Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) was established as early as in 1956, consists of 27 faculties. Several key faculties at UiTM main campus offer programs related to forensics and are able to be combined under one roof for the purpose of setting up a center of excellence in forensics, similar to some other centers of excellence that have been developed under the auspices of UiTM. Among the faculties involved are the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Applied Science, Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Accountancy and Faculty of Engineering. The ability of academic staff from these faculties in academia and research is the factor that helps to stimulate the setting up of the Institute of Forensic Science. With the establishment of the institute, it is seen that this institute has the potential to raise the image and standard of UiTM as the academic and research based university.
