The Buzz: Back in the mid-2000s, Sin City and 300 exposed the world of non-superhero comics to sunlight and became so successful that people like David Fincher looked to turn material such as Charles Burns's Black Hole into movies. Outsiders including Preacher, Sandman , Y: The Last Man were also candidates ... A decade later, it's a different landscape - one clearly dominated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Comics' tentative first steps into franchise-dom. How does Sin City's sequel fit into the frame? I'm not quite sure. The original didn't have the worldwide reach that 300 achieved, but it did earn just shy of $75 million in the U.S. (and $85 million overseas) but not only was that a different time - it was a different time of year (an early-summer release vs. late in the season here). I just don't see Marv, Nancy, and the others carving out the same territory, and it's always hard to gauge the behavior of a cult audience when viewing options abound. Looked what happened with Kick-Ass 2 - maybe the best direct comparison.

Certificate PG   -   Drama | Sport

Metascore: 41/100 (24 reviews)
The journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur, who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport.

The Buzz: It's getting easy to forget that Alexander Ludwig's leading-man status began inauspiciously with The Seeker: The Dark Is Rising. Here, the young actor diversifies his appeal with a true-life sports drama from the director of Coach Carter.

Certificate PG-13   -   Drama

Metascore: 47/100 (32 reviews)
Life changes in an instant for young Mia Hall after a car accident puts her in a coma. During an out-of-body experience, she must decide whether to wake up and live a life far different than she had imagined.

The Buzz: Acknowledging this movie's inescapable comparisons to The Fault in Our Stars, I can't help but think the story's insular nature and straight-drama feel will keep audiences at bay. That's quite a talented cast, no matter how the film plays or its opening weekend shakes out.

Certificate R   -   Drama

Metascore: 84/100 (25 reviews)
After Ben and George get married, George is fired from his teaching post, forcing them to stay with friends separately while they sell their place and look for cheaper housing -- a situation that weighs heavily on all involved.

The Buzz: Married to Alfred Molina? Easy. A dream. May Ira Sachs continue to be a source of twitchy, queer, warts-and-all filmmaking for years to come. His latest will play better with art-house audiences than its predecessor - the difficult and worthwhile Leave the Lights On.

A look at the many roles played by eclectic 77-year-old actor/activist George Takei, whose wit, humor and grace have helped him to become an internationally beloved figure and Internet phenomenon with 7-million Facebook fans and counting.

The Buzz: The actor and activist who is as web saavy as your above-average Millennial is a prime and deserving documentary candidate; the filmmaker trick is - how to make a work as engaging as Takei is on a daily.
