Certificate PG-13 Thriller

Terri is a devoted wife and mother of two, living an ideal suburban life in Atlanta when Colin, a charming but dangerous escaped convict, shows up at her door claiming car trouble. Terri offers her phone to help him but soon learns that no good deed goes unpunished as she finds herself fighting for survival when he invades her home and terrorizes her family.

The Buzz: Your standard Screen Gems thriller can either result in Beyonce's best movie or one of Neil LaBute's worst. Aside from the always-welcome presence of Idris Elba, the upshot here is having Sam Miller on board as director - he handled the entire second second of Elba's top-notch BBC show, "Luther."

Certificate PG   -   Drama | Family

The team of people who saved Winter's life reassemble in the wake of her surrogate mother's passing in order to find her a companion so she can remain at the Clearwater Marine Hospital.

The Buzz: The addition of real-life Soul Surfer Bethany Hamilton ups the inspirational true-story factor to uncharted territory as the story of Winter continues. The overall timing here - kids have settled back into school routines, and there have been precious few new releases recently - makes us feel confident about a $20 million opening weekend for the sequel.

Certificate R   -   Crime | Drama

Bob Saginowski finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood's past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living - no matter the cost.

The Buzz: Michael Roskam generated some headlines here in the U.S. when Bullhead, the film he wrote and directed, wound up on the shortlist for the Best Foreign Language Oscar.

I thought the film's success was entirely due to Matthias Schoenaerts's performance, and this is why I'm interested in Roskam's English-language debut; the idea of Tom Hardy dominating a screenplay by Dennis Lahane (the writer of Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone adapted his own novel here) -- only some unpreventable act of the movie gods could foil such a plot.

This being James Gandolfini's last-ever role ... I still can't even talk about it.

Certificate R   -   Drama

Metascore: 75/100 (7 reviews)
Having both coincidentally cheated death on the same day, estranged twins reunite with the possibility of mending their relationship.
Director:

The Buzz: One of the great things about this "SNL" reunion is that Bill Hader's movie career is in ascension. Another plus: by next year people might stop instantly associating Kristen Wiig with Bridesmaids. Their current project has one of the more effective trailers of the year - for us it brings to mind the idea of John Hughes characters in adulthood.

  -   Drama

Metascore: 57/100 (5 reviews)
One couple's story as they try to reclaim the life and love they once knew and pick up the pieces of a past that may be too far gone.
Director:

The Buzz: We will see if the original two-part version of the film -- one shot from the perspective of Jessica Chastain's character, the other from James McAvoy's -- will truly be released in theaters on next month; that's the plan for now, but you have to imagine that such decisions will be made after the opening-weekend performance of Ned Benson's bold feature-film debut, which marks Jessica Chastain's return to the spotlight after a nearly celebrity-free year. (She's been insanely busy making movies and wisely ducking the It-Woman media frenzy that followed her every move within the last 18 to 20 months.

Certificate PG-13 Drama | Mystery | Sci-Fi

Approaching collapse, the nation's economy is quickly eroding. As crime and fear take over the countryside, the government continues to exert its brutal force against the nation's most productive who are mysteriously vanishing - leaving behind a wake of despair. The Buzz: There was a time when we didn't expect this third and final installment of the Atlas Shrugged trilogy to be made; there was also a brief period where it was being developed as a musical by producer John Aglialoro, who has spent a fraction of his personal fortune to see his vision to its end. Following its predecessors, an entire new cast has been assembled for the finale, including cameos from conservative all-stars Ron Paul, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and others.

  -   Drama | Fantasy | Romance

In an airport hotel on the outskirts of Paris, a Silicon Valley engineer abruptly chucks his job, breaks things off with his wife, and holes up in his room. Soon, fate draws him and a young French maid together.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: All reviews I've read of Pascale Ferran's Cannes-approved puzzler acknowledge a twist that connects his two main characters: a Silicon Valley dropout and the maid who cleans up his Parisian hotel. My main hopes are that the film looks beautiful and is narratively unconcerned with a proper conclusion.

  -   Comedy

Fed up with being censored in their post-Trailer Park Boys lives, the out of work stars/world-renowned 'swearists', Mike Smith, Robb Wells and John Paul Tremblay decide to start their own uncensored network on the internet.
Director:

The Buzz: A new season of "Trailer Park Boys" is coming next year, but for now the boys have the movie spin-off of their real-life website to tide over devoted Canadian and US audiences.

Certificate PG-13   -   Comedy | Drama

An American inherits an apartment in Paris that comes with an unexpected resident.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: Sure, the trailer lays out the entire story in under three minutes, but I'll take every available offer to watch Maggie Smith roll out witticisms and finely tuned insults and to anyone within earshot. Kevin Kline playing a bumbling American who finds his footing in Paris is fine casting as well. I usually prefer to see Kristin Scott Thomas in a more complicated role, but she completes a cast that should reunite for any grand stage production.

Certificate PG-13   -   Documentary | Drama | Thriller

The son of a founding leader in the Palestinian organization, Hamas, becomes a spy for the Israelis.
Director:

The Buzz: Stylistically, this documentary brings The Imposter to mind; thematically it appears to be in a category to itself as a intensely personal look behind the front lines of Palestinian/Israeli conflicts.

The lives and thoughts of children from all around the world. It weaves together deeply personal and at times hilarious portraits of what it means to stand on the cusp between childhood and adolescence.

The Buzz: Though this documentary began making festival rounds a few years ago, its steady word of mouth has resulted in a theatrical release from indie specialists International Film Circuit and "theatrical on demand" innovators Gathr Films (the latter company first got on the map with the successful release of Girl Rising). What has hooked me is the fact that one of the film's subjects is interacting with foreigners for the first time as she's interviewed.

Certificate R   -   Horror

A newlywed couple finds their lake-country honeymoon descend into chaos after Paul finds Bea wandering and disoriented in the middle of their first night.
Director:
Watch Trailer

The Buzz: I'm quite into seeing more from the talented Rose Leslie and Harry Treadaway - we know Ms. Leslie best as Ygritte from "Game of Thrones" and her run on "Downton Abbey;" Treadaway is in ascent from "Penny Dreadful" and was excellent in Fish Tank. Most of the main genre sites (Twitch, FEARnet, Den of Geek, etc.) are in agreement: writer-director Leigh Janiak has created her own unique beast with his first film.

The Buzz: With the winter release date and hush-hush approach to making the film, Twentieth Century Fox seems to be following the blueprint that turned Chronicle (2012) into a breakout hit. More news as it becomes available on this adaptation of James Dashner's novel.

The Buzz: Credit Antoine Fuqua for turning Olympus Has Fallen (2013) into a domestic smash and, in a rare case of other countries embracing rah-rah Americanism, a surprising worldwide success. And now the marketing campaign has more oomph for the already-exciting reunion of Training Day (2001)'s director and star.
