s longevity isn’t just impressive because it continues to draw solid ratings, but also because the show seems to have no fear, and that doesn’t historically work out this well. From live shows, to an incredible list of guest actors that often spin the plot arc toward the bizarre, people just can’t get enough.

Tonight, Craig Ferguson returns to the show, and you won’t believe what that entails.

Catch a couple of preview clips below, and be sure you don’t miss this one.

Just when Joy (Jane Leeves) is happy in her relationship with Mitch (Tim Daly), Simon (Craig Ferguson) sneaks back into her life. Meanwhile, Elka (Betty White) gets carried away with some new-found power.

First Look Image Allison Williams’ Peter Pan Live – NBC

3 September 2014 9:14 AM, PDT

NBC is taking another shot at the live musical with Peter Pan Live, and after a somewhat mixed reaction to the announcement that Allison Williams (Girls) will be playing Peter, we finally have a look at what we’re going to get.

It’s been a strange circuit of reactions to the show itself, and Williams’ casting, and critic and public response has covered just about every possible base. Some didn’t love the idea when it was The Sound of Music Live, but you can’t really argue with numbers, while others wonder if we really need to continue with female Pans. On the other side of things, a lot of people loved the first effort, think the production has all the components necessary to deliver something brilliant, and think Williams is a great choice.

Wherever you fall on that spectrum, at least you’ve got something to look at when mulling things over. »

Sofia The First: Holiday In Enchancia DVD Hitting November 4th

3 September 2014 6:28 AM, PDT

Children’s shows come and go, and often won’t go for far too long, but once in a while we get one that is actually rather fantastic, and Sofia the First is one that sets itself apart from the norm.

Not only is the show a lot of fun, but it explores some interesting themes and concepts in impressive ways. It also has the kind of voice cast that, despite the understanding that people are getting paid, makes you an even bigger fan of people you already thought were pretty cool. When Wayne Brady, Eric Stonestreet, Tim Gunn, and Ariel Winter show up to be part of a children’s show, you have to give them credit.

Well, a new DVD release is coming your way, and it includes the holiday episode plus four additional episodes (some of the best ones), and an ornament.

Ru? Instant Reaction Review Podcast Ep. 109 – The Fault In Our Stars Review

2 September 2014 5:59 PM, PDT

It was a busy week, and we covered The Fault in Our Stars, which probably needed no introduction, the Critics Choice Television Awards, and a few indie gems that had limited releases – I Am I, We Are The Best!, and Obvious Child. If nothing else, you owe it to yourself to get some exposure to those indie films.

The Fault in Our Stars surprised us more than any film in at least a year, earning not only high marks, but marks far higher than we would have guessed. Shailene Woodley continues to surprise us, and though I did have a few problems with certain elements of the screenplay, the boldly honest and realistic storytelling blew us away. We went in thinking we were probably going to get something like a supercharged Lifetime movie, and instead we had so much fun with the characters that we left shaking our heads.

Snowpiercer The Oddest, Most Awesome Sci-Fi Release In Decades Hits Oct. 21

2 September 2014 3:56 PM, PDT

Snowpiercer is coming to Blu-Ray and DVD on October 21st, and if there is one movie to make sure is on your home video release radar, this is it. You’ve probably heard quite a bit about this one, and it’s one of the oddest and, if the critical consensus can be believed, most awesome sci-fi releases in quite a while.

Odd, because it pushes the limits of indie films, and their theatrical releases and marketing efforts. Though you’ve likely heard of the film, it wouldn’t have taken that much effort to avoid doing so, and you may not have even had much opportunity to catch it in theaters. Even with the recent upswing in recognizable names in films that are indie, indie-eque, microbudget, or whatever else, a tense sci-fi effort with Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Ed Harris, and more still seems like it ought »

Starting tonight, History is bringing you the story of Houdini’s life. Starring Adrien Brody, the 2-night special covers a wide variety of the components that made up the multi-faceted man, and it’s something you don’t want to miss.

In the spirit of the History Channel and, you know, history, they’ve released some very cool posters which put Adrien Brody into some of the classic promotional posters used to promote Houdini himself. You probably recognize at least one of these, and the changes are wonderfully subtle.

Give them a look, and be sure to tune in.

Houdini, a new two-night scripted miniseries airing on September 1 and 2 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on History®, is the story of a man who can defy death, but who really was the man behind the escapes? If The Hunger Games franchise has decided on one thing, it’s to bombard the world with promotional material far beyond the efforts of just about anything in recent memory, and in case you haven’t had enough character posters, there is a new set of Rebel Warrior Posters. It’s all your favorite gun-toting warriors, and they are conveniently positioned in front of the Mockingjay emblem.

I find it hard to believe that you need any more enticement to check this one out, but you might as well have a look at The Hunger Games in warrior garb with a seriously black motif.

Also, be sure to download the Our Leader The Mockingjay app to your iOS or Android device. This app represents the underground communications network for District 13, and gives fans the ability to create and interact with ‘digital graffiti marks’ created in augmented reality space. http://OurLeaderTheMockingjay. »

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Review

1 September 2014 9:46 AM, PDT

Sin City: A Dame To Kill For Review

You can’t deny the artistic abilities found in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, but it looks like Frank Miller may have lost his storytelling abilities to his ego. There’s something to the idea of fusing a film from the largely unconnected stories that might exist as “issues” of a graphic novel, but this isn’t how you make such a theory work.

The film kicks off with Marv (Mickey Rourke) walking us through an encounter that simply serves as an explanation of who he is, and puts him into the world so that we recognize him when he shows up later. This takes us to Dwight (Josh Brolin), and Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who will each have their turns being the focus of stories that don’t connect to each other.

Dwight has his world disrupted when Ava (Eva Green), an ex, »
