The Institute of Science is a new major research arm of Universiti Teknologi MARA, set up with the aim of enhancing and strengthening the Science and Technology agenda of the university. The research programmes at the Institute concentrates on five well established areas, namely NanoScience and Nanotechnology, Advance Materials, Synthesis and Chemical Biology, Nanomaterials and Research and Innovation in Sustainable Energy. The interdisciplinary nature of its programme reflects the role of science plays in facilitating developments in other spheres of human acitivity, as well as in forecasting, understanding and measuring the impact of such developments. The research programmes are aimed at making important contributions to national and international developments in both single discipline and interdisciplinary science and technology.
The Institute of Science has 11 research laboratories drawn together a research team from diverse scientific backgrounds such as Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Engineering. By facilitating the interaction of scientist from different skills and viewpoints, the Institute allows them to collaboratively apply their research efforts to the resolution of important scientific problems.
Through extensive interaction, the activities of these centres generate a research continuum, in which breakthroughs in chemical, physical and biological sciences can be applied to the development of innovative technologies.
